¡Suerte! Movie Apple’s New Film Shot with iPhone 15 Pro Max

Everything is ready at Damián, one of the hotspots of the moment in East Los Angeles, for the premiere of ¡Suerte! the latest Apple film directed by the duo of directors Pasqual Gutiérrez and RJ Sánchez —better known as Cliqua— and filmed with iPhone 15 Pro Max. From the moment we enter the place, everything makes us feel like we are at home, in Mexico: the door is decorated with elements of the traditional lottery game, but adapted to the new times, to the GenZ; and once inside, cumbias, ranchers and other Mexican music songs can be heard at full volume. We cannot deny that, although we are thousands of kilometers away from Mexico, for several years now different elements of the national idiosyncrasy have permeated the culture of Los Angeles thanks to all the compatriots who have found here the possibility of a new beginning. And it is precisely this longing and nostalgia for Mexican roots that is one of the central elements of ¡Suerte!, the second film presented by Apple under this format, following the successful release of El Huracán Ramírez vs La Piñata Enchilada at the end of 2023.

What is ¡Suerte! Movie About?

Starring Iván Cornejo, one of the hottest singer-songwriters in the United States, the 13-minute short film takes us on a journey through the life of a musician who, lacking inspiration and abandoned by his muses, decides to embark on a journey into his past and his roots to see if he can find that “source” that will allow him to continue composing his songs. In the purest style of Lewis Carroll and his Alice in Wonderland, on this journey “the musician” will be helped by different characters from the Mexican lottery, one of the most deep-rooted and traditional games in national culture. Thus, with the help of “the fish” and “the frog” —Edén Muñoz— and “the mermaid,” our protagonist must dig inside himself to unlock “the heart” and thus be able to continue composing.

The adventure will not be so simple, as he will have to face “death” and “the little devil,” played by the great actor Luis Felipe Tovar. It is worth highlighting the great production values of this short film, which will immerse you in the story from the very first moments. In addition, as it is a plot about a musician, this element also receives special attention, and who is better than Camilo Lara to be in charge of the original music for the project?

How Was ¡Suerte! Recorded?

Thanks to all the technology that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has, directors Pasqual Gutiérrez and RJ Sánchez, as well as the director of photography, Xiaolong Liu, were able to unleash their creativity for this project. To achieve this result, the Cliqua duo made use of the entire technological battalion that the latest link in the iPhone boasts: they resorted to functions such as Cinema Mode, 5X optical zoom, and the possibility of recording in low-light conditions, to bring to life a project that, at least in the script, seemed demanding.

The final result is a short film full of fantasy, good music, nostalgia, and Mexican elements that will make you have a good time and will surely take you back to your childhood —especially if you are over 30 years old—. At least that was the case for the entire audience that gathered at Damián to see this project before anyone else. Personalities such as Cristina Rodlo, Xolo Maridueña, and Cristo Fernández were among the attendees who applauded the film.
