Stranger Things 4: Explained The Connection Between Vecna And Mind Flyer In The Netflix Series
Stranger Things 4: There is evidence that Vecna has been on Stranger Things since season 1, but this wasn’t the only secret this powerful character had. Since the first volume of the fourth season of Stranger Things fans have already theorized about a connection between the Mind Flayer and Vecna, believing that the latter was a kind of general for the gigantic monster. While the new episodes of the Netflix series confirmed that there is a link between these creatures, it is more important than viewers thought. We explain all the details below. But before we start, keep in mind that you could find spoilers for the fate of some characters and the plot of Netflix’s Stranger Things 4 Vol 2.
Stranger Things 4: The Connection between Vecna and The Mind Flayer
In the first season of Stranger Things, the Demogorgon surprised the Hawkins boys with its ferocity, but it was nothing compared to the Mind Flayer, a colossal-sized creature that endangered not only the lives of the protagonists but the entire town. When Vecna appeared, Dustin accepted that he was a very powerful enemy, but also claimed that he could be a “five-star general” of the Mind Flayer, as a kind of second-in-command in the hierarchy of the Upside Down. He couldn’t be more wrong.
The second half of the new season of Stranger Things revealed that Vecna has not been following the Mind Flayer’s orders, quite the opposite. Vecna, also known as 001, created the Mind Flayer when he arrived in the Upside Down and identified the Mind Flayer’s hive-mind particles as the missing piece in his plan to gain power. Vecna doesn’t kill people for the hell of it, as every time she kills someone, she “consumes” them, giving her more strength. Thanks to his powers, Henry Creel, or 001 managed to control the Mind Flayer from the Upside Down.
While Henry already had great abilities before he came to the Upside Down, when he tapped into the hive mind that made the Mind Flayer possible, his strength was enhanced into the bloodthirsty predator that Vecna is. The Mind Flayer is in the form of a giant spider due to Henry’s fascination with such creatures. Since he was a child he already had in mind the design that years later the Upside Down monster would have, so when he got the necessary powers, he simply made his vision come true.
Stranger Things 4: Why Vecna Used The Mind Flayer in Seasons 2 and 3
Both the Demogorgon and the Mind Flayer were means to an end, which was to occupy Hawkins, but both were stopped. Eleven killed the Demogorgon and closed the door to the Mind Flayer, but before that Vecna was able to make her creation bite the girl, absorbing some of her power. That event caused the protagonist to lose her powers at the end of the third season.
Once Vecna acquired a part of Eleven’s powers, she was able to access people’s minds and kill them from the Upside Down, as well as being able to open new doors through which she manages to get other Demogorgon into the real world. The funny thing is that Will Byers still has a connection with Vecna, something that the monster himself seems to be unaware of and that could be of great importance in the future of the Netflix series.
