Squid Game: This Is How The Game Creator’s Plan Unfolded The Night Guerrilla Warfare
The Vote The Tug of War The Squid Game Archives The Game of Marbles
The final narrative twist of Squid Game surprised everyone on the Netflix show. A surprise that is difficult to understand well in advance but that in retrospect, thinking carefully about the actions of that key character, makes sense. The first sensation could lead you to think that he has relied on chance or luck but it is not what it seems. Here then in this article the explanation of the plan of that key character who surprised everyone in the finale of the South Korean series.
If you are reading this it means that you have seen all 9 episodes of Squid Game and you have discovered that the old player number 001 is still alive at the end. In addition to this it is revealed that it was he who gave life to the deadly games of Squid Game and that he decided to participate in them for fun. But how could he be sure he wasn’t going to die in one of the games?
In short, the plan of the old man – whose name is Oh Il-nam – might seem full of holes but in reality he has come up with everything to perfection. So here are all the clues and answers to the questions concerning the plot twist linked to player number 001.
001 Is The Only One Having Fun
At the beginning of the game “One, two, three, star!” players realize that elimination from Squid Games is about dying. When everyone panics and the game resumes, player number 001 is the only one who enjoys playing. The viewer at home is led to think that the elderly person has not understood anything about the situation because of the brain tumor or because of a form of senile dementia. But in fact Oh Il-nam – as he will say in episode 9 – is really enjoying himself!
The Vote
Episode 2 contains an important node in the old man’s plan. After having seen the ending, it is clear why the vote desired by the competitors for the suspension of the games took place from the last number to the first. In case of a tie – as in fact happens – player 001 would have to decide whether or not to continue the games.
In the end, contrary to what might have been expected, Oh Il-nam chose to stop the games. This decision can be read as the intention to send home all those who would have played against their will (therefore without a spirit of play). It is good to remember that the elderly know very well that the games will start again and whoever wants to can return.
The Night Guerrilla Warfare
In episode 4, the organization purposely pushes players to kill each other. When the lights go out inside the dormitory the old man disappears, in fact Seong Gi-hun when he looks for him cannot find him. It is reasonable to think that Oh Il-nam was taken out of the dormitory by the “red guards” and that he himself returned to stop the brawl. When he reappears, Player 001 is positioned high up on a bed as he invites everyone to stop. When Front Man sees it on the screen, he realizes that it is the signal to put an end to the deadly quarrel between players.\
The Tug of War
When competitors have to play tug of war Oh Il-nam knows exactly what needs to be done to win the game. His tug-of-war technique is impeccable and despite being in a team of physically weak people he still manages to win. This is undoubtedly the most dangerous game in which the elder finds himself playing. If something had gone wrong, however, it must be considered that the organization would certainly have saved Oh Il-nam in some way.
The Squid Game Archives
A detail that perhaps no one has noticed is that when the policeman opens the folder of the archives relating to the current edition (that of 2020) the first card to appear is that of player number 002 and not that of player 001:
The Game of Marbles
Episode 6 is the key one regarding Oh Il-nam’s plan. The fourth game involves each player choosing another person to pair with. Contrary to what everyone thought, however, the two companions would compete against and not together.
At this point Oh Il-nam’s plan was for him to leave the scene, as the fifth game would have involved jumping dangerously on a glass bridge before the final to play the squid game, where a frail elderly like him would lose. too easily. So at this point Oh Il-nam had to get out of the games without being seen by others. His plan was to play the game of marbles in pairs with someone and to go out as it later happened or pretending to be shot by a guard.
The certainty of playing in pairs was given by the fact that the participants in the games were even in number or 40. But then, when the doctor’s cheating is discovered, the participants become 39. At this moment the elderly person is aware of the fact that – given his age and his not being physically handsome – no one should choose him as a partner, so he sits in a corner waiting for everyone to leave the room. If Il-nam had not shown up after the game of marbles, everyone would have thought that he had been eliminated from the game.
But when – surprisingly – at the end Seong Gi-hun (number 456) chooses Oh Il-nam to play together, the elder’s plan goes back to its first version, that is the one in which he will lose to the marbles and will pretend to be killed by a guard.
During the match Oh Il-nam makes Seong Gi-hun realize that he has memory loss and that he is not paying attention to the game. This causes the 456 player to cheat (albeit reluctantly) in order to save his life. Then, when player 001 is left with only one ball, he begins to waste time in order to find the right place to be eliminated and not be seen alive by the other players.
When the two say goodbye, the old man tells Seong Gi-Hun that everything will be fine and that thanks to him he was able to have fun until the end, and he also reveals his name to him. Episode 9 finally shows – with a flashback – the moment when the elderly creator of the games decided to play instead of watching. This means that it was the first time he actively participated in Squid Games.
