Spider-Man Noir: Will Become a Live-Action Series Produced By Amazon
Amazon is working on a live-action Spider-Man Noir series, the comics debuting in 2009 as part of the Marvel Noir Universe. This version of the iconic superhero lives in Depression-era New York City. When he is bitten by a spider hidden inside a stolen artifact, he begins to have visions of a spider god granting him superpowers. Spider-Man Noir has already appeared on the small screen in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, voiced by Milo Ventimiglia, and again in Spider-Man – Into the Spider-Verse voiced by Nicolas Cage. The show produced by Amazon will be the first live-action version dedicated to the adventures of the character. The news comes exclusively from Variety, which reports that the currently untitled series will follow “a grizzled old superhero in 1930s New York“.
Amazon Is Working on a Live-Action Spider-Man Noir Series
Reporting an internal source, Variety specifies that the live-action series dedicated to Spider-Man Noir will be set in its own universe and that the main character will not be Peter Parker. To sign the script there is Oren Uziel, engaged in the development of the series and in the role of executive producer together with Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Given the great popularity of comics, this Spider-Man Noir already has the traits of an interesting project that has all the potential to become a success for Sony and Amazon. Even considering Peter Parker’s absence.
The reason for this absence may lie in the complex nature of the deals between Sony and Marvel Studios related to Spider-Man. Screen Rant speculates that Marvel has exclusive rights to the live-action version of Peter Parker. So even though different versions of the superhero may appear in animated projects like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, there could be a clause in the contract that prevents Sony from bringing other live-action versions of the character to the screen. It, therefore, remains to wait for new developments to understand who Spider-Man Noir will be, while the opportunity presents itself for a new actor to interpret the superhero in a live-action version.
