Disney Hotstar’s web series Special Ops (2020) has made millions of fans. Also its hero Himmat Singh. The measure of the success of cinema is that along with the films, their characters settle in the memory of the audience and franchise films are made. The same thing applies to OTT. The characters get into the heart and new seasons of the web series are created. Disney Hotstar has also brought a new season of this series ‘Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story’ (Special Ops 1.5).

Special Ops 1.5 Review

The RAW’s Himmat Singh (Kay Kay Menon) in the form of a fox was so much liked by the audience that everyone wanted to know, how did this person become like this. The new series tells the story of Himmat Singh becoming Himmat Singh. It is called a spin-off in the technical language of cinema. Meaning, focusing on a particular character or event from the middle of the main story, it should be told in detail. It is like a branch of a tree or like a small river coming out of a big river. Here you see Himmat Singh’s youthful days, when he was new. But fast. Always listened to the mind and did not leave the enemies of the country anywhere. His style of working left no stone unturned to anger the senior officers.

Special Ops 1.5 Review: The Story

Special Ops 1.5– The Himmat Story starts like the first season. Abbas Sheikh (Vinay Pathak), a Delhi Police inspector and Himmat Singh’s aide, appears before a two-member commission of inquiry. The commission is probing some suspicious activities during the tenure of Himmat Singh to give him a clean chit and get retirement benefits, which has only one year left.

Abbas has been summoned to share similar information. Through Abbas’s statement, the story of Himmat Singh reaches the era when the terrorist attack on Parliament happened in 2001. All five terrorists were killed during the attack. But Himmat is sure that the sixth terrorist was also involved in this, who lives behind the scenes. However, no one believes in this theory of Himmat, due to which Himmat is still in search of that sixth terrorist. Viewers have also seen this part of the story in season one. The talk of the sixth terrorist also arises here, but this season is focused on Himmat Singh’s second mission, so the point of the sixth terrorist was not dragged here. This track is part of the main Special Ops.

The story of this spin-off season is set in the early years of the new century and the main plot is based on the capture of a rebel RAW agent Maninder, who is helped by Himmat’s college-time friend and fellow RAW officer Vijay Kumar. Maninder’s links are linked to an international gang (Sankalp Choudhary), which runs the business of honey-trapping the children of Indian embassy officials, army officers and politicians by obtaining sensitive and secret information from them and selling them to foreign powers. This season also reveals some shocking secrets of Himmat’s personal life, which are also related to the first season. Your thrill remains, so mentioning them here would not be worth it.

The pair of Himmat-Vijay gets busy. The story goes through Delhi to Sri Lanka, Britain, Russia and Ukraine. Enemies are outside, they are also inside the system. Some have been sold. Some have been trapped. The most dangerous is Maninder Singh (Adil Khan) because at one point he has worked with courage as an agent of RAW. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of courage. Meanwhile, the romance of Himmat’s love story and Vijay’s married life story also plays out, which later takes a very shocking turn. A slow start, Special Ops 1.5 keeps the audience hooked as it progresses.

The Review and Analysis

The new season is of only four episodes, with an average time of 45-50 minutes. In this sense, it will not take much time for you to know the back-story of Dare. KK Menon’s performance is superb. The magic of his brilliant eyes and dialogue delivery does not diminish in any scene. Aftab is great. You can often see this clean shaven actor here in a mustache. Gautami’s acting is decent but the actors who grab attention this season are Adil Khan and Aishwarya Sushmita. In both negative characters and with his acting, he has strengthened the story.

In foreign locations, where the director has made the series beautiful by giving attention to outdoor scenes, most of the scenes in Delhi are indoor. Neeraj Pandey has held the reins of series writing-direction in his hands but Shivam Nair stands firmly by his side. Shivam Nair has also directed the third episode. Here editing, camera work and background music have played an important role in making the series beautiful. Surely the fans will enjoy this story of Himmat Singh.

Special Ops 1.5 Review: The Performances

The actors have done a commendable job in the series so far. As always, KK Menon was seen wooing with his work. The detail can be seen in Aftaf’s acting. Gautami Kapoor has also done a great job. This series is shown in 4 episodes, editing, camera work and background music have played an important role in making the series beautiful. Overall, this four-episode series is good for Neeraj Pandey and whoever has seen the first season will definitely like the second one.

Special Ops

The character graph and treatment of Maninder, the main negative character of the series, is quite different. Through this character, the series reaches its end through foreign locations and intrigues. Maninder’s character is very strong and the second season is mainly a mouse-cat game between Himmat and Maninder. KK Menon has been seen doing a lot of running and action in the role of Young Himmat. Through VFX and wigs throughout the series, Himmat has been shown to be young, which is known, but does not make any noise. KK has shown the ups and downs of Himmat’s age with his body language, dialogues and expressions. This character has become his identity.

Aftab Shivdasani has given full support to KK in the role of Vijay. The bonding and understanding between the two looks and feels good. Adil Khan has done a great job in the character of Maninder. He has successfully portrayed the cunning, cunning and unpredictability of this character. In some scenes, the character even appears two steps ahead of Himmat Singh, adding to the thrill of adventure. Vinay Pathak has been cast in the character of Abbas Sheikh.

Talking about the rest of the cast, Gautami Kapoor as Saroj, Maria Ryboshpka as Russian spy (Sparrow) Natasha, Aishwarya Sushmita as Maninder’s colleague Karishma, Shiv Jyoti as Himmat Singh’s girlfriend Anita in their respective roles. Fitted. One of the highlights of the Special Ops series is its camera work, which has made many scenes interesting. The camera moving along with the characters helps to create the thrill of the story. Shivam Nair and Neeraj Pandey’s direction is tight and doesn’t let the scenes sag anywhere. The performance of the actors is also simple and keeps the emotions in the right proportion. Special Ops 1.5 – The Himmat Story is a tight-fisted series, where the audience gets to see many thrilling twists and turns to keep the hunger of the series going.

The Final Words

The first episode seems to be successful in grabbing the attention of the audience and critics from the very beginning. The makers have used enough flashbacks to connect the audience to the story of the previous season. In which he is reminded of the first season in which the attack on Parliament in 2021 is shown. Rewinding this 7-year-old anecdote, Himmat is faced with a mystery.
