Slumberland Ending Explained: Who is Flip? Does Nemo Return To The Waking World?

Very naughty and smart, one day, Flip was going through Nemo’s father’s belongings. Only she discovers that this man is the same one from the stories that her father told her before going to sleep. It is from there that Nemo’s adventure with Flip begins since they are together on a single mission: to find out where the pearls of desires are. Flip was looking in Nemo’s father’s belongings for the map that could guide him in Slumberland. The pearls that Flip is looking for can turn him back to his true self, which is why the objects are so valuable to him. Meanwhile, Nemo wants the pearls to fulfill another dream. She would like to have her father back.

Flip and Nemo make a deal with each other not to get in the way of fulfilling each other’s dreams. But despite their lack of trust, there is something that could stand in Flip’s way: Agent Green, who has pursued him for 30 years. Flip hides from Nemo the fact that he is a big criminal. At the same time, Nemo is also in danger. She is being hunted by a giant squid, the same one she saw in a dream on the day of the sad news she received about her father. If the squid catches up to it in Slumberland, it could die forever. With both being pursued in the same way, the adventure is more electrifying than ever.

The Obstacle Hunt

Unfortunately, Agent Green (Weruche Opia) hooks Flip and puts him behind bars. She takes the opportunity to play for real with Nemo and demystify the existence of pearls. Nemo is confused by the information she has received and Agent Green explains that she needs to go to the Waking World. So, Nemo wakes up willing to save Flip. For this, she will head towards BOSA and manage to make Flip escape. Flip assures Nemo that the pearls are real. They finally reach the final doors and, about to unravel the biggest riddle of this hunt, Nemo is woken up by the teacher at school.

However, Nemo is not willing to give up what he believes in and will try again to reach the pearls. The thing is, the squid is going to try to attack it and it will get in the way of the moment when it finally gets that close to its destination. Suddenly, Flip appears from a plane, knocks out the squid and saves Nemo from danger.

Are the Pearls Real?

Thinking everything was safe, the squid catches up with Flip. When Nemo takes a pearl, she dedicates the wish to flip and asks him to wake up in the Waking World, proving that pearls really exist. By the time Nemo gets his wish, she gets to spend time with her father. They do everything they loved to do together, humming, dancing, playing instruments and playing a lot. But, Nemo’s father explains that it is not possible to return to the Awakened universe. He takes the opportunity to wish her a long journey, full of luck and good news. Nemo says he is afraid of loneliness and his father reminds him: anyone who has gone through the Sea of Nightmares is capable of facing everything (and a little more) in the Waking World. This is enough for Nemo to understand that his father really wants the best for him.

Who Is Flip?

One of the main unknowns of Slumberland is Flip’s true identity, as the man cannot remember his life outside the world of dreams, where he has been stuck for decades. The mystery is solved when Phillip, Nemo’s uncle, shows the girl videos about him and his father when they were young. It is then that the protagonist discovers that her friend from Slumberland is her Uncle Phillip, and that Flip is her childhood nickname. But the funny side of him was forgotten, and that’s why the eccentric man can’t get out of dreamland.

When Nemo discovers this, he decides to return to Slumberland to rescue Flip, since he had been trapped in the Office of Subconscious Activities. But when they meet and Nemo tells him that in the real world, he’s a boring man who sells doorknobs, Flip doesn’t want to escape his confinement anymore.

Did Nemo Manage To See His Dad?

On the other hand, Nemo fights with his uncle in the real world, so he escapes to go in a small boat to the lighthouse where he used to live with his father (because Slumberland is one of the movies that emphasize the love of potato). However, he knocks himself unconscious, which causes him to find himself back in the world of dreams. There he finally manages to find the pearl that would allow him to make a wish, but when Flip is attacked by a monster, Nemo decides to use it to awaken his friend permanently from the land of dreams. This in turn means that she is no longer afraid of being alone in the world without her father.

But luckily, his stuffed animal (who comes to life in Slumberland) had grabbed another of the magic pearls, so Nemo finally achieves his goal and is reunited with his dad. She takes the opportunity to say goodbye to him emotionally but ends up waking up in the real world thanks to being saved by her uncle, who is already more adventurous because he became one with Flip. Finally, it is seen that Nemo is already happy in his new life with his uncle, with whom he remains to be seen (as Flip) in dreamland. Will there be a sequel to Slumberland?
