Singham Again Review: Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham Again has hit the theatres. It takes forward the legacy of Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Singham 2, released in 2011 and 2014. Well, there is nothing new in the story that you have not seen in the trailer of Singham Again. Bajirao Singham is an honest officer ready to die for his country. He is posted in Kashmir. His wife is Avni. He is the culture minister. Singham‘s wife Avni has been kidnapped. Singham, who saved the country, now puts his heart and soul into saving his wife along with his entire team. What he does for this and how, who all supports him in this, is the story of Singham Again. Rohit Shetty has been selling his film from the very beginning by calling it India’s ‘Avengers’. But it should not be seen through the lens of Hollywood or Marvel’s ‘Avengers’. Although by bringing Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff, Rohit has tried his best to serve all the items to the audience in one platter. But he has not been able to do so.

The entire story was shown in the trailer of Singham Again. Rohit Shetty has shown the same thing to the five-minute trailer by expanding it to two and a half hours. It has been linked to Ramayana and an army of stars has been assembled. In Ramayana, Ram goes to Sri Lanka to get Sita and defeats Ravana. In Singham Again, Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgan) goes to Lanka to save his wife Avni (Kareena Kapoor Khan) from the clutches of Zubair (Arjun Kapoor). Simba (Ranveer Singh), Suryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), Satya (Tiger Shroff), Shakti (Deepika Padukone) help him in this task. In these characters, you will see Hanuman in some and Laxman in others. The writer of the film, Kshitij Patwardhan, has connected the current story to a show being done on Ramayana on stage. In the show, research on Ramayana is being shown through audio-video, along with which Ramlila is also being staged. Singham‘s story has been woven with this. This experiment has not been very effective.

Singham Again Review: Story Plot

The story is of the same old Singham but has been woven in a new way on the theme of Ramayana. An attempt has been made to complete the story of the film in the same number of days as Ramlila. For this, Singham‘s (Ajay Devgan) wife Avni (Kareena Kapoor), who works in the Ministry of Culture, is organizing a special Ramlila, in which the shooting has also been done at those places which are mentioned in the story of Ramayana. Two years before that, Singham was posted as SOG head in Kashmir, where he arrests Omar Sharif (Jackie Shroff). That is, the story is taken forward from Rohit Shetty‘s Sooryavanshi‘. But now the Home Minister has appointed Singham as the captain of the ‘Shiva Squad’ with a brigade of selected strong IPS officers of the country.

The arrest of some drug smugglers reveals that their boss is Danger Lanka (Arjun Kapoor), whose boss sets fire to the Madurai police station as soon as his associates are arrested and slit the throats of 15 policemen. Later his connection with Omar Sharif is revealed, and he is also the Ravana of this story. The story is about his revenge and dealing with him. Since the theme is of Ramayana, the story also has Sita’s abduction, Jatayu’s resistance, Laxman Rekha, Laxman, Hanuman’s character sets Lanka on fire, there is also a scene of him sitting on the throne of the tail. Overall, the entire film has been made symbolically like ‘Rohit Shetty‘s Ramayana’.

Singham Again Review and Analysis

First, let’s talk about writing. Rohit has worked so hard in getting the star cast that he did not take much pressure off writing the story. He picked up Ramayana and wrote the screenplay on the same lines. Yes, some of Milap Zaveri’s dialogues are good. An attempt has been made to create fun through them. But there is no dialogue that you will remember or leave a deep impression on your mind. Rohit is known for his films in which cars are blown up. This is his signature style. But when he made the first Singham, the actions of blowing up cars, bouncing them on the ground, and then throwing them in the air, slapping the cars, and taking the air out of them were fresh. In 2024, all such actions have become old. All the characters are getting out of the car in the same style. They are beating the villain in the same style. Everything seems repetitive. There is no fresh feeling after watching anyone’s action. Yes, the fighting scenes of Tiger Shroff are something new.

The life of Rohit’s films used to be his villains. Be it, Prakash Raj, in the first one, or Sonu Sood in ‘Simmba’. A strong villain against the hero. But Singham Again disappoints here too. The villain of Singham Again is Danger Lanka alias Zubair Hafiz. “Who is not a Jihadi, has come from abroad, is educated. Does not believe in casteism. But to take revenge for his father and grandfather, he wants to kill Singham.” Rohit has done some smart writing for this character of Arjun. But Arjun looks expressionless throughout the film. There is no anger on his face. Even in the fighting scene with Ajay in the climax, a very cold expression is seen. Talking about Deepika Padukone, she has played Shakti Shetty in the film. Deepika had worked with Rohit in ‘Chennai Express’. In this film, she looks like Minnama from Chennai Express. She has adopted the same accent. We have seen Deepika doing action scenes in ‘Pathan’, so there is nothing new here. In the second half, the level gets up a bit after Ranveer Singh’s entry. But he also spoils the matter with his overacting. After some time, everything starts looking very over-dramatic.

Kareena Kapoor is also in this cop universe. Her character is kidnapped by Danger Lanka. It is fun to see Kareena’s beautiful saree and her nice hairstyle throughout the film. In one scene, Kareena is running in the jungle, escaping from the goons, but nothing happens to her saree. It remains absolutely neat and clean. In one scene, Danger Lanka is carrying her in his lap. There too, Kareena’s saree flutters in the air so lovingly that there is less action and more romantic feeling. The first hour of the film is very boring. The conversation between Singham, his wife, and his son about the generation gap and thinking is not entertaining at all. The film picks up a little when Arjun Kapoor, who plays the villain, enters. Meanwhile, Deepika and Tiger Shroff also entered. One or two of their action scenes are good, but then they disappear and appear again in the climax.

After the interval, the derailed film gets some entertaining moments when Ranveer Singh, who plays Simba, enters. He makes the audience laugh through his antics and dialogues, but the scenes with Singham, the lead character of the film, are not as the audience expects. The audience misses Singham‘s roar and his powerful dialogues. Singham has not even got such scenes where he can show his ‘Herogiri’. An attempt has been made to create such an effect only by wearing black glasses and doing a stylish slow-motion walk. One or two scenes are fine, but repeated scenes like these seem monotonous. The film is based on only one mission Singham has to rescue his wife, but there are no ups and downs or thrills in the drama regarding this. Everything happens easily. The writers have kept only the main things in mind and have thrown the finer things out of the window. Therefore, the tension that was necessary for this mission is not visible in the drama.

A lot has been said about the villain Zubair in the film that he is dangerous, smart, and a storm of fire, but such things are not seen in his character. He makes mistakes after mistakes and invites trouble himself. Why does Singham call Simba to prove that his wife is safe? This was bound to increase his troubles. He could not think of the simple fact that Singham could also follow Simba. The writers have taken a lot of liberties in connecting the story to Ramayana and have relied less on the understanding of the audience. This liberty is appreciated when the film has a lot of entertainment, which is lacking in Singham Again. The writer has not been able to give the kind of entertaining scenes for which Rohit Shetty‘s films are known. There is no emotion in the drama, the action scenes are also okay and the comedy is also limited.

Director Rohit Shetty has tried to impress the audience with the dazzling array of stars. His focus was so much on style that he overlooked the flaws in the script. Ajay Devgan was okay like Singham. He did not get any strong scenes like Singham. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s scenes are boring. Deepika Padukone’s character shows promise but is not taken forward much. The same was the case with Tiger Shroff’s character. Ranveer Singh managed to shine as Simba, and he provides relief. Akshay Kumar comes in the end and makes the film stylish. Arjun Kapoor impresses as the villain. Salman Khan comes for a few seconds as Chulbul Pandey and the director hints that the next film can be made on Singham and Chulbul. Salman’s stardom could not be used properly. The dialogue of the film is mediocre, whereas a film of this kind demands strong dialogue. The cinematography is good, and the action scenes do not impress much. The editing of the film is tight.

Rohit Shetty‘s entire focus was on Ram devotees, however, Rohit Shetty‘s entire focus was on Ram devotees, that’s why in Kashmir when Omer Sharif was being beaten up, Shiv Shrotram was recited in the background, this dialogue was also made to be said by a Kashmiri youth that, “pelting stones is old fashion, this is the new Kashmir of new India”. Ajay Devgan also tells the Home Minister, “Sir, we have entered twice before, we will enter for the third time also by taking the name of Bajrang Bali”. Here the hint was toward a surgical strike. Ranveer Singh also says that “Wow technology… this is self-reliant India”, he also delivers an emotional dialogue that, if Sita returns from Lanka without Ram, then Diwali will no longer be like Diwali”. Kareena also keeps advocating that Ramayana is historical by getting into her character and the use of the saffron flag in the movie for Ravana’s killing.

This shortcoming is felt in Singham Again however one thing that is felt is that the story is of Ramayan but like the Pandavas, five heroes and two big heroines have been pitted against a small Ravana or Duryodhana. Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, and Deepika were in a way the fifth hero. It’s a different matter that at the end of the movie Salman Khan will also be seen filling the gap of the fifth hero. In such a situation, no matter how dangerous Arjun Kapoor is made to appear, after a while Arjun Kapoor starts looking like Arjun Kapoor and not any other character. So, this might hurt many people. You will laugh out loud too, this movie is a movie to be watched with family during the Diwali holidays, it is a value-for-money movie if you don’t think about how the inspector is being transferred across the country like an IPS, etc., then you will enjoy it a lot. However, now he has become a DCP, a glimpse of which was seen in Suryavanshi. You will be seen laughing most of the time in the entire movie. Initially, it was also felt that this time Singham fought with goons or terrorists in Kashmir only, but later the story reaches Sri Lanka via Mumbai.

Singham Again Review: The Last Words

The best thing about the movie is that it moves along at its own pace with a double dose of comedy and action and you do not get bored. Big stars keep getting launched in between, so the curiosity remains as to what will happen next. The cinematography of Kashmir, Sri Lanka, and Tamil Nadu also leaves its mark. Ajay Devgan looks better than before. Kareena too. Although Akshay disappoints him a bit. Ranveer Singh, Tiger, and Deepika are like tadka in the movie. Arjun Kapoor looks amazingly dangerous at the police station scene. The movie has been avoided by adding useless songs. Families will enjoy watching this movie together. So in such a situation, you can give this movie half a point more in the name of entertainment. But do not try to use your brain at all, as is the rule of Rohit Shetty‘s movies. Overall, the graph of the Singham series is continuously going down. The second film was weaker than the first one and the third film is weaker than the second one. Rohit Shetty‘s film is very loud. But there is nothing in it that will stay with you or make you remember something. Rohit Shetty has copied and pasted his films. No surprise or twist will make your eyes open and your breath stops. If you are happy to see a cameo of a big hero every half hour, then this movie is for you. If you want to see something colorful without thinking, then definitely go to the theatre.
