See Season 3, the sci-fi drama starring Jason Momoa and created by Peaky Blinders showrunner Steven Knight reaches its final season and debuts on August 26, 2022, on Apple TV+ with the first episode, followed by a new weekly episode every Friday (eight in total). The post-apocalyptic series is set in a ruthless and primitive future: hundreds of years after surviving humanity lost the first of its five senses. In See Season 3 we find, alongside Momoa, Sylvia Hoeks, Hera Hilmar, Christian Camargo, Archie Madekwe, Nesta Cooper, Tom Mison, Olivia Cheng, Eden Epstein, Michael Raymond-James, David Hewlett and Trieste Kelly Dunn.
Almost a year has passed since Baba Voss – the warrior leader of the Alkenny tribe, husband of Maghra and father of twins born after centuries with the mythological ability to see – defeated Edo and said goodbye to his family to live in the forest, when a trivantian scientist develops a new and devastating form of weaponry capable of threatening the future of humanity. At this point, Baba is forced to return to Paya to protect his tribe again from a desperate but powerful queen, who believes that children are the fruit of witchcraft.
See Season 3 Episode 1 Review: The Story
The plot resumes 256 days after the great battle of the Greenhill Gap. The Trivantians and the Payans come to a provisional treaty. The success of the coup to oust Sibeth Kane (Sylvia Hoeks) has left her sister Maghra with a crown she doesn’t want and with few options for her to deal with the crises that threaten to bring conflict back to the world. Next to her is Tamacti Jun (Christian Camargo) stuck between the violent life of the past and the new one that made him reborn. In the midst of all this are the sighted children of Baba Voss and Maghra whose destiny as adults becomes more and more uncertain. Haniwa is drawn to the knowledge of the old world and wishes to lead a life of his own, while Kofun trusts his sister less and is facing fatherhood.
Everything the characters have come to know and love is about to explode…. At the beginning of this season, we learn that some of the Trivantians have a secret weapon in their hands that they intend to use to conquer the world. Using the knowledge of science they have begun to manufacture bombs that will allow them to decimate the Payan and whoever will hinder them. Baba Voss is one of the first to learn about it because he miraculously survives a planned attack with these explosive means. The new danger will be enough to pull him out of isolation and make him act with the main objectives of warning and saving his family, and averting catastrophe.
See Season 3 Episode 1 Review and Analysis
The third season continues on the exciting and positive trajectory of the first two cycles, with the second tranche of episodes whose gaze is turned to the deepening of the characters as they approach to see the end of the story, and with a finale full of action sequences. The living and impressive part of all this work can only reside in the exemplary performance of Jason Momoa in the role of a brutal warrior but above all of a leader, a guide. The American actor can ideally move into the emotional situation of his character and instill in Baba Voss’s intensity: a passionate sense of melancholy. True, the story continues to revolve around anyone trying to stay afloat in the harsh world they live in, but the main character, played by the star of Aquaman, remains the compelling center of everything, with his great presence due mostly to the physical performance he achieves in the less agitated war scenes, and in those in which he squirms like an obsessed in the throes of angry pain to protect the family he loves, but with a ferocity and speed that leap off the screen.
Although this wasn’t always enough, like in the frantic ending of See Season 2 when, against his will, Baba had to kill his enemy and brother Edo Voss. And, despite the passage of time, his wounds start to bleed again. He now lives almost completely alone in the woods and struggles with guilt; acts as the fulcrum of the remaining story that contributes to marking an explosive season and with an intriguing, well-directed development: with many fields that embrace very large portions of space that allow the show to unfold spectacularly. Here the story, which even gives us moments of humor, centers on Baba Voss’ desperate attempts to avoid death and destruction: terrible ways are used, and betrayals are consummated.
