Secret Invasion Episode 4 Ending Explained and The 7 Most Shocking Revelations of The Fourth Episode
Secret Invasion Episode 4 has arguably shown fans the biggest reveals of the show to date, with plenty of shocking twists. Every episode of Secret Invasion featured massive reveals that changed not only the status quo of the show, but the entire MCU. From Maria Hill’s death at the end of Secret Invasion episode 1 to the reveal that Nick Fury is married to a Skrull a week later, Marvel Studios ‘ newest Disney+ show has the most massive shocking revelations of any episode show. of the MCU. In the Secret Invasion Episode 4 finale, this is even more evident. Somehow, the series has managed to move past the twist of G’iah’s death at the end of episode 3 of Secret Invasion with a new set of thrilling, shocking, and heartbreaking reveals leading up to the final two episodes. With that said, here are all the narrative turns Secret Invasion took in Episode 4 explained in detail.
Secret Invasion Episode 4: Summary Recap
The new episode of Secret Invasion picks up from the moments that closed the past events, plunging us back into the ongoing action. If on the one hand, the discovery of a previously discovered plan B of the infiltrated agent (the mole) is surprising, for the rest of the playing time we return to the large chessboard on which we moved from the initial moments. The Skrulls led by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) want to carry out their plan at all costs, even at the risk of their own lives. Their anger manifests itself in a direct attack on America, which once again aims to destabilize the world balance. In addition to the action in the field, Secret Invasion Episode 4 is also a very intimate episode, to deepen, at least, the relationship that Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has built over the years with Priscilla/Varra (Charlayne Woodard).
Their direct comparison represents the beating heart of the entire narrative, highlighting some shadows both in the relationship to unite them, and in the change experienced after the Blip by Nick himself (we also talked about it in our review of Secret Invasion Episode 3). His current conditions are a reason for ridicule by the other protagonists, committed to underestimating a helpless old man who is nonetheless ready to take action when he is needed. Thus, the shadows of this series become even darker, continuously playing with the Skrulls’ ability to change shape and with the weight of the masks they have been forced to wear for a very long time, due to their nature as space nomads without a real home in which live peacefully. It is just that internal conflict divides the two factions currently fighting, also involving the human race in a series of clashes of which the latter is not yet fully aware.
Secret Invasion Episode 4 Ending Explained
The fourth episode Secret Invasion is out, which features a brutal ending while confirming some key theories about the Skrulls and their attempt to claim Earth as their own. Titled “Beloved,” the Skrulls are still bent on pitting the United States and Russia against each other to wage nuclear war, while also empowering themselves with new powers as Super-Skrulls. For this reason, the episode presents a truly tragic ending for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the few allies he has left. In Episode 4 of Secret Invasion, the Skrull revolution led by the new General Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) has embarked on its most audacious mission yet to try and kill the President of the United States. In this episode, Nick Fury faces the truth about his Skrull wife Priscilla/Varra (Charlayne Woodard) along with other major revelations, culminating in a brutal loss. Here’s the Secret Invasion episode 4 ending explained.
G’iah is a Super-Skrull
Early in Episode 4 of Secret Invasion, we learn that Gi’ah (Emilia Clarke) has survived being killed by Gravik after being exposed as a mole still working with her exiled father Talos. This is thanks to the powers of Extremis. Recovered from her injuries after Gravik’s departure, Gi’ah goes straight to her father, despite her frustrations with the more idealistic hope that humanity and the Skrulls can still find a way to live in peace. For that reason, Gi’ah is perfectly poised to join Nick Fury more directly in the last few episodes of Secret Invasion, especially after the fourth episode’s shocking ending.
Though still torn apart from her desire to give her people a new home, it is clear that Gi’ah no longer supports Gravik and his ruthless tactics. For that reason, now that she’s become the MCU’s second confirmed Super-Skrull, she would certainly be a formidable rival. As has been shown in previous episodes of Secret Invasion and now in episode 4, it will be very difficult to kill the new Skrull general now that Extremis has provided Gravik with a quick heal. With her powers, Gi’ah has the best chance of stopping Gravik for good.
Rhodey is a Skrull
As seen in Secret Invasion Episode 4, Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes finally reveals himself as a Skrull agent working for Gravik. Replaced for her valuable ties to President Ritson (Dermot Mulroney), this female Skrull posing as Rhodey has undoubtedly been feeding Gravik intelligence on the United States government for some time. However, it was also confirmed that Fury already knew the truth about Rhodey, most likely as far back as their conversation in Secret Invasion episode 2, when the fake Rhodey called him “Nick”. After all, the MCU has determined that no one calls Fury by his first name.
It is currently unknown where the real Rhodey is or if he is still alive after being replaced by the Skrulls. Likewise, the fate of the fake Rhodey is also a mystery, having disappeared after calling Gravik to attack President Ritson’s motorcade. The Skrulls may no longer need Rhodey after this attack and perhaps Fury will be able to find the real Rhodes by the end of the series. Either way, Rhodey being replaced by the Skrulls could directly tie into his upcoming film Armor Wars, in which he’ll try to protect the legacy left by Iron Man. Perhaps that legacy was tainted when Rhodes was replaced by a shapeshifting alien.
Gravik Super-Skrull’s New Power
After already displaying his Extremis- given powers, first seen in Iron Man 3, the firefight between the US government protecting President Ritson and the Skrulls posing as Russian soldiers led Gravik to reveal his second power as the MCU’s Super-Skrull. Extending his arm that transforms into intertwining branches, Gravik’s new power comes courtesy of Groot, the Guardian of the Galaxy himself. Having left a piece of himself after the Battle of Wakanda, Groot’s DNA was harvested by the Skrulls for their experiments.
As a result, Groot is the Mister Fantastic equivalent to Gravik’s Super-Skrull powers, instead of the official Fantastic Four yet to debut in the MCU. Mirroring the first Super-Skrull from the original comics, who had all the powers of Marvel’s First Family, Extremis is the power equivalent to the Human Torch. Additionally, the DNA from Cull Obsidian’s severed hand likely provides durability and strength not unlike Ben Grimm’s Thing, while Jotunheim’s Frostbeast could allow Gravik to create ice shields as opposed to Sue’s energy shields Storm. However, Cull Obsidian and Frost Beast’s powers have not yet been seen in Secret Invasion.
Talos Was Killed by Gravik in Secret Invasion Episode 4
At the end of episode 4 of Secret Invasion, Fury and Talos’s mission to rescue President Ritson ends in disaster. With the President’s motorcade under attack by Gravik and his Skrull forces, Fury can recover Ritson with the help of Talos. Unfortunately, Gravik stabs Talos to death, leaving Nick Fury helpless. With no choice but to get Ritson out of the line of fire, Fury fled the chaos of battle leaving Talos’ body behind in the final scene of episode 4 of Secret Invasion.
Although it is possible that Talos also received some Extremis, it seems unlikely to see a twist already seen at the beginning of the episode. It’s also unlikely that Gi’ah was pretending to be his father during the mission to rescue Ritson, having left his father earlier in the episode after calling his optimism for Skrull-human coexistence “delusional.” It does indeed seem that Talos is dead, leaving Gi’ah to mourn and perhaps try to avenge his father once he finds out what Gravik did to him.
Where is Fury going with the President?
Escaping the kill zone as fast as possible with Ritson in the passenger seat, it is unknown where Fury is headed with the President of the United States. However, it’s likely to be a secret hideout (perhaps in a graveyard as seen in the trailer?). After all, Fury arming himself in this particular safe house is one of the last scenes left to be seen after episode 4 of Secret Invasion. With just two episodes to go, it’s unknown what Fury is up to know that he seems to have lost forever Talos, his only true ally and his closest friend in the current MCU.
7 Most Shocking Revelations of The Fourth Episode
7. G’iah is Alive and a Super Skrull
The most shocking aspect of Secret Invasion episode 3 was undoubtedly G’iah ‘s death at the hands of Gravik in the final scene of the episode. However, in an equally surprising twist, Secret Invasion Episode 4 revealed that G’iah is alive. This all stems from the fact that she used Gravik ‘s machine on herself before the episode 3 finale, giving herself the Super Skrull powers that Gravik was shown to have. If G’iah may have initially died from Gravik’s gunshot wound, her Super Skrull Extremis powers – remember Iron Man 3? – allowed her to heal and be revived. Eventually, G’iah’s wound healed and she allowed her to be reunited with Talos. Interestingly, Gravik thinks he’s succeeded in killing G’iah, which likely sets up a big showdown between the two Skrulls in upcoming episodes.
6. Rhodey is a Skrull
Eventually, the rumors turned out to be true. Rhodes is effectively a Skrull imposter. Just before a scene between Fury and the fake Rhodes, a Skrull is shown taking a shower before transforming into Rhodey, finally providing confirmation of the Secret Invasion’s most talked about theory. This marks one of Secret Invasion’s biggest twists in the MCU, as it casts doubt on Rhodey ‘s previous appearances. The burning questions now are how long Rhodey a Skrull has been and where is the real Rhodey being kept. This will likely be a major plot point for Secret Invasion episodes 5 and 6, as Nick Fury will likely seek out the real Rhodes to help him fight the Skrull menace. Rhodes is likely to be held alongside the other humans in the Gravik compound, where G’iah could aid Fury in infiltrating, thus freeing Rhodey.
5. Gravik ordered Varra to kill Nick Fury
After the Secret Invasion episode 3 finale revealed that Varra was working with Gravik, many wondered what the character would do in the series. We learned in Episode 4 of Secret Invasion that Gravik – or more accurately Skrull Rhodey – ordered Varra to kill Nick Fury. Threatening Varra with death if she didn’t cooperate, she was ordered to retrieve the gun from the safety deposit box at the end of Secret Invasion episode 3 and use it to kill Fury, to prevent the superspy from further trying to thwart Gravik’s plans.
4. Varra and Fury Decide to Spare Each Other
Despite the order to kill Fury, another big revelation from Secret Invasion Episode 4 was that Varra spared his life. Fury was quite suspicious of Varra, as he demonstrated when he overheard her and Rhodey’s conversation in the church. This led to a confrontation at Fury’s house, where the two tried to figure out what was real and what wasn’t. Eventually, both concluded that their love for each other was real and spared each other’s lives.
3. Gravik is Blackmailing Nick Fury with the Death of Maria Hill
After the scene where Fury faces Varra, he goes to talk to the Skrull Rhodey. Fury fills Rhodey’s drink with a tracer liquid, which allows him to find out where Gravik will strike. Fury then asks fake Rhodey to keep quiet about the Skrull invasion and give him his job back, solidifying the cover of him pretending not to know about the Skrull imposter. However, Rhodey shows Fury surveillance footage of Maria’s death, which clearly shows Gravik impersonating Fury to shoot her. Rhodey claims Nick’s story that Gravik shot Maria won’t stand up in court and blackmails Fury using the footage.
2. Nick Fury Saves the President from Gravik’s Assassination Attempt
At the climax of Secret Invasion Episode 4, Fury and Talos track Rhodey and catch up with them amid Gravik and the Skrull’s assassination attempt on President Ritson. The Skrulls were emulating Russian soldiers in an attempt to worsen the growing tension between the US and Russia after the Moscow bombing in Episode 1 of Secret Invasion. After a firefight, Fury and Talos retrieve Ritson from his overturned car. The episode ends with Fury walking off with Ritson, having thwarted Gravik’s latest attempt to wreak further havoc on Earth.
1. Gravik Kills Talos
In a cruel parallel to the Secret Invasion Episode 3 ending, Gravik kills Talos at the end of Secret Invasion Episode 4. As Talos tries to break President Ritson’s car window, he is shot in the shoulder by one of Gravik’s henchmen. Eventually, Talos manages to break through the glass, but not before transforming back into his Skrull form as he loses blood. Fury grabs Ritson and carries him to his car, while Talos is grabbed by one of the British soldiers who help the duo.
Just when Fury heads back for Talos, though, the British soldier is revealed to be Gravik. Gravik then draws a knife and stabs Talos in the chest, killing him. Fury is forced to choose between saving the President or being with his friend in his last moments, and the episode ends with a shot of the lifeless body of Talos. It’s unlikely that Talos survived the same way that G’iah survived, as there was no time before Secret Invasion Episode 4 when Talos could have become a Super Skrull.
Also, using the same method for two characters who survived an assassination attempt by Gravik would be redundant. Instead, Talos’ death is likely to prompt G’iah to oppose Gravik alongside Fury, as she has now lost both of her parents to Gravik’s cause. Likewise, the death of his best friend, the loss of his wife who went into hiding, and technically the loss of his friend Rhodey will push Fury to stop Gravik once and for all in the final two episodes of Secret Invasion.
