Secret Invasion is in full swing at Disney Plus, with Nick Fury as committed as ever to stopping the Skrulls from taking over Earth. If you have seen the last episode released and you have doubts about the ending of Secret Invasion Episode 3, the third installment of the Marvel series, here is our explanation. Of course, beware of spoilers! The long-awaited, Secret Invasion finally arrives at Disney Plus. The first series of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will focus on the figure of Nick Fury, again played by Samuel L. Jackson, grappling with a delicate investigation aimed at preventing nothing less than an alien invasion!
As we told you in our first impressions of Secret Invasion, the series differs a lot from the comic book Secret Invasion of the same name, but this does not mean that there will be no lack of references and quotations from the world of Marvel Comics. For viewers fond of the cinematic dimension of the heroes of the House of Ideas, Secret Invasion will be equally full of easter eggs from the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to its need to fill the temporal gap left after the Blip in the lives of some characters.
Secret Invasion Episode 3: Summary Recap
Gravik’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) plan continues to develop uninterruptedly, and his machinations are increasingly taking possession of an Earth on the verge of collapse and chaos, but he knows he has a traitor in his ranks and organizes a trap to capture him. Meanwhile Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), thanks to the information provided by G’iah (Emilia Clarke), desperately try to slow down what would effectively be a Third World War. Now, let’s start from the basic assumption: this is by no means a disappointing or annoying episode to watch, on the contrary, it is full of well-crafted if not very impactful scenes. The expected comparison between Talos and Gravik, first of all, in terms of presentation, charm, and incompatible worldviews that inexorably collide can only stand out and demonstrates for the umpteenth time the charisma of the Skrull leader, who in contrast with the vast majority of MCU-branded villains take action and work.
Avoiding getting bogged down in an endless preparation phase that allows the heroes to save the universe every time. In short, he is a tangible threat far more intimidating and fearsome than the dark elves of Thor: The Dark World or Hawkeye’s Tracksuit Mafia. She’s a macabre figure who will stop at nothing to carry out his plan, from which we learn more details – with some faint references to Fantastic 4. But we’re just wildly speculating. And of course, we cannot fail to mention the entire closing sequence of the episode, full of pathos and suspense where every second counts and could be decisive, as every thriller should do.
The beginning of the third episode of Secret Invasion solves part of the mystery about the ending of the previous episode, where we discovered Fury’s secret family. In the flashback where we witness the meeting between Fury and Varra, the Skrull whom we discover to be his wife, is named a certain Dreykov. Reference to General Dreykov known in Black Widow, the film dedicated to Natasha Romanoff, where we discovered that Dreykov was in charge of the Red Room Project, from which the Widow had emerged.
Speaking of Fury’s past, during a car chat with Talos, the alien again recalls the times of their first meeting in Captain Marvel, specifying how Fury’s success in SHIELD depended on his relationship with the Skrulls. A ten-year friendship, the one with Talos, allows him to quickly find out when Talos is taken prisoner. When Nick is called, Fury realizes that his friend has been captured, considering that as we know from the days of Captain Marvel, the only way to address Fury is by calling him Fury!
Gravik’s plan to counter potential metahuman threats includes a procedure to empower the Skrulls, imbuing them with new powers. The most obvious reference is to the Super Skrull, a lineage of Skrulls genetically modified to take on the powers of some of Earth’s heroes. A procedure that may have been tried on Gravik himself, given that during a heated argument with Talos in which he is injured he seems to heal quickly thanks to Extremis, the compound that appeared in Iron Man 3 and which we saw in the previous episode being in the possession of the Skrulls.
Why See Betrayed?
Having reached the mid-series halfway point, Secret Invasion makes it clear how the relationship between Fury and Talos is increasingly central to the secret agent’s past. The animosities that emerged in the previous episodes seem to be analyzed in the light of a common sense of inadequacy in the face of the threat of Gravik, the new leader of the Skrulls. To make the situation even more tense is the progressive awareness of how the shape-shifting aliens have infiltrated human society to the point of being able to undermine Fury’s safety. The ending with a mysterious phone call between Varra and a decidedly familiar voice (was it Rhodey?) portends an explosive second half for Secret Invasion.
The Highlights of The Third Episode of Secret Invasion
- Gravik explains to the Skrulls infiltrated into high political offices his plan to start the war: a British submarine, the Neptune, must hit an American plane in flight.
- Gravik says the Skrulls will soon change their powers to become a weapon of mass destruction.
- After the theme song, a flashback to 1998 is proposed. In New York City, Nick Fury meets the Skrull who will be his wife, Varra. The flashback is important because it indicates Fury’s wife was a spy.
- An argument in the kitchen between Varra (also called Scylla) and Fury suggests that Fury went to space after returning from the Blip.
- Gravik begins to suspect that G’iah may be a spy.
- Gravik and Talos meet and have a heated argument. Gravik threatens to kill Talos’ daughter Gi’ah, as Talos drives a knife into his hand. But this heals immediately.
- Nick Fury and Talos meet at an inn after arguing in the previous episode. Fury enlists Talos’ help to stop Gravik and the soon-to-be-anticipated terrorist attack.
- Fury and Talos go to the house of the submarine commodore, the only one who has the password to stop the attack.
- The Commodore reveals himself to be a Skrull and after refusing to reveal the password Talos kills him with a pistol shot
- Talos asks G’iah to find the password to stop the missile launch sequence from the Netpune. The girl retrieves it from the mind of the Commodore, who is being held captive in New Skrullos
- G’iah tries to escape from the Skrull base but is intercepted by Gravik, who kills her.
- The last scene of the third episode of Secret Invasion is dedicated to Fury’s wife. She opens a safety deposit box from where she takes out a gun. She receives a call from a man who makes an appointment to meet. She asks to speak to Gravik but this is not allowed
Secret Invasion Episode 3: The Change of Talos
Talos has changed. In this third episode of Secret Invasion, he proves meaner and less inclined to joke. So much so that when Fury joins him at the inn, Talos is very serious about making his friend understand that he is no longer what he used to be and that now he is not willing to “run” to help Fury, without the latter asking him. in a certain way. In the first two episodes, Talos never wanted to kill a Skrull but now he’s the one who shoots the submarine commodore to death. Nick Fury looks at him with surprise, but Talos has a determined and impassive expression.
The psychological warfare with Gravik and the constant danger to which his daughter is subjected have made him another man. In my opinion, the discussion with Nick Fury that took place in the second episode of Secret Invasion was fundamental. Talos was “thrown away” in a snap by Fury because he withheld information from Samuel L. Jackson’s character. Unfortunately, Fury was unable to handle the moment differently and treated a faithful friend like Talos rather badly. Who knows how Talos will react to his daughter’s death?
Fury’s Wife?
Nick Fury’s wife is undoubtedly a “peppery” addition to the Marvel series. This is because she happens to be a spy for Gravik. If this were Fury, the greatest spy on the planet, he could be almost lethally shot in the heart. Fury is not what he used to be, he doesn’t seem to have the wisdom of the past and the brilliance in making decisions. He failed to thwart the terrorist attack and failed to save Maria Hill in the first episode of Secret Invasion. And what’s more, for years, he hasn’t noticed that his wife is a spy for the enemy (at least that’s how it seems from the facts of the third episode which has an unambiguous title: Betrayed).
Secret Invasion Episode 3 Ending Explained: Who is Priscilla Talking to at The End?
Priscilla is probably talking to Pagon at the end of episode 3 of Secret Invasion. We see Nick Fury’s wife talking to someone before the credits roll. The episode didn’t reveal the person’s name, but fans heard that it was a male voice. When Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard) asked to speak to Gravik, the man on the phone denied her request and stated that she needed to speak to him. An educated guess is that it is Pagon (Killian Scott) the man Priscilla is talking to, but fans will still have to wait another week to find out the answer.
Is G’iah Dead?
G’iah is dead. Unless the writers find a creative solution to keep the character alive, G’iah (Emilia Clarke) appears to have died at the end of episode 3, after being shot by Gravik. Throughout the episode, it is revealed that G’iah has been working with her father, Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), all this time. When Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) found the Skrull spy, he shot his former ally in the chest. The bullet appears to have hit a region close to the heart, assuming that Skrull’s physiology is the same as that of humans. Either way, the blow looked lethal. Secret Invasion is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series from Phase 5, kicking off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February. The show adapts the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name published in 2008, in which the Skrulls have been infiltrating Earth for years, replacing key individuals, including the Avengers, with Skrull imposters.
