Scream: All The Deaths And Murders Of The Fifth Chapter Of The Saga Here Is The List

The return of Ghostface is equivalent to a long trail of blood that returns to stain the town of Woodsboro: here is who dies (and how) and who manages to escape in the fifth Scream

Someone is back in the role of Ghostface in Woodsboro and this return means one thing: the list of murders by the masked assassin will grow with many new names and some particularly gory deaths. In the fifth Scream – released in theaters in 2022 – there is no longer Wes Craven (who passed away in 2015) nor the historical screenwriter Kevin Williamson. The clear intention (and declared by the characters of the film themselves) is to adhere as much as possible to the revival approach, in fact retracing the steps of the 1996 progenitor film closely.

This means that at the center of the story is again the attempt by a group of very young inhabitants of Woodsboro to survive until the discovery of the identity of Ghostface, who know how to hide among themselves. Between expected returns from the first chapters of the saga (Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette) and new recruits to the franchise, Ghostface has a wide choice over its potential victims. Someone manages to escape him, but many do not arrive alive at the end of the film, dying in a particularly brutal way.

Here is who lives and who dies in the fifth Scream (2022). To find out who hides behind the Ghostface mask and why he kills, you can read the explanation of the plot and the ending of the film.

All Deaths From Scream 2022

Tara Carpenter

Sam’s sister is the first to be attacked in the fifth Scream, with a scene that closely resembles the famous killing of Drew Barrymore in the 1996 Scream. Ghostface calls Tara on the landline at home multiple times until the girl responds and he submits her to the usual Stab-themed quiz, even if the girl explains that she doesn’t love that saga and that she prefers sophisticated horror like The Babadook. Ghostface threatens his best friend Amber (actually one of the two killers), showing her via video call that he is nearby and will kill her if she misses the answer.

Tara Carpenter

Tara misses the last question, identifying as the killer of the first Stab Billy (the real father of half-sister Sam) but not the accomplice Stu. Although Tara electronically blocks the doors of the house, Ghostface manages to enter it is likely that Amber previously hacked her cell phone to disable the security system. Ghostface stabs her several times in the abdomen, stabs her hand with the blade and breaks her leg. However, the girl survives the first assault and is hospitalized. She will face two more, so much so that Richie will call her “our pincushion”.

Tara will be attacked again in the hospital, where she will have to painfully drag herself into a wheelchair to survive. She will be saved by her sister Sam and Linus’ heroic sacrifice. In the final slaughter Tara will manage to survive despite her critical health conditions and will give the coup de grace to Amber, reiterating that her favorite horror is still The Babadook.

Vince Schneider

Liv’s ex pisses off the girl and her group of friends, hoping to re-establish the relationship she had formed with him the previous summer. Upon exiting the bar where he was about to start a fight with Chad (pulling out a knife), Vince sees the headlights of his sports car come on as he urinates against a wall. Annoyed, he walks over to the car, thinking it was Chad who did this stunt.

Vince Schneider

Ghostface attacks him from behind and stabs him to death. It is later revealed that he was killed because he was the grandson of Stu Macher, one of the two killers of the first Scream.

Judy and Wes Hicks

Sheriff mother and son are killed within minutes of each other. Going out to buy sushi, the woman recommends that her son take a shower after closing the doors of the house tightly. Ghostface calls her, claiming he is already at her house and is ready to kill her son. Judy rushes home and runs to the door screaming to warn her son. Ghostface appears from behind the flower bed and stabs her several times, killing her.

Judy and Wes Hicks

Meanwhile, Wes is taking a shower, with some shots that directly quote the famous scene from the film Psycho. The direction plays with the spectator’s expectations, continuously blocking the view behind the character who prepares the table with doors, doors and furniture. A music full of tension recurs continuously, but nothing happens, frustrating the expectations of the audience.

Wes Hicks

Eventually Ghostface shows up behind Wes near the entrance. The boy reaches out to take the teaser left by his mother, which he removed from his pocket when he returned home. Ghostface pierces his neck slowly and cruelly with the blade, while the boy can barely replicate “fuck you”, drowning in his own blood.

Dwight Linus Riley

The thick death of the film is that of former sheriff Linus. After putting Ghostface offside in the hospital by shooting him and saving Tara and Richie, Linus accompanies Sam, Tara and the boy to the elevator, returning to “shoot him in the head”, mindful of what happened in the fourth film of the saga (Ghostface was wearing a vest bulletproof).

Dwight Linus Riley

At this point, however, Amber (since Richie is in the elevator, it can only be her) has recovered. The girl is probably wearing some kind of protection. Ghostface attacks Linus and knocks him down, stabbing him to death after telling him “Yes it’s today!”.

The reference is to Linus’ gaze, who probably wonders if this will be the day he dies. Amber for the occasion draws a second blade and proclaims that killing Linus “is an honor”.

Liv McKenzie

We don’t clearly see Liv dying, but we don’t see her among the people rescued at the end of the movie either, so it’s likely (but not certain) that she didn’t make it. Chad’s girlfriend is deemed “too boring to be the killer” by Mindy, the group’s horror expert. But when Chad refuses to have sex with her for the first time fearing she might be the killer, he leaves the party in a rage.

Liv McKenzie

He comes back just in time for Amber’s revelation that when Liv says, “I’m not the killer!” he replies: “I believe you Liv, because it’s me” and shoots at her. However, Tara seems to be able to partially deflect the trajectory of the bullet.

Chad and Mindy Meeks

The two twins both survive the attack, suffering damage, all in all, contained. Chad is lured outside the party by a notification from his cell phone, probably cloned by the killers. Liv appears to have accepted her request to share her location with him via GPS all the time, for her safety. Following the signal, however, Chad finds himself in front of Ghostface, who stabs him over and over again, including in the leg.

Chad

Although he struggles to walk, thanks to his physical form Chad runs away. Amber probably prefers not to take risks and returns to await the arrival of Tara and the others, allowing Chad to escape.

Mindy Meeks Scream

Mindy instead is attacked by Ghostface in a clear quote from the first Scream. The girl, a little drunk and lying on the sofa, has just had a fight with Liv. He does not notice the arrival of Ghostface behind him, just as he watches the scene of the first Stab depicting the assault of Randy (Jamie Kennedy) in the first film. The horror-loving guy in turn is watching horror on TV and yells at Jamie Lee’s character Curtis to turn around because she’s about to get hit. Mindy at the last is seized by a scruple of conscience and turns around, catching Ghostface in the act of raising the dagger. He manages to partially dodge the blow and save his life.

Richie Kirsch

The film’s first Ghostface is shot in the leg by Sidney while hiding in the bathroom. This slows him down but doesn’t stop him from stabbing Sam when Sam is pointing the gun at Amber. Sam will be the one to kill him, introducing a new rule: “do not go against the children of killers”.

Richie Kirsch

Sam “frees” his dark side inherited from his father Billy, who in a vision points out to her a knife left on the ground and hidden by a curtain while Richie prepares to give her the coup de grace. Sam stabs him numerous times and, to make sure he’s not pretending to be dead, subsequently shoots him in the chest and head.

Amber Freeman

Amber dies in a particularly grotesque way. While holding Sam, Sidney and Gale hostage in the kitchen, the three manage to escape and pour acetone on her. Amber prepares to fire at them but doesn’t realize the stove has lit behind her. When Sidney and Gale shoot her, she ends up on the burning stove and, due to the acetone, catches fire, screaming wildly.

Amber Freeman

In the final scene, he tries to attack the survivors. His face is badly disfigured by the flame. The revived Tara appears who shoots her in the head and utters the cult phrase of the film: “anyway I still prefer The Babadook”.
