Scream 6: Trailer Analysis “Different” Ghostface, New Stories and Gale Weathers In Danger

Scream 6 is getting closer and to make the wait less heavy (and more interesting!) The new trailer has come to the rescue. A trailer is full of previews which allows us to take a more in-depth look at what seems, to all intents and purposes, a “different” Ghostface. As we know, in this new sequel, Ghostface will sow terror and death in New York, hunting Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega) and their friends. The new installment in the popular slasher franchise marks the return of the iconic Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and another fan-favorite character, Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere). Among posters rich in easter eggs and increasingly detailed references and trailers, we can get a little more precise idea of what awaits us. So, let’s go into the detail of the analysis of the trailer of Scream 6, from March 9 to the cinema.

Scream 6 Trailer

Scream 6: Ghostface Chasing Sam and Tara with A New Weapon

After a brief overview of New York, the Scream 6 trailer opens with a visibly terrified Sam and Tara seeking refuge in a convenience store. Shortly after Ghostface enters, he is bravely (but recklessly) confronted first by a customer and then by the owner of the shop, both of whom meet a bad end. It is clear that the killer has no difficulty acting in a new location and, on the contrary, is even more daring and brazen on the streets of New York. As in the previous five chapters, even here Ghostface does not separate himself from his faithful knife, but in the sequence in the mini market, he steals a rifle from the owner and uses it to kill him.

“There’s something dark inside of me,” Sam says in the new Scream 6 trailer. In the fifth film, it was revealed that Sam is the daughter of Billy Loomis and how this has instilled in her the doubt and fear of having homicidal tendencies. Also in the new film, Sam will continue to live with this sentence, even if it is clear that the threat of which she speaks of her and that has followed her to New York is, in this case, Ghostface. Ghostface will continue to hunt her and has no intention of leaving them alone, even her friends of hers.

Scream 6

While there was no trace of Hayden Panettiere’s character in the teaser, the full trailer for Scream 6 finally shows her to us. After the sequence in which Sam says she is resigned to the fact that the killer will never leave her alone, the trailer cuts to Kirby Reed who reveals: “we have something in common”. Kirby is a survivor too, and she knows all too well that Ghostface doesn’t stop until she’s done his bloody job of her. Kirby Reed is now a police officer and is therefore certainly more prepared to face the killer.

The Ghostface Temple

It is a different Ghostface that we will see in the new sequel, as also confirmed by the words of Kirby Reed. A Ghostface who seems to have taken his way of acting to the next level and who now even has a temple in which several easter eggs from the previous chapters are proudly displayed. The temple, which is located in a disused theater, houses all kinds of objects that belonged to the victims of the previous films, as well as the costumes of past killers. A real museum of horrors, of which Ghostface seems to be proud.

Gale Weathers Gets His First Phone Call

We now come to one of the most apprehensive moments among fans of the franchise: Gale Weathers receiving his first phone call. “Let’s play a game” the killer spells out on the other end of the phone to Gale who seems far from willing to be intimidated. And this is where there is an interesting passage: while Gale is on her phone, the masked killer kills a person who is in the apartment with her. This would seem to suggest that there is more than one masked killer around New York, but it cannot be excluded that it is a deceptive montage, designed to unleash the imagination of the fans. The fact is that the trailer raises some concerns towards the one who was the only historical figure who has never received a disturbing phone call from Ghostface.

Scream 6 Film

If Gale doesn’t seem intimidated by Ghostface’s threats, the masked killer flexes his muscles and declares that he is not like the others, confirming what Kirby Reed anticipated. The trailer would appear to reveal the cards on what appears to be a well-trained, stronger killer with an even darker and more ruthless nature. What we will see in Scream 6 could therefore be the most difficult showdown between the masked killer and the protagonists.

Each Of The New Scream 6 Cast Members Gets a Phone Call

Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, Dermont Mulroney. These are the names that stand out among the new additions to the cast of Scream 6 and each of the three is shown in the trailer while on the phone. All three could therefore be destined to receive a threatening phone call from Ghostface and who knows if one of them is the star of the now iconic opening sequence that characterizes every installation of the franchise.

The Extended Version of The Subway Sequence

The subway sequence (full of references to horror cinema) had already been shown in the teaser trailer of the sixth chapter of the franchise and here we see it in an extended version. Sam, Tara, Josh, and Chad find themselves in a crowded car, full of people dressed for Halloween and, even more disturbing, full of people dressed as Ghostface. In the sequence that closes the trailer we also see Mindy, but it seems that the attack against her takes place when the girl is alone.

Scream 6: Trailer Easter Eggs

As far as we understand, the new chapter of the film could be decidedly different from the others, with a serial killer ready to make everyone tremble even more than the previous ones. From the trailer, it seems to be faced with a mythomaniac of the Stab saga, the one that over the years has been the series of films within the film that told what happened in Woodsboro, the mythical location of the first chapter. Certainly, this is not the first time that we are faced with film references, given that already from the first chapter of Wes Craven the killer Billy Loomis and Stu Macher were horror fans and protagonists of an avalanche of quotations.

Scream 6 Film

The protagonists of Scream VI could be a very numerous series of self-quotations that will retrace the entire franchise. The protagonists of the film will find themselves inside a theater where they will find all the costumes worn by Ghostface and an infinite series of objects from the other films on display. Thus, the dressing gown worn by Stu, Billy’s bloody shirt, Casey’s boyfriend’s jacket, as well as the last dress worn by Tatum will emerge from the first film. Moving on to Scream 2, we will find the white jacket worn by Mrs. Loomis and the mask used in the show that Derek puts on just before he dies. While from the fourth chapter will come a bloody form and the shirt with which Olivia is killed. There will also be room for romance with a photo of Gale together with Linus who died tragically in the last chapter.

Among the most impactful scenes of Scream VI, at least according to the trailer, we find the sequence in the New York subway on what is presumed to be Halloween night. The protagonists are completely immersed in characters from the world of horror from Freddy Kruger to Babadook, from the character of Till death do us part directed by directors Tyler Gillet and Matt Bettinelli Olphin who took the legacy of Wes Craven. There is no shortage of other icons such as Jason Voohrees, Pinhead from Hellraiser, the nun from The Nun and the demon from The Grudge.
