Karan Johar has once again come together with his favorite Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh with his family entertainer film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film has been released today and apart from Ranveer-Alia, the biggest excitement about this film is about the screen presence of veteran actors of their time i.e. Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan. Ever since the song of this film surfaced, people on social media were complaining that ‘that chemistry’ is not visible between Ranveer-Alia which should come in a romantic film. But now this film by Karan Johar has been released and I am going to tell you whether the lack of chemistry and lack of a good entertainer which the audience is feeling is fulfilled or not.
We see him as a non-serious film personality. Who has made some blockbuster but problematic films? Who together with Shah Rukh Khan spoiled the meaning of love for a whole generation. The person who gives fertilizer and water to nepotism in the film industry. However, in the last few years, he criticized the films made by him. But we dismissed it as a PR game. The filmmaker whose USP used to be only grand sets, smoky star cast, expensive-fancy clothes, and good songs. This time he made a film which should have been made. However, it cannot be said about Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani that it is a perfect film. Because perfection is a myth.

Talking about the story, Rocky Randhawa (Ranveer Singh) is a millionaire boy, who has a lot of money and a family business of sweets, of which he has to become the CEO later. Rocky’s grandmother is Dhanalakshmi Randhawa (Jaya Bachchan) whose daughters-in-law put a scarf on her head. Rocky’s grandfather (Dharmendra) remembers Kabhi Aati Hai Kabhi Jaate Hai, Daddy Ji (Aamir Bashir) who handles all the business with his mother. On the other side is Rani Chatterjee (Alia Bhatt), who is a journalist and a well-educated, open-minded girl. Her father (Tota Roy Chowdhary) is a Kathak dancer-teacher and her mother (Churni Ganguly) is a professor of English at DU. Rani’s grandmother is Gemini (Shabana Azmi) who is very open-minded. This background itself explains that these are people coming from two very different backgrounds. But then Rocky falls in love with Rani and this Punjabi turned Bengali girl falls in love.
But before giving this relationship the name of marriage, Rani decides that Rocky will stay with her family, and she will stay with Rocky’s family for 3 months. Now in the meantime, there is cultural exchange and a lot of fun. The story of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is about two people living in Delhi, who are opposite each other. Rocky Randhawa. A boy coming from a wealthy home. The one who never even lit a gas stove in his life. The only purpose of his life is to have fun. That’s why he makes the body. Wear odd clothes. does parties. Can’t speak English. But he speaks. Then because of the backstory of his grandfather, he meets a girl named Rani Chatterjee. Rani is an anchor in a news channel. Rocky looks like a creature to him.
After meeting her for the first time, she keeps laughing for a few seconds. True Talks and meetings start increasing. But Rani is not serious about this thing. Because he feels that the families of both are completely different from each other. There is no match between them. In such a situation, they launch a three-month exchange program to understand each other’s families. This means Rocky will stay at Rani’s house for three months. and Rani, Rocky’s house. In these three months, on most occasions, only comedy happens. The families of both are not ready to accept them. But slowly things start deteriorating. Which seems like the first step toward improvement. First half ends. After that, the real picture starts. These days the judgment has become like Maggi. Makes in two minutes. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Review and Analysis
Director Karan Johar has his way of telling a story and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is no different. Money or expenses are not an issue in this story of the world of the rich. Here the arena is also decorated with lights and colorful style. When Durga Puja takes place, the entire pandal and the people standing in it are all seen dressed in red dress code. Everything is in typical Karan Johar style… but with this, it has to be said that Karan Johar knows what ingredients should be there in a family entertainer film. You will get all that in this film. There are many moments when you laugh a lot, you will also clap. Many such elements in this film make this film worth watching in theatres. But today, seeing so much rich content in OTT, you have become habituated to finding logic and finding loopholes, which many times in this entertainment ride, the light of logic will go off.
Talking about the important film script that came out of Karan Johar‘s quiver, this time Karan Johar has chosen such a topic, on which talks have been going on continuously for some time. While talking about stereotypes, only stereotypes were shown although this film is not flawless. In its story, you will find things disturbing in many places. Especially the entry scene of Alia Bhatt, in which she is seen as a journalist. This scene is very strange and far from reality. It will be digested in the same way as people digested seeing the ‘Student of the Year’ school. The Randhawas have been shown as uncultured, uncultured Punjabis running after money, while the over-minded Bengali listening to Robindra Shongeet. Both these styles show many stereotypes. The first half of the story is full of comedy, while the second half is full of emotions.
Talking about acting, Ranveer Singh has become a typical Delhi-based Punjabi boy, in which he is amazing. Whenever Ranveer is on the screen, no one is seen in front of him. Be it emotional scenes or comedy, his innocence is amazing. Alia looks very beautiful in the film. Although Ranveer has overshadowed him in most of the scenes. You will like the chemistry between Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi and the old songs. Jaya Bachchan has got a lot of screen space in the film, but she will be seen giving you only theory-laden looks everywhere. Ranveer Singh played the role of Rocky in the film. Seeing him in this film, it seems that Ranveer has played a dramatized version of himself. The good thing is that he is not the hero of the film. What the filmmaker wants to say, is a means of conveying it to the audience. There is only one problem with Ranveer. When, where, and what they are doing, every moment’s news is with the public. You see him so much in real life that there is no excitement left to watch his films. Well, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar‘. Which is kinda smart. A family film that every family should watch. So that they will get a little reality check.
Alia Bhatt has played the role of Rani Chatterjee. Alia has done a great job in the entire film. But there are some seconds of her in the song ‘Jhumka’, which for me personally are heavy on the entire film (from 45th seconds to 1:02 minutes). In these 17 seconds, she is doing something different. She is the heroine of the film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. His character is a part of almost all the conflicts of the film. So basically, she keeps the entire film together. Avoiding scattering. Shabana Azmi has played the role of Rani’s mother. Shabana’s character has a direct relation to the plot of the film. Because he has a story of his own, which runs parallel with Rocky-Rani. Jaya Bachchan plays Rocky’s grandmother in the film, who is the head of the family. Her character of Dhanalakshmi seems to be a mixture of ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Just add a little more frustration to it.
Dharmendra appears in a small but important role. He has become Rocky’s grandfather. Dharmendra’s age has come a long way. Despite this, his screen presence is amazing. At the end of the film, he speaks a line, which is also heard in the trailer. This is quite a meta moment. It seems that Dharmendra is reminding himself, not his son, in the film. Many old and memorable songs have been used in the background and playback of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. But they have not been remixed and made a part of the film’s soundtrack. The length of the film is three and a half hours. It can be tightened a little more. There is nothing worth cutting in the second half. But there are many such things in the first half, which could have been cut short.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Review: The Last Words
Even after a lot of exaggerations, Karan Johar‘s film is an entertaining film, which has full power to bring the audience to the theaters and entertain them. Although its length is a bit high and it could have been tightened, especially in the second half. 3 stars for this film from my side. The overall point is that Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a family film. But it is not a problematic film. It is a love story, but it is not misogynistic. We are not saying that Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is one of the great or greatest films. But this is a film that delivers more than expected. This is not a family film with Sooraj Barjatya’s fairy tale. This is Karan Johar‘s slightly less realistic but impressive family film.
