Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: The Upcoming Crossover And The Links Between The Two Series
Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Connection The first crossover between Riverdale and The Terrifying Adventures of Sabrina is around the corner, but there are already many links between the two series.
Shortly after Riverdale’s fifth season finale aired, Kiernan Shipka was announced in the cast of the sixth. The young actress, interpreter of Sabrina Spellman in The Terrifying Adventures of Sabrina, will return to play the role of the witch in Riverdale after the cancellation of the series in which she was the protagonist from 2018 to 2020.
The two series, both developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, are part of the same narrative universe, that of Archie Comics, so the crossover is not a real surprise for viewers. Although The Terrifying Adventures of Sabrina is a horror fantasy series and Riverdale has never really crossed the boundaries of reality, there have been many links between the two shows since the very first episodes.
The long-awaited crossover, which should have taken place already with the fifth season never made of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is just the icing on the cake.
Easter egg and Connections Between The Two Series In Previous Seasons
1. Archie and Betty in the opening theme of The Terrifying Adventures of Sabrina
In the beautiful opening theme of Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina there is the first reference to Riverdale. As Sabrina relaxes in front of the TV, on the screen we see the faces of Betty and Archie in their comic version. At the same time, it is mentioned in the opening credits that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based on the Archie comics.
2. The Poster On The Walls Of Baxter High
Sabrina Spellman attends Baxter High School in Greendale. In a scene from the first season of the witch series we see a poster hanging on the walls of the school that mentions a bowling match between the Riverdale Bulldogs and the Greendale Ravens.
3. Did Ben Button Return From The World Of The Dead?
In an episode of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Madam Satan orders a pizza for dinner. Delivering it to him is none other than Ben Button who should have already died by that point. The boy is in fact already launches from a window in the third season of Riverdale. Maybe Madam Satan orders pizza straight from Hell?
4. Tommy’s Funeral
After the tragic death of Tommy, Harvey’s older brother and Sabrina’s desperate attempt to bring him back to life, the young Kinkle says he doesn’t want the Spellmans to take care of the funeral. So he confesses to Sabrina that the funeral will be held in Riverdale.
5. The Archie Comics Water Bottle
While having lunch with her schoolmates, Sabrina shows off a bottle with an exclusive pattern: the drawing shows the characters of Archie Comics!
6. Jughead Was Here
On one of the shelves in the Baxter High library is a reference to Jughead Jones. Carved in wood, there is the crown that the character wears in the comics and next to it you can read the words “he was here”. It’s proof that Jughead has visited Greendale at least once.
7. The Fatal Sisters at Riverdale High?
Sabrina has always gone out of her way to help her friends. When Theo was in trouble, a victim of bullying school athletes, the witch asked the Fatal Sisters for help. The athletes don’t recognize Agatha, Dorcas and Prudence, so they ask them if they are Riverdale High students.
8. The Afterlife With Archie Comics
In the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina universe, Archie Comics are a reality. In a moment of pure meta-narration, a bit like what happened with Sabrina’s thermos, we see the comics of the Afterlife With Archie series on the shelves of Dr. Cerberus’ library.
9. Sabrina and Ambrose On The Banks Of The Sweetwater River
The River Sweetwater plays a pivotal role in the events of Riverdale’s first season. It is in fact on the banks of the river that Jason Blossom’s body is found. In the second season of The Terrifying Adventures of Sabrina, the protagonist and her cousin Ambrose go near the Sweetwater River that separates the two towns to practice a mystical ritual. The reference to the river returns in the fourth season of CHAOS.
The Strange, the third of the Sinister Horrors conjured up by Father Blackwood, arrives in Greendale through the body of a drowned person in the Sweetwater brought to the Spellman’s morgue.
10. Blossom’s Maple Syrup
In the second part of the series, Sabrina creates her own who has an inordinate passion for sugar and sweets. When the double asks Aunt Hilda to make her a blueberry pancake, we see that they are made even more delicious thanks to maple syrup. This is not just any syrup, it is Blossom’s!
11. Penelope Blossom’s Cameo in CHAOS
In the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3 premiere, Ambrose and Prudence are looking for Father Blackwood. During the reconnaissance, the two use a spell to change their appearance and thus go unnoticed. Prudence then takes on the appearance of another woman, played by Nathalie Boltt who in Riverdale is Penelope Blossom, Cheryl’s mother.
12. Sabrina and Ambrose Visit Riverdale
In the third season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sabrina and Ambrose temporarily leave Greendale to go in search of King Herod’s Crown, which they find in Riverdale. On the road leading to the town, the Spellman cousins pass the welcome sign that reads “JJ was here”. The sentence is again accompanied by the design of the crown that the character wears in his paper counterpart.
In the same episode, there is a second reference to Riverdale: the tree in which Sabrina and Ambrose find the crown belongs to the Blossom plantation.
13. The Reference To The Pop’s Chock ‘Lit Shoppe in CHAOS
The Pop’s Chock ‘lit Shoppe is the hangout for the protagonists of Riverdale, but it is also strange in the universe of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. In the sixth episode of the third season of the series, under the effect of a curse, Hilda asks Dr. Cerberus to bring her one of Pop’s delicious smoothies.
14. The Sex Education Program at Riverdale High
In the premiere of the fourth season of CHAOS, Roz strongly argues for the need to include sex education in the school curriculum. The girl says she knows that other nearby institutions, including Riverdale High, have already set up condom dispensers in the bathrooms.
15. Lucas’ Move to Riverdale
After a slightly too close encounter with the Strange, Lucas Hunt decides to move away from Baxter High to move to the nearby school, Riverdale High.
16. Stonewall Prep Students Traveling To Greendale
In season 4 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, three Riverdale actors make an appearance in Greendale. Sean Depner, Sarah Desjardins and Doralynn Mui appeared on Riverdale as students Bret, Donna and Joan. The three return in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as members of a band called the Stoned Philosophers.
17. The Fred Heads
Before competing against the Stoned Philosophers, Satanic Panic had done so with another band, the Fred Heads. Fred Heads were the band that Archie’s father Fred Andrews was a part of.
18. Adeline Rudolph
Adeline Rudolph plays Agatha in Chilling Adventures, but the same actress appeared in the fifth season of Riverdale as another character, Minerva Marble, Charyl’s romantic interest. With the crossover on the way, could we possibly discover that Minerva is actually Agatha in disguise?
19. Billy Marlin’s Cameo in Riverdale
When Betty interviews students from nearby schools to collect material and write a piece about the Stonewall Prep football team, which is said to be famous for its dirty play. One of the boys interviewed is Billy Marlin, Sabrina’s schoolmate and classmates at Baxter High in Greendale.
