Reina Roja: The New Spanish Suspense Series That You Should Not Miss On Prime Video

Reina Roja is the first book in the successful trilogy by Juan Gómez-Jurado, which continues with Black Wolf, White King, and is the basis for the new Spanish series of crime, suspense, intrigue, and mystery. Starring Vicky Luengo and directed by Koldo Serra, from Money Heist, this is the story of a brilliant woman, a police project, and a case that connects a murder with a kidnapping (related to powerful and privileged people), where she becomes the only person who can find answers and stop the culprit(s). It is a crime and suspense series, where all kinds of secrets come into play and where we learn about a secret police project that revolves around the smartest woman on the entire planet, which gives everything a little touch of science fiction.

On November 8, 2018, the writer Juan Gómez-Jurado presented the novel Reina Roja to Spanish readers, and it became an instant success. Just one year later, the work had already sold more than 250,000 copies and began the birth of a successful trilogy completed with Black Wolf and White King, later adding to this universe the prequels The Patient and Cicatriz. Five years later, Prime Video is preparing the series adaptation of this literary saga, which promises to become one of its great international assets.

Prime Video has shared 8 new images and two posters of the Reina Roja characters, among which we find Vicky Luengo (Riot Riot) and Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), in the shoes of the gifted Antonia Scott and the detective Jon Gutiérrez. These are added to the teaser that the platform released a couple of months ago. There is no trailer for the series yet, but there is a first teaser where we can see a woman, who we assume is the protagonist, immersed in hundreds of red pills, which seems to be an important part of a secret project in which the protagonist participates.

What is Reina Roja About?

Reina Roja is the story of a woman with a powerful mind and an IQ higher than anyone else. This detail puts her on the map of the police, who recruit her to be part of a secret project dedicated to solving complicated crimes. The series synopsis reads: With an IQ of 242, Antonia Scott is officially the smartest person on Earth. Her intelligence earned her the chance to become the “Reina Roja” of a secret and experimental police project, but what seemed like her gift became a curse and she ended up losing everything. When the son of a powerful magnate is found grotesquely murdered in her mansion, and the daughter of the richest man in Spain is kidnapped, the Reina Roja organization is launched. Mentor, Antonia’s former boss, turns to Jon Gutiérrez, a temperamental Basque police officer about to be fired from the force, to reactivate Antonia. The twisted game of cat and mouse in which Jon and Antonia find themselves involved during their investigation will also help them discover that they admire and complement each other almost as much as they irritate each other. Reina Roja is a disturbing and different thriller, in which the city of Madrid is another protagonist, and which combines the urgency and action of the investigation with the juicy and humorous chemistry of its two protagonists.
