Rebel Moon: Netflix Reveals the Release Date of The Film By Zack Snyder
Netflix revealed the release date of Rebel Moon a few hours ago, the sci-fi epic from director Zack Snyder will arrive just in time for Christmas. In these minutes, Netflix has announced the release dates of its most anticipated films for 2023, and in the promotional video uploaded to its own social channels, the platform also provided fans with a first look at Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon.
After being initially thought of as a film in the Star Wars franchise, an idea rejected by Lucasfilm, Snyder finally reworked the story of Rebel Moon to best fit it into his stylistic/narrative universe. Either way, the narrative will follow Kora (Sofia Boutella), a “young woman with a mysterious past,” who embarks on a journey to find help in repelling the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. In doing so, she will assemble a team of seasoned warriors who must work together to liberate her home world.
Rebel Moon Release Date on Netflix
Snyder has openly acknowledged that he believes strongly in Rebel Moon, noting that the transition from Star Wars has allowed him to fully develop his own universe, influenced by his inspirations. “This is me who grew up as a fan of Akira Kurosawa and Star Wars,” Snyder said. “It’s my love of sci-fi and one giant adventure is like no other. My hope is that this also becomes a huge IP and a universe that can be built”. The director also stated that he spent two years building the world of this film.
A project anticipated as far and wide as Zack Snyder’s Star Wars or Dune, Rebel Moon is the reimagining of an idea for a Star Wars film that the author proposed to Lucasfilm before the sale to Disney and which in time more recently has arrived on Netflix after the enormous success achieved by Army of the Dead and its spin-off prequel Army of Thieves. The story, inspired by the cinema of Akira Kurosawa (George Lucas’ original source for the first Star Wars) tells of a female warrior (played by Sofia Boutella) who is sent by her tribe across the known galaxy to recruit, as in The Seven Samurai, a group of brave warriors who fight alongside him to stop the ruthless leader of a cruel galactic empire. Also starring Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Jena Malone, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Skrein and many others.
As far as the cast of the film is concerned, audiences can expect to see a large number of notable actors playing key roles. In addition to Hounsou and Boutella, Rebel Moon also features Charlie Hunnam, Ed Skrein, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Corey Stoll, Anthony Hopkins and Cary Elwes. While many of the actors involved lauded Snyder’s vision for the film, the production didn’t go as smoothly for some of the cast. Hunnam recently admitted that he suffered several serious injuries while filming the sci-fi epic, some of which haunted him for months. “I have an S1 [areas affecting my hips and groin] and an S2 [the back of my thighs] completely blown out and one hundred percent dehydrated,” Hunnam said. “It will take two years to heal, and I have a 40% tear in the ligament on my right side that holds my spine in an unstable position. Rebel Moon debuts on Netflix on December 22nd, 2023.
