Raksha Bandhan Movie Review: Akshay Kumar is one of those actors for whom it is said that they do four films in a year. His last two films Bachchan Pandey and Samrat Prithviraj did not work. Then when it came to known that his next release would be Aanand L Rai’s film ‘Raksha Bandhan’, it was said that he is returning to the cinema with feelings again. ‘Raksha Bandhan’ has been released now. How strong is the film on points like emotion, story, acting etc., we will talk about the same in today’s review?

Raksha Bandhan Movie Review: The Story

The story of the film is set in Chandni Chowk. This Chandni Chowk does not come from Karan Johar’s universe, where the streets are empty. There is a chaat shop in this Chandni Chowk. Its owner is Kedarnath, whom everyone also calls Lala. Golgappas are the specialty of Lala’s shop. But even before that, you see the tagline of his shop chaat khaye, beta paye. As much as he was tempted to see Golgappa, he is disgusted after reading this. Well, Lala’s work, etc. is going well. If there is any problem in his life, then it is that four sisters are kept in the house. Do not live, are kept. All four of them must get married somehow. Whether Lala can get them married or not, during that time he feels some change in himself or not. This is the rough story of the entire film.

Raksha Bandhan Movie Review and Analysis

When the trailer of ‘Raksha Bandhan’ came out, the public was confused. Looking at the trailer, it seemed that the film would live up to the level of emotion. Then hear such dialogues in it that I will settle my daughter in four months. That is, I will get her married. The hero of the story is busy collecting dowry for his sisters. In such a situation, it was felt that daughters are alien wealth, why are they pushing the stereotyped narrative? Amid all this, one thing was trusted, the writers of the film Kanika Dhillon and Himanshu Sharma. Both are sensible people. They will not even show the story of daughters being a burden. Himanshu and Kanika try to take problematic or negotiable things to the extreme through Lala and the characters around her.

The characters of Aanand L Rai’s films are not complete. Nor are typical heroines. They carry their flaws with them. Akshay Kumar’s character Lala is also similar. Will try to take care of his sisters in every possible way. At least as society has taught him. He just doesn’t hear or see anything on the marriage side. The film doesn’t want to expose her flaws as much as it talks about her sacrifices. Vocal for women, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ raises its needle on the ideology that a man is required to make sacrifices for his sisters. It is expected to fire your happiness for them.

During the promotion of Raksha Bandhan, it was said that this is the shortest film of Akshay Kumar’s career. I think any other film could have been spared the honor of this title. In the affair the length of one hour and 50 minutes, the film runs in many places. He should have been a bit firm, both for his characters and his audience. Because of this speed, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ has only a few moments to remember. Some emotional scenes of the film do their work. But they just become something. The rest of the film could not do justice to these parts.

After a long time saw Akshay doing physical comedy. If you must have seen Priyadarshan’s films, then there is no need to tell how his comedy timing is. You will see that here too. Some good emotional scenes came in his part, where he does his work. The roles of his sisters are played by Sadia Khatib, Sahajmin Kaur, Deepika Khanna, and Smriti Shrikant. Unfortunately, his characters were not used properly in the film. This is a big complaint. Something similar is also with Bhumi Pednekar, who played the character of Sapna in the film.  Sapna is Kedarnath’s love interest. By increasing the length of the film, the back-and-forth story of these characters could have been shown differently.

This film entertainingly gives a strong message. Even though this message is old, perhaps it has not reached everyone now and should be reached through this film. When you go out after watching a movie, you bring something. A message along with the faces of Akshay & Sisters who will keep swirling before your eyes. Anand Rai is an amazing storyteller. He is an expert in making family films. This has been proved again. This film has got a U certificate and you can watch it with your family very comfortably.

Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon have written the film wonderfully. Dialogues make you laugh and entertain a lot. The music of the film is also good and fits the pace of the film. The film is of 1 hour 50 minutes and progresses very fast without giving useless knowledge and this is a big master stroke. If you want to watch a neat and clean entertaining film, then definitely watch Raksha Bandhan.

Raksha Bandhan Movie Review: The Last Words

Raksha Bandhan seeks to attack the thinking according to which brother or father takes pride in giving dowry. It believes that I am doing something for my sister or daughter. To an extent, it is also successful in its efforts. But only to an extent, because after a point the writing of the film seems to be confusing in its messaging. Quickly moves from one track to another. This may have been done because of the limited length of the film.
