Predator: Badlands Ending Explained: What Happened To Dek and His Father?
This November 6, 2025, it arrived in Latin American movie theaters “Predator: Badlands”, which introduces us to Dek, a weak and small young predator marginalized by his clan, who is exiled, but not before entrusting him with the impossible mission of hunting the most feared creature that exists. Far from being intimidated, he begins his journey, but in the middle of his path, he meets Thia, a synthetic from Weyland-Yutani who becomes his traveling companion; Together they embark on a dangerous journey in search of the definitive adversary. How did it go? As we have already seen the film, we explain the end of this production that gives something to talk about. It is worth noting that this film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who expands –once again – the Predator universe. This film is his third production in the franchise. The first was “Prey” (2022), while the second was the animated film “Predator: Killer of Killers” (2025).

Predator: Badlands (2025) lands in the franchise with a different proposal: this time, we follow the story from the point of view of a young Predator, Dek, determined to prove that he deserves the honor of his clan. What seemed like a simple test hunt ends up becoming a brutal journey about family, identity, and rebellion… and, of course, laying the groundwork for future installments that could fully connect with the Alien universe. These types of sequences, added during or after the end credits, have been particularly common in superhero and science fiction films since 2008. But other films also include them with increasing frequency. Sometimes they serve to anticipate what is to come in future installments from a saga, presenting new characters or situations. In other cases, on the contrary, they simply serve to close some subplots left open during the footage. There are even times when they are used as an unpretentious gag to bring a last smile to the most patient fans.
Predator: Badlands Ending Explained: What Happened To Dek and His Father?
BEWARE, SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t seen “Predator: Badlands” yet, it’s better not to continue reading this note, because below we will explain the end of the action and science fiction film that shows us the Predator Dek, who aspired to be a warrior, but due to his height and little strength, he is marginalized from his clan and later exiled. Will he be able to become what he wanted so much? He will not be there, as Thia will become his brave traveling companion; Both will face all kinds of adventures that will put their integrity at risk more than once.
An ending that Redefines the Predator
The final stretch of Predator: Badlands leaves Dek, Thia, and little Bud together, not for blood, but for loss and survival. Each one has been separated from their family —due to tragedy or breakup— and they find in the other something more important than the Predator tradition: their own sense of belonging. Dek manages to defeat his father and prove himself, but not by following the rules of cruelty of his species. Thia, for her part, confronts her sister, who has become a ruthless version of what she swore to fight. And Bud, the creature that looked like a pet, ends up being the symbol of that “new clan” that is born between the three of them. The last shot is quite a statement: a ship is approaching. Allies? Hunters? Your next threat? The closure doesn’t close anything… it opens everything.
Dek Breaks the Predator Code
The saga Predator has always played to keep the Predator a mystery. This time, we enter their culture from within, and what we see is not exactly glorious: a society that views pain, empathy, and grief as signs of weakness that must be purged. Dek decides to break that cycle. Respect the honor of combat, yes, but adopt one more “human” idea: the value of protecting your loved ones. His evolution reverses the “lone predator” motto to make him a pack leader, an “alpha” who cares, not crushes. It is a direct blow to the hearts of the Predator: can there be honor without cruelty? Dek thinks so… and Badlands agrees with him.
Dek Is Confused After Kalish Spares His Life
Like Dek, the Weyland-Yutani corporation is also pursuing Kalisk, although for different reasons. When the confrontation between the Predator and this mythical beast arrives, something happens that leaves the protagonist thinking: why was this indestructible being spared his life? Meanwhile, he is captured by Thia’s evil android twin, Tessa, who takes the opportunity to steal almost all of his technology and some of the ship’s equipment. Although it seems like they will get their way, she manages to escape with the help of her friend Thia.

As Tessa seized several of her things, including her shoulder machine gun, Dek must manage to create makeshift organic armor. But in what way? Using his knowledge about the flora and fauna of the planet Genna. There’s a reason he didn’t have to go through all kinds of situations when he arrived! Let’s not forget that when he first set foot in that place, they told him that “everything around him would try to kill him,” and although it was true, he learned about that new world. For this reason, it uses the skins of its prey, paralyzing plants and explosive caterpillars, with the latter it creates bombs; What’s more, it replaces its machine gun with a slug that shoots.
While getting everything ready, the young Predator runs into Bud, who was distraught in the Kalisk nest. At that moment, he realizes that this creature is actually a baby Kalisk, the beast he fought, and then Tessa kidnapped. Understanding everything that is happening, he no longer wants to kill just to achieve glory in his clan, but plans to use all his equipment to remove the synthetic plague from Weyland-Yutani.
From Aspiring Murderer To Righteous Hero
Although Dek manages to finish off the Wyland-Yuitan soldiers, the corporation is not willing to give in, so Tessa tries to finish him off; However, in a heroic act, the slug that accompanied him and served as the Predator‘s weapon sacrifices itself so that they do not harm him. At that moment, Thia and Bud manage to free the Kalisk that faces the gigantic machine, which they manage to defeat, at least that’s what we believe. After that, the mythical being devours Tessa, but this evil synthetic decides that her end will come with Kalisk, so she proceeds to use the cryopumps that she stole from Dek, which she explodes from within. In this way, the creature that everyone thought was indestructible and invincible dies. Meanwhile, Dek, Thia, and Bud finish off Tessa forever. What’s more, Bud comes to his mother by ripping off her head.
What Happened To Dek And His Father?
Taking into account that Kalisk was the most powerful creature to defeat, but it was defeated by Tessa, who in turn was finished off by Desk and his team, the head of this synthetic becomes a very valuable trophy. Thus, the young Predator confronts his father about the death of his brother, but he does not want to accept him as a son, which causes a lot of tension and a fight. Dek shows that he is now the best fighter, but when it is time to give the final blow to his father, Bud intervenes, ripping off the head of the arrogant and proud being.
Connections with Alien and the Future of the Saga
The closure leaves very clear clues as to where this universe can expand. The approaching ship could be Dek’s mother’s… or characters seen in recent installments, such as Predator: Killer of Killers. This could finally unite the plots in a great internal crossover within the franchise. But the juiciest thing for fans is another detail: with Disney unifying licenses, this film further strengthens that Predator and Alien officially exist in the same cinematic universe. The shadow of Weyland-Yutani and computer systems like MU/TH/UR feels close, ready to come into play. The conclusion? There’s room for a Dek-centric Predator trilogy, and the board is set for xenomorphs and predators to cross paths again… this time with recurring heroes.
The True Meaning of Badlands?
Beneath wild creatures, combat, and green blood, the film beats for a very simple and universal theme: the family you choose. Dek, Thia, and Bud are three emotional orphans, rejected or broken by those who should have cared for them. Instead of repeating the violence they received, they chose to create something new: a group that supports, protects, and rebuilds. More than an adrenaline bath, Predator: Badlands proposes a paradigm shift in the franchise: you don’t have to hunt to be the strongest. Sometimes what makes you invincible is not facing the world alone.
A Sequel On The Way?
The finale of “Predator: Badlands” culminates with a preview of the sequel. Yes, the film will have a sequel. When Dek and his clan, made up of Thia and Bud, see a ship approaching on the horizon, the young Predator is convinced that it is someone powerful, which he considers his greatest challenge: his mother. In this way, we prepare for what will be a new film in which we will see The Return of Dek. Not only that, the Weyland-Yutani corporation will return to seeking revenge after its failed mission.
