One of the most loved family drama Potluck Season 2 arrived on the SonyLiv platform. There is not much content to watch with family on OTT. Family dramas, which tell the story of the whole family, are few. In such a situation, the web series Potluck 2 on Sony Liv comes in front of you like a family pack. The second season of Potluck has come about one and a half years after September 2021 and entertains more or less like the first. Potluck is reminiscent of television sitcom shows, often featuring the same characters and select locations in each episode. But incidents differ. Potluck is an English word, which means some families cook food in their own kitchen and then everyone gathers at one place and enjoys the food together. In this web series, there is a potluck event of the Shastri family.
Potluck Season 2 Review: The Story Plot
Akanksha Shastri (Ira Dubey) has got a new job. Vikrant Shastri (Cyrus Sahukar) works from home and takes care of the kids. Dhruv Shastri (Harman Singha) suffers a career setback. Govind Shastri (Jatin Kapoor) has taken up a new hobby and Pramila Shastri (Kittu Gidwani) wants to participate in a beauty pageant. The relationship between Prerna Shastri (Shikha Talsania) and Aalim (Siddharth Karnik) is also going through ups and downs.
If you rewind to the first season of Potluck, you will find that the Shastri family does not stay together. Senior Shastri (Jatin Sayal) is retired and lives in a big house with his wife Pramila (Kitu Gidwani). Two sons are married. Elder son-daughter-in-law, Vikrant-Akanksha (Cyrus Sahukar-Ira Dubey) has three children including twins. The younger son Dhruv’s (Harman Singha) wife Nidhi (Saloni Khanna Patel) does not like children and is employed. In this season, Dhruv got a job in America, but he did not go because of his father’s fear of heart attack. Shastri’s daughter Prerna (Shikha Talsania) used to work in Kolkata but has now returned home. The story tells that in order to bring the children under one roof, senior Shastri pretended to have a heart attack. Then it was arranged that the whole family would meet every weekend at the house of both the sons and senior Shastri.
Potluck Season 2 Review and Analysis
Potluck Season 2 consists of eight episodes. The highlight of the second season is Pramila’s tryouts for the beauty pageant. In view of their age at which he is, his decision seems strange to others. They consider it a midlife crisis, but Pramila argues that she has never done anything for herself and now wants to do something on her own. This plot is not new. Such stories have been seen in various series or films when after age the hero or heroine wants to do something different, which gives him satisfaction, but the world finds it strange. At that stage of age, the heroine wants to struggle for her identity.
The mood of the series is funny, so the situations that seem serious have also been presented in a light-hearted manner, which is supported by the dialogues. The dialogues do not let the scenes get boring, nor does the tone remain didactic. Dhruv’s plot has also become important in this season, big changes are coming in his life. Her seemingly perfect life is not the same and she has to start afresh. Here the importance of family comes to the fore in difficult times. Director Rajshree Ojha has created a world in which everyone is trying to move ahead in their lives, with their biggest support being their families. The situations and characters are largely relatable. The time limit of an episode is approximately 25 minutes. The series can be easily binge-watched.
The second season of Old Family, New Trek also follows the lines of the first season, and everyone has their own problems. Dhruv has lost his job, but the husband and wife have earned so much money that there is no problem with finance. The problem is what should Dhruv do? Fulfill his dreams of a new job or opening a food joint and making new recipes. On the other hand, Akanksha has also joined a new job, but she sees that a whole new generation has come to the fore. In front of him, the young mother of three children is considered very old. She is struggling to join the world of those youth. There is a trek Pramila and this time throughout the story she is trying her hand at the beauty pageant to be held in the club. Family members have different opinions on this. Due to this tension also arises. Amidst all this, Prerna started completing her novel and her love life has come to a halt here.
The new characters in the center and all the actors work great here. Last time the story was woven keeping Shikha Talsania in the center along with Cyrus Sahukar and Ira Dubey. This time in the center is Kittu Gidwani, Harman Singha, and Saloni Khanna Patel. But the rest have also kept their roles alive. The characters have been created well and the screenplay is also tight. Many dialogues are cheeky and are successful in making laugh. A few new characters have also appeared in this season but in their limited roles. The track of the story of the relationship between Nidhi (Saloni Khanna Patel) and her mother is interesting.
Potluck Season 2 Review: The Last Words
Overall, Potluck Season 2 is a family drama with comedy and a touch of romance. This comedy brings out the sour-sweet things in the relationship between husband-wife, brother-sister, and parents and makes it emotional in many places. The series consists of eight episodes and each average 20 to 22 minutes in length. That’s why it is also easy to see. If you want to take small breaks in the midst of your busyness, then Potluck is effective for this. It Fred the mood. Although the edge of the second season is slightly less as compared to the first season, despite this the series entertains. If you have seen the first season then you must watch the second one. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is a good series to watch with your family.
