Not only did the latest episode of Peacemaker deliver everything it promised, it solidifies the character alongside the entire DCEU pantheon in impressive fashion. You can even complain about the direction of James Gunn, but the director got it right here in the same way as he did in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, bringing quality content, full of emotion and epic scenes.

Peacemaker Episode 8 Review

In this grand finale, the group is focused on the objective of destroying the “cow”, responsible for feeding an alien race here on planet Earth. This onslaught is worthy of the best action movies he’s seen in recent years, bringing a lot of shooting, beating and bombing to its outcome. Not content with the battle against the White Dragon in the previous episode, they now confront an entire species that is up against the wall at risk of extinction.

Peacemaker Episode 8 Review and Analysis

In the last reviews I even commented that I feared that the content would be more oriented to drama and action scenes, but forget about that. The humor and absurd scenes typical of the beginning of the season have returned and help give more depth to certain characters, skipping that entire typical Mexican soap opera mood and getting everything back on track in a few dialogues. And don’t think they don’t roll, because we have some very important ones, but time is not wasted unnecessarily and this was executed excellently.

I have to commend both DC and Warner for putting some nice money into this end of The Peacemaker, ensuring scenes that are impressive and don’t sound too weird compared to the situation itself in general. The DCEU’s first official series is not only one of the best materials seen on HBO Max, it also enters the hall of the superhero cinematic universe itself.

If we compare it to Marvel, I dare even say that it surpasses award-winning and fan acclaimed material. Let’s face it, if Guardians of the Galaxy is praised to this day, here you find the same spirit and still have the freedom to be able to express themselves in a way that doesn’t get tied to the indicative rating. I’d love to drop a spoiler for you, which I won’t, but nowhere will you see a certain cameo that was promised to swear as clearly as it does here. It’s the kind of scene where you stop and think it was worth it.

And speaking of spoilers, I advise you to skip social media until you can watch the episode. Not that there’s much going on, with him completely focusing on the final battle and its aftermath. However, there is such a participation of the DC Universe and some factors that will generate surprises for those who have followed this far. It’s for the same reason that we’re not going to focus so much on the plot, which is great, but on the production.

This facilitates the understanding that it only serves to offer the necessary endings for the plot to be tied. Although a second season has already been announced, here they don’t focus on that and we have to agree that this is very important to not leave those loose ends that bother everyone. Far from the studio’s shackles, we don’t have an episode here that opens more narratives than closes them. The fanservice exists, but it is well contained.

One of the coolest parts was Peacemaker’s own reassessment of his motivations. When we saw him in The Suicide Squad, he was a responsible character capable of killing everyone to achieve his goal. When the series ends, this no longer becomes the case. Is peace really something that must be sought at any cost or is it worth other attributions? Another character that finally gains a bigger dimension and has its importance in it is Economus. After being left out for seven full episodes, reduced to comic scenes and making mistakes for the team, at least in the last one he gets it right and demonstrates his importance within the cast. You can watch and even disagree, but apart from John Cena himself, he is the other star of the grand finale.

And want to know what that means for the future of the DCEU? Pardon the word, m#rd@ none. James Gunn didn’t even have that intention, if we stop to analyze everything. It’s not like the Marvel Cinematic Universe that feels obliged to pull excess elements from other productions. The series is only meant to be fun and bring to light a character neglected by its publisher. And in these two factors, she gets it right in a grandiose way.

With no pretensions, weight of the studio on his back and with a handful of tertiary characters, this was the formula for success that is repeated in the hand of the legendary director. The cast also acted spectacularly and I dare say there is even room for tears in this last chapter, showing that with the right actors we can care about any character that appears on screen. Do I want more of this? Certainly however, let’s remain light and without putting the weight of hype that the trip will remain spectacular.

Peacemaker Episode 8 Review: The Last Words

An ending that rises to the occasion, with some really brilliant moments and some less successful sections. But overall, the series has given us a great time. The action choreographies and the most “meaningful” montage, which comes to excite. The most insider jokes of DC.
