Parasyte: The Grey: First Look At Netflix’s New Korean Series

First announced last year, Parasyte: The Gray will feature an entirely new story and setting. Netflix teased the upcoming series as follows: ” Parasitic lifeforms that live off human hosts seek to increase their power and disrupt society. A group of humans battle against growing evil.”

Parasyte: The Gray does not yet have a release date or window with Netflix at the time of writing. Among the cast members announced are protagonist Jeon So-nee, who plays Jeong Su-in, a character possessed by an alien parasite with whom she forms a strange relationship when she fails to take over his brain. Then there’s Koo Kyo-hwan as Seol Kang-woo, described by Netflix as a character “who tracks down parasites to find his missing sister.” Finally, there’s Lee Jung-hyun as Choi Jun-Kyung, a character described as “the leader of ‘Team Grey’, a task force that fights parasites.” Having lost her husband to these invasive life forms, he is dedicated to their elimination.”

Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Jung-hyun star in the adaptation. Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan, Peninsula) directs the project and writes the screenplay together with Ryu Yong-jae (Peninsula, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area). The upcoming production is based on the manga but will tell a new story. Jeon plays a character who has been attacked by the Parasites but is not mind-controlled by them and strangely coexists with them. Koo’s character is trying to find her missing younger sister. Lee plays the leader of The Grey, a special forces unit fighting the Parasites and whose husband was killed by them.

The original manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki was published in installments in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine from 1990 to 1995. The manga takes place in a world where alien beings called Parasites arrive on Earth and begin to take over humans by entering through the nose and from their ears and attaching to their brains. An alien called Migi is only able to take over high school student Shinichi Izumi’s right arm and is unable to control it fully. Migi and Shinichi learn to coexist and the two fight against other Parasites who only see humans as food. The manga recently inspired a television anime adaptation in 2014 and two live-action films in 2014 and 2015. The anime is distributed by Dynit in Italy under the title Kiseiju: The Uninvited Guest.

Parasyte: The Grey Netflix Release Date?

With filming over and the series deep into post-production, we expect to see the series on Netflix soon. We expect the K-drama to be released on Netflix sometime in the summer of 2024. There’s a chance we could see an earlier release in the Spring, but no news or preliminary release dates suggest otherwise.
