The first teaser trailer for the HBO series is based on a true story
HBO Max has released online the first teaser trailer of Our Flag Means Death a pirate series inspired by a true story produced, interpreted and directed (the plot is shot by the New Zealand director) by Taika Waititi. The protagonist of the story is Rhys Darby in the role of Stede Bonnet, a gentleman farmer who grew up in a wealthy family facing a midlife crisis; will decide to become the captain of the Revenge, a pirate ship at the beginning of the eighteenth century. The pirate series is created by David Jenkins, who will be showrunner, Garrett Basch and Dan Halstead. The cast also includes Leslie Jones, Nat Faxon, Ewen Bremmer, David Fane, Nathan Foad, Joel Fry, Samson Kayo, Guz Khan, Rory Kinnear, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neil and Vico Ortiz.

The series is inspired by the story of Bonnet, a landowner who then turned to crime by stepping into action as a pirate, traveling with his crew in the area that is now part of the United States, attacking other ships and burning some vessels. Waititi will then join Rhys Darby, with whom he previously collaborated on Life as a Vampire – What We Do In The Shadows and Flight of the Conchords, in the upcoming comedy for the WarnerMedia streaming service. Other producers in the series also include Garret Basch and Don Halsted. At the announcement of the entry into the cast of the New Zealand director and actor, the showrunner of the project David Jenkins had declared: “Our Blackbeard is a legend, a lover, a fighter, a genius of tactics, a poetic and probably almost crazy soul. Only one man could play this role and it is the great Taika Waititi. We are incredibly thrilled that he has decided to play the role”
