One Piece: Who Are The Actors Of Netflis’s Live-Action Drama A Cast That We Like

By putting our dreams together we will go in search of our desires – We Are!” These are the words that in 1999 introduced viewers to the world of ONE PIECE those of the historic opening of the anime based on the manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, whose publication began just two years earlier on the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump. It was the first attempt to bring to the screen the incredible adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, the boy who dreamed of becoming the King of the Pirates and, twenty-two years later, here we are trying again to spread the magic of that work, this time in live-action format.

One Piece

In development for several years now, the Netflix series Western production has only recently made known its first performers (the announcement of the cast of the live-action ONE PIECE dates back just a few hours ago) the original members of the Mugiwara crew , and there is still a long way to go . But, in the meantime, let’s take a closer look at who will lend their faces to the members of the craziest crew there is.

One Piece: Who Are The Actors

Iñaki Godoy – Luffy

Born in 2003, just turned 18 and energy to spare: this is how the young Mexican actor chosen to play the protagonist of the live-action Netflix presents himself and, at least judging by the short introduction video of the cast posted on the various official accounts, the role of the curious and hyperactive Captain seems to fit him perfectly.

Iñaki Godoy – Luffy

Although with little experience behind him in terms of internationally known projects (we remember him mainly in the part of Bruno in the Netflix series What happened to Sara) Godoy has actually already taken part in several TV series in Spanish , including Sin miedo a la verdad (in which he starred in 11 episodes) and La querida del Centauro (where he appears for 128 episodes). Considering also the probable long duration of the Netflix transposition, which if successful will accompany us for years and years to come, it can be said that we will literally see it grow on the screen, as indeed also the other young performers announced so far.

Mackenyu – Zoro

Speaking of the other leading actors, where Luffy is there can only be Zoro and the skilled swordsman of the live-action Netflix will not be played by Lewis Tan as some fans of ONE PIECE wanted, but by Mackenyu. The Japanese-born American, son of the late actor and martial arts expert Sonny Chiba, is a familiar face on the big and small screen, both in the West and in the East.

Mackenyu – Zoro

At 25 we have already seen him in numerous productions of various genres, including other live-action adaptations such as those of ChihayafuruGunjou Senki and Tokyo Ghoul but also in an American blockbuster such as Pacific Rim: The Uprising (here our review of Pacific Rim La Rivolta). With different types of roles and a similar background behind him, it’s hard to think that he can disappoint in the role of what is practically the deputy captain of the Straw Hat Crew.

Emily Rudd – Nami

Probably the most renowned among the performers announced so far, and for some time the most popular to grab the role of the beautiful navigator, Emily Rudd has been confirmed as the interpreter of Nami to the delight of those who shouted her casting out loud.

Emily Rudd – Nami

At 28, the American actress is technically the oldest of the group and she began her adventure on the screen by participating in music videos (like Touch by 3LAU feat. Luciana, or I had this thing by Röyksopp) to then move on to TV, where we have been able to admire it in series such as The RomanoffsDynasty and soon also in Hunters. Most recently she took part in the Netflix horror film trilogy Fear Street as Cindy BermanRudd certainly has the stage presence and charisma to bring the crafty East Blue cat thief to life and we have no doubt he can give us a great acting performance.

Usopp – Jacob Gibson

In addition to the fact that he is obviously very young, it is not known exactly what his age is but between 2018 and 2020 he appeared on television in well-known serial products such as All RiseThe Resident and ABC ‘s long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and although these were fleeting appearances (lasting one episode each), these led to him appearing in as many as fifteen episodes between the fourth and fifth seasons of the aforementioned Oprah Winfrey Network show, Greenleaf. Whether or not the first impressions of Gibson will be confirmed or not obviously remains to be assessed, but for the moment it seems to be a pretty solid choice.

Taz Skylar – Sanji

Finally, we arrive at the last member of the crew announced in the past few hours, and perhaps also the most discussed on the web so far: Taz Skylar. The 25-year-old actor from Tenerife immediately caught the attention of fans for a rather simple reason, his resemblance to a certain world-famous rapper. Within minutes it became viral that the actor chosen to play the Mugiwara cook remembered a lot of Eminem, leading some to say that, at least visually, he could not fit the role. But in reality from a purely physical point of view Skylar would not be at all bad in the role of the womanizer chef, it would be enough to add a blond tuft and curled eyebrows … And as for talent, the boy comes from the theater (the show Warheads of which he is an actor, screenwriter and producer, has also received a nomination for the prestigious Olivier Award), but he we also saw at the cinema in The Kill Team with Alexander SkarsgArd and Natt Wolff, in Villain, with Craig Fairbrass and George Russo, as well as in Boiling Point with Stephen Graham. And something tells us it could really be one of the revelations of Netflix live-action.

Taz Skylar - Sanji

These, therefore, the actors who managed to conquer the production of the show which, together with Oda, searched far and wide across the seven seas for those who were closest to the characters born from the mangaka’s imagination (as he kept us in reiterate Eiichiro Oda himself at the announcement of the cast of ONE PIECE) and that they were able to materialize in flesh and blood, with a little help from make-up, costumes and special effects, the heroes of the crazy world of ONE PIECE with their incredible dreams.
