One Piece Netflix: Here Are the Episode Titles and Their Possible Meanings
The titles of the episodes of the TV series One Piece for Netflix have emerged online, the first trailer of which has been explored in detail in our One Piece Netflix study, the easter eggs of the trailer that you may not have noticed. The TV series will consist of a total of 8 episodes lasting one hour each and the debut is set for August 31, 2023. Romance Dawn will be the saga covering the first interaction with flesh and blood and Western actors of the adaptation inspired by the acclaimed manga written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Episode titles are confirmed; however, the order may not be true. For now, let’s try to understand their possible meanings to have a first preview of what will be presented once the ship sets sail.
One Piece Netflix: Here Are the Titles of The Episodes and Their Possible Meanings
Romance Dawn
Being the title of the manga’s first episode, it is clear that the TV series also follows the same plot.
Therefore, it is easy to assume that the episode adapts the events of the same chapter, among others the moment in which Luffy (Inaki Godoy) eats the devil fruit “Gom Gom”, Shanks “The Red” (Peter Gadiot) while saving Luffy from king of the sea by losing an arm, the brief confrontation with the pirate Alvida (Ilia Soleys Paulino) and the knowledge of Koby (Morgan Davies). The episode could end with the arrival of Luffy and Koby at the base of Captain Morgan (Langley Kirkwood), an event that will introduce the first true companion of his long journey, Zoro (Mackenyu “Arata” Maeda).
The Man with The Straw Hat
The episode is probably set in Orange Town, a village occupied by Buggy “The Clown” (Jeff Ward) whose inhabitants have left to escape the madness of the future emperor of the seas.
The title features “Straw Hat“, so Shanks could be integral to the scenes through his connection to Buggy, a one-time fellow soldier on Gol D. Roger’s ship. Consequently, Nami (Emily Rudd), a determining factor in the defeat of the pirate clown, will most likely be introduced in the scenes.
Tell No Tales
This title could potentially refer to the adaptation of the narrative arc of Arlong (Mckinley Belcher), a prominent enemy of the deepening of the character of Nami.
In this episode Nami, exactly as it happens in the manga, feigns affiliation with the enemy, almost fatally wounding Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson). It is quite plausible that the production will resort to more playing time to cover this memorable glimpse of One Piece, in particular with the episode “The Girl With The Sawfish Tattoo“.
The Pirates Are Coming
After Buggy’s defeat, the scenario passes toward Usopp, the next member to join the crew. The episode could therefore be set in the Syrup village, the sniper’s hometown, within which the adaptation of his past is likely. Consequently, if confirmed, the battle against the enemy of the village, Kuro (Alexander Maniatis), would be guaranteed.
Eat At Baratie!
The Baratie is the seaside restaurant run by the ex-pirate Zeff (Craig Fairbrass) and is the place where Sanji (Taz Skylar) gets to know each other. Therefore, it is quite likely that the in-depth arc of Sanji will be revealed as well as the introduction of the main antagonist, Don Krieg (Milton Schorr), who aims to turn the restaurant into his new means of travel. The brutal defeat of Zoro at the hands of Mihawk (Steven Ward), which appeared in chapter 52 of the manga, is likely to appear, even in a short segment, when the former promises Luffy in tears that he will never lose again.
The Chef And The Chore Boy
In this space, the second and last part of the study on Sanji al Baratie could be consumed. The battle will be concluded with the entry of the cook into the crew aimed at achieving his dream, the All Blue.
The Girl with The Sawfish Tattoo
The title is a clear reference to Nami’s tattoo, so as mentioned, it would refer to the second part of the Arlong Fishman-focused story arc. The episode can be the stage for the sad past of Nami who, already an orphan, saw her adoptive mother, Bellmer, die under the blows of Arlong himself. This episode could therefore close the circle on the ghosts of Nami’s past and reproduce the iconic scene from chapter 81 of the manga in which Nami asks Luffy for help in tears.
Luffy will willingly accept, as befits his character, and furious with anger, after learning the past of his partner, he will get rid of the terrible enemy. According to what was released by accredited online personalities attached to the official One Piece website, the iconic scene just mentioned would have been realized also in the live-action and Eiichiro Oda appreciated its execution, calling it perfect.
Worst In The East
It could be the final episode whose title is inspired by chapter 96 of the manga, or “The Meanest Man in the East“. This is the first chapter of the narrative arc of Logue Town (Oda was inspired by Florence for the architecture of the island) and in this chapter, everyone learns, including Shanks “Il Rosso”, Mihawk and the upper floors of the Navy HQ, Luffy‘s latest actions resulting in a bounty of 30 million Berry (the currency in the One Piece world). Becoming, in fact, the worst of the eastern sea.
This makes Luffy exalt himself because his size makes him closer to the dream of being a pirate of excellence. The chapter ends with the landing of Luffy’s pirates on the aforementioned island, also known for being the birthplace and the gallows of Gol D. Roger. What better moment to close the first part than Logue Town, a transitional parenthesis, but once finished, it launches the pirates towards the Rotta Maggiore (for this reason the citadel is also defined as the island of the beginning and the end), the first real step towards the wild world of pirates that anticipates the New World.
