OMG 2 (Oh My God!) is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language satirical comedy-drama film written and directed by Amit Rai. It is a spiritual sequel to OMG – Oh My God! (2012). The film stars Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, and Aamir Naik. It follows the story of a man who files a lawsuit against the Indian government for not providing comprehensive sex education in schools. The film has been praised for its bold and progressive message and its strong performances. Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi give two of the best performances of their careers, and Yami Gautam is also excellent. The film’s message about the importance of sex education is timely and essential, and it is delivered in a funny and thought-provoking way. However, the film does have some flaws. The courtroom scenes can be a bit slow-paced, and the film’s message can be a bit heavy-handed at times. Overall, though, OMG 2 is a well-made and vital film that is sure to spark some debate.

OMG 2 Review
OMG 2 Review

Akshay Kumar’s film OMG 2 has been released. Before proceeding further in the review, I would like to correct this sentence. OMG 2 is not Akshay’s film, at least as a hero. This film is by writer and director Amit Rai. If the film is to be recognized by the actors, then this film is of artists like Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. Akshay’s credit is not being dismissed. This is not just the film of Akshay Kumar, the superstar. And this is also its biggest victory. The censor board had asked to have 27 cuts, yet you will not miss anything in this movie. Before the release of the movie, those protesting after watching the movie will think about whether to protest or leave, although they will think even if they support it.

OMG 2 Review: The Story Plot

The story opens in the city of Mahakal. Kanti has a shop in that city. He considers Shiva as his deity. He is living a happy life with his wife and two children. It is worth noting here that his son Vivek and daughter study in different schools. Vivek studies in the biggest English medium school in the city. One day a call came from the same son’s school. School people say that your son has done a shameful act. It is taken out. What the son did goes viral in the whole city. Kanti reaches the door of the court for the honor of his son and for the naked truth. In the next two-and-a-half-hour film, we come across many conservative beliefs and important things that happen secretly.

The story follows Vivek (Aarush Sharma), the teenage son of Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi), the supreme devotee of Mahakal. Vivek, who is fast in reading and writing and is ahead in cultural programs, after being mocked about his gender and sexuality, takes medicine from quacks and overdoes masturbation and he has to be admitted to the hospital. But in the meantime, his work done in school has been made viral. Not only is he expelled from school, but his entire family has to face shame in society and the city. Now the family is left with no option but to leave the city, while Vivek tries to take his own life out of shame, but only then Lord Shiva is pleased, and his messenger (Akshay Kumar) comes and shows Kanti the way.

Kanti’s eyes open and he files a case against the school for mental harassment of her son and to save him from social embarrassment. He engages in the exercise of having sex education compulsory in educational institutions by holding the school and himself responsible for the sexual ignorance of his son. He wanted the people responsible for his son’s condition to apologize to him and take back his honor in the school. The school hires sharp-tongued lawyer Kamini Maheshwari (Yami Gautam) to defend them, which itself considers masturbation a dirty and immoral act. Both present their respective sides in front of Judge Puroshattam Nagar (Pawan Malhotra). Kanti argues that sex education should be taught in its true form without any cover or gimmick while Kamini believes that this is not possible in a civilized society. In whose favor does the court decide? You will have to watch the film to find out this.

OMG 2 Review and Analysis

Usually, sequels don’t live up to the shadow of the first part, but here the writer-director is seen with a fresh approach. In the film, which was released on August 11, the director handles a taboo subject like sex sensibly and logically without being vulgar, adding a dash of comedy to it. The story also sounds interesting because it all takes place in a desi setting with a middle-class family, where Kanti is also the father of a teenage son and daughter. The director has to be appreciated that he has established this issue between father and son in the family. Due to the cuts of the censor board, there is a jump in the references in the film. At the beginning of the film, the director takes some time to establish the story, but then the story takes its pace.

In the second half, the story again slows down a bit, but the courtroom drama proves to be effective. Kanti’s reference to the books Kamasutra and Panchatantra in the court and the argument that today when porn is available on the internet, then why sex cannot be taught as a science in schools, seems effective. Talking about the music and technical side, the run time of the film could have been reduced a bit. Had the music been more impressive, it would have been fun. Although the song ‘Har Har Mahadev’ in the music of Vikram Montessori has become good. Its choreography is also visible. The climax of the film is comforting.

Talking about acting, it is Pankaj Tripathi’s film from every angle. This role must have been very difficult for him in terms of execution, because a religious milieu and a small-town devotee standing up against the society in the court for his son on his sexual act is very bold, but Pankaj’s easy-going Malwa’s acting, and dialect make his character and issue visible. Akshay Kumar as Shiva’s messenger is perfect in every way. His presence, dialogue delivery, and looks add to the fun of the character. Yami Gautam has done full justice to her role as a lawyer. Fellow artists have given good support. Arun Govil as the school owner, Brijendra Kala as the doctor, and Govind Namdev as the priest have done a good job. Pawan Malhotra is remembered in the role of a judge. His character is a lot of fun. The other supporting cast is also strong.

OMG 2 has used the star power of Akshay Kumar very judiciously. The film is made on a sensible subject. Must reach people. For this purpose, the star became its face. But the shadow of that face does not cover the real hero – that is the story of the film and its handling of its topic with sensitivity. At no point does Akshay seem to overshadow the story. They do the work of taking the wheel of the story forward. But the rest of the characters are pushing that wheel. Unnecessary footage was not given to Akshay’s character. He did a good job too. Looks funny in some scenes. His dialogue delivery in serious scenes is correct, not stilted. The world is about to build a colony on Mars. Automatic vehicles are running. Here we hesitate to talk about the most personal, the most intimate. The pallu of the woman gets buried in the mouth. Men start rolling their eyes. He puts his hands on the children’s ears.

This has become our public reaction upon hearing the word sex. If this is the situation on listening to sex, then there will be no talk on his education. There is a line in the film that from the birth of a human being to his death, sex plays a role everywhere. Still, we do not want to keep awareness about it. Calling our genitals, a private part, they just want to keep their information private. The film talks about such points. This has happened in other films too, so what’s new in OMG 2OMG 2 does not want to move forward by spreading knowledge on sex education. It does not try to preach on any point. Nor does she make her subject a laughingstock. She fully understands its seriousness. It is not that there is no humor in the film. There is a lot of humor, and he also lands. Be it court scenes or Kanti’s inability to understand English. But not a single joke lets the messaging of the film down.

The film begins with social myths related to sex. If you do this, this will happen. If you don’t do this, then such type of things will happen. Even though these things seem like a joke after an age. But at one point in life, such things scared all of us. Then even if such things have been told by the tutor’s friend. Or any senior of the school. Insecurity arises from such myths that I did something wrong. I’m not a proper person. The film touches on all such points. She also tries to answer in her way. There are also some flaws in the film. Like its mild climax. The story closes very peacefully by going to the high point. But it does not emerge as such a big drawback that the film should be rejected.

After the subject, let’s talk about the actors. Pankaj Tripathi, who became Kanti, did not just catch the accent of his character. He also understood her innocence. A man who first fights his myths, his prejudices and then faces the world. Pankaj Tripathi does not let his character get stale. He fights the case with strength. There is fun in the story only when the hero gets equal competition. Yami Gautam played the character of Kamini. She is fighting the case in front of Kanti. Yami Gautam carried her character in such a way that as soon as she entered the room, everyone stopped and listened to her. Kamini gives all those arguments which are buried in our minds. We speak out of fear of being judged. Which seems correct to most of us. Yami’s presence is strong. She looks confident in the shoes of this character. Here I noticed one more thing. I Saw ‘Rocky and Rani Kii Prem Kahani’ a few days back. There Jaya Bachchan’s character and the values derived from her patriarchal thinking are the enemies of Rocky and Rani. Kamini in OMG also represents the same thinking, who wants to keep topics like sex covered only in the veil. Both these films showed that patriarchy is not only affecting men.

OMG 2 Review: The Last Words

OMG 2” starring Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Kumar, and Yami Gautam is a must-watch entertaining film on an important and socially relevant subject. The film aims to present a logical and responsible perspective on the importance of sex education in school, which is important to bring about a change in society. OMG 2 is clashing with a big film like Gadar 2. The appeal of both films is completely different from each other. Only one thing is common. Must be seen with both families. Yes, one more thing. OMG 2 has a funny reference to ‘Gadar’. You will be able to spot it only after watching the film. Whether this was done intentionally or unintentionally, only the makers know.
