In 2005, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the last chapter of the prequel trilogy, was released in cinemas. The series is now set ten years after the film’s events and shows the aftermath of the fall of the Jedi Order and the republic. The galactic empire rules unchallenged under the leadership of Palpatine and the iron fist of Darth Vader. The latter is the leader of the Sith Inquisitors, agents in charge of hunting the surviving Jedi of Order 66. Children, young padawans, and masters are hunted relentlessly in every corner of the galaxy. Nowhere seems to be safe for the possessors of force. The only one who has hidden from Vader’s eyes is Obi-Wan, in exile on Tatooine.
The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi brought old glories and new characters back to the screen, such as the Reva played by Moses Ingram. However, showrunner Joby Harold has decided to give relevance to another character, the Grand Inquisitor. Played by Rupert Friend, this ruthless Sith had already appeared as the nemesis of the protagonists of Star Wars: Rebels the animated series released in 2014. Here the Inquisitor had a predominant role in the plot, and now fans can see him for the first time. time in the live-action version. The second episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi closes with a curious plot twist which, if confirmed, would be in contrast with what is shown in Rebels and it would be a big retcon on the part of the production. Here we discover that Reva, the third sister, would like to capture Obi-Wan on her own initiative, now off the radar for ten years. The Grand Inquisitor orders her to let it go, as it is not her priority now. The Sith ignores the orders and hatches a plan to track down the Jedi master. In fact, aware of the relationship that tied Kenobi to Senator Bail Organa, she launches into the kidnapping of little Leia, the daughter of Anakin Skywalker. A reluctant Obi-Wan thus sets out in search of the child, falling with all his feet into the trap that Reva has prepared for him.
Having discovered and freed Princess Leia, the two realize that, the inquisitor’s plan was precisely to capture Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Grand Inquisitor arrives with the rest of the troop on the planet where the little girl was brought. Upon discovering the Jedi’s presence there, the Sith commander takes control of the operation, inviting Reva to step aside again. For the second time, the woman does not accept the orders of her superior and in the end, she manages to reach Obi-Wan and Leia at the port where a safe ship awaits them. Grand Inquisitor and Reva launch into an open argument, which ends with the alleged death of the Sith at the hands of the third sister. The character falls to the ground and appears to have been knocked out by his subordinate. But will it really be like this? In our opinion, no, as the character is present in Star Wars: Rebels set four years after the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The Story Of The Grand Inquisitor Before The Live-Action Series
In Star Wars: Rebels we discover that the character is originally from the planet Utapau, where the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous took place. Furthermore, we learn that the Pau’an is not born as a Jedi or Sith but learns the ways of the dark side under the leadership of the Galactic Empire. In fact, he was trained by Darth Vader himself, who entrusted him with the task of finding and killing the force-sensitive children before the surviving Jedi masters could train them. Such maturity and knowledge of the Star Wars universe have given us hope for the episodes to come. The death of the Grand Inquisitor would move angry masses of fans against the production, and that’s certainly not what they want in the Star Wars household. Only the release of the third episode will be able to confirm or overturn our supposition, but we still consider the death of the character unlikely.
