No One Will Save You will be available on Hulu from September 22, 2023. The horror film was released in theaters on September 19, released by Hulu in the United States. Internationally, it arrived streaming on Disney+ and, in a few hours, attracted the attention of many subscribers. The protagonist of the story is Brynn, a woman who lives in her childhood home, alone and estranged from all the inhabitants of the city. One night she discovers that there is someone in the house and realizes that it is an alien. Suddenly a strange force destroys part of the house and Brynn tries to escape. The escape leads viewers to an unexpected truth. If you’ve seen No One Will Save You, the new Hulu Disney+ original sci-fi horror starring Kaitlyn Dever, you’re probably wondering what the real meaning of its epilogue is, and what happens to the protagonist Brynn and the other inhabitants after the alien invasion.
As we saw in our review of No One Will Save You, the film follows the vicissitudes of Brynn Adams, a young woman who leads a solitary existence on the fringes of a community that seems to deliberately avoid her. A life of exile but all in all peaceful, which one night is suddenly upset by the arrival of extraterrestrials with unknown intentions. After an attempt to escape from the city and several scuffles, Brynn realizes that extraterrestrials are colonizing the town, possessing its inhabitants. She, at one point, is immobilized as an alien parasite crawls down her throat to take control of her body and mind. We then see her wake up in her bed as if nothing had happened: it’s morning again, the house is in order, and everything seems to have just been a bad dream. This is not the case, and we understand this when the girl sees a woman with long red hair surrounded by a luminous aura entering through the door. Brynn here utters her only line, addressing the mysterious figure these words: “I’m sorry Maude“. But who is Maude? Why do the inhabitants avoid it and what is the meaning of the film’s epilogue? No One Will Save You Ending Explained: The Story Plot
No One Will Save You is a science fiction horror film written, produced, and directed by Brian Duffield. The film manages to entertain viewers for around 90 minutes and offers a complex ending. The protagonist of the plot is Brynn Adams, a girl who lives alone in an American town. She lives with old furniture, wears mid-century clothes, and appears to have no job. This way of life initially suggests that we are in a bygone period. Instead, we are in the present day. Brynn is afraid to leave the house and talk to other people. This is because the locals are shocked by her appearance and look at her annoyed. In the first minutes of the film, we see her intent on writing letters to her best friend Maude and building the model city at home. This activity gives her a lot of serenity. Brynn lives as if in a bubble and the turning point comes when mysterious presences invade her house. They are aliens and she manages to kill one of them. When she goes to the police, she meets Maude’s parents and her mother spits in her face. And here we understand that something has happened to her friend. Meanwhile, Brynn tries to escape the aliens by leaving the city on a bus and some of her passengers turn out to be possessed by the aliens.
No One Will Save You Ending Explained: Does Brynn Die at the End?
An alien spaceship transmits another Brynn, who stabs the real Brynn in the stomach. She manages to cut the throat of her “double” and kills him. The aliens are fascinated by her because they have failed to control her, as they did with the other citizens. They investigate her and learn of Maude’s death, appearing touched by her story. So, they bring Brynn back to Earth, injured. The latter looks at the sky bleeding and exhausted. Two interpretations can be made. One might think that at this point the protagonist dies and that what happens is only the fruit of her imagination. Or the aliens could have done something to the minds of the other citizens to make the girl live happily.
In the final scene, we see Brynn preparing to return to the city, almost recovered. So, this means that she has recovered. Now she is no longer alone, so much so that some citizens help her with the gardening. Well, they are all possessed by aliens. Now Brynn lives a fantastic and peaceful life, in the city she was building when the film began. No one treats her like a murderer more than her and she can live as she wants. No One Will Save You ends with alien spaceships passing over the city, no longer intent on causing problems.
Who is Maude?
At the beginning of the film, we see Brynn, in total solitude, writing letters addressed to a certain Maude. It is not explained to us who she is but we can imagine that she is a friend (perhaps who lives far away) to whom our protagonist talks about her days. However, when Maude appears to Brynn and the latter apologizes to her, we understand that something serious has happened between the two and that her friend is probably actually dead. We then have to wait a little longer to find out more because, realizing that she is in a trance, the girl sticks her hand down her throat to extract the parasite that is infesting her. Waking up in the garden, she then decides to run into the woods, where she has a bizarre encounter: she comes across what appears to be a clone of hers who stabs her in the belly. In response.
After this strange event, Brynn is reached again by aliens who capture her and transport her to their spaceship. Here, the extraterrestrials begin to investigate the contents of her mind, probably surprised that she managed to escape for so long. We then see Brynn reliving a crucial moment of her childhood, the moment that forever changed the course of her life: during an argument with a friend – who we understand was Maude – the latter had pushed her, causing her to fall to the ground and Brynn, getting up, hit her with a stone on the head, killing her instantly. Maude’s Death?
Towards the end of No One Will Save You, Brynn tries to fight off the possessed and return home. While she is returning, she stops near the cemetery, and it is possible to see Maude’s grave. When the aliens manage to enter Brynn’s body, her mind is transported to a strange place where Maude is there and apologizes to her. The moment he tries to reach her, she disappears. Eventually, the protagonist is captured and brought to her in one of their spacecraft. And the memories reveal what happened to Maude. When they were 12 the two argued in the woods. In anger, Brynn killed Maude by hitting her with a piece of rock on the head. The victim’s father was, at that time, the city police captain and had studied the dynamics of what happened well. As only a child, Brynn was not arrested and she continued to live in the city, entering a fantasy world of her own, where she could still talk to Maude with her letters. Why Do the Inhabitants of the Community Avoid It?
In Brynn’s vision of the past, we also see her father, a city policeman who immediately rushed to the scene of the accident. Probably due to the role of the man, known to the whole community, the circumstances of Maude’s death immediately became public knowledge. This is precisely the reason for the hostility of the locals towards Brynn: the inhabitants never managed to forgive the girl even though she was only a child at the time and have always continued to see her only as a criminal. For her part, our protagonist began to live in her parents’ house (of which we are only shown the tomb of her mother) as if it were a prison, building a world in which she could still talk to Maude through her letters.
No One Will Save You: The True Meaning of the Ending?
Watching the ending of No One Will Save You, one might think that it is just a beautiful dream of Brynn’s, perhaps locked up together with the other inhabitants inside a spaceship. This is not the case: while she is preparing to go dancing we can see the wounds of that night still healing. We are therefore still in our world, but the citizens no longer seem the same; the excessively cordial way in which they greet the girl makes us understand that they are still under alien influence, capable of manipulating their bodies and minds. Why all this? Perhaps, after having witnessed all the suffering experienced by our protagonist, the aliens felt empathy, creating for her an idyllic version of the city similar to that of the model the girl was working on.
