The film follows Ambar, an undocumented immigrant who leaves Mexico to pursue the American dream. She finds herself in a boarding house which quickly turns into a nightmare from which she cannot escape. This is a macabre and slightly disgusting movie, so you’ll be forgiven for watching it through your fingers. If so, and you’ve missed crucial passages, don’t worry, we’re here to give you the explanation for the end of No One Gets Out Alive!
No One Gets Out Alive Ending Explained: What’s in the Box?
Ambar escaped from the basement and took the ancient sword hanging in Arthur’s study room. She used the sword to fight Red and Becker as they prepared Petra for the sacrifice. In rage, Becker broke Ambar’s ankle and killed Petra, who was trying to escape. Eventually, Ambar confronted Becker and slipped a piece of the sword down his neck.
At the end of No One Gets Out Alive, Ambar chains Red into the cellar and opens the stone box. She saw the evil spirit rip Red’s head off as he remembered Becker in his dream. As mentioned earlier, the evil spirit pricks up memories, and presumably, in his subconscious, Red saw Becker kill him.
After the sacrifice, Ambar came out of the cellar and locked it. She decided to leave the cursed house, but as she walked away, her ankle was magically healed. It was probably a blessing from the evil spirit in exchange for the ritual sacrifice performed by Ambar.
The butterfly which foreshadowed the presence of evil spirits flew around her. A satisfied smile on Ambar’s face suggested that she would likely continue the legacy of sacrifice and attract men and women to gain the favor of the spirit. After all, there was nothing else for her in the foreign land, and it was the evil spirit that embraced her.
Did Ambar Kill Her Mother?
Ambar killed his mother in her dreams, that is, she symbolically turned the page on this tragedy. The evil spirit failed to attract Ambar or kill her in real life, and so crawled into her cage, frightened. When Ambar opened the stone box, she found a skeleton and a butterfly flying around. Probably, because Ambar did not fall into the spirit trap, the demon perished or turned into bone.
