Nine Perfect Strangers: Masha And Tranquillum House Exist, This Is Their Story
Are You Also Obsessed With Nicole Kidman And Her Rare Wellness Retreat? All Of This Was Inspired By Reality.
Nine Perfect Strangers is definitely not a true story, it was created by Liane Moriarty for her mystery novel that is different from all the others, but to write that story, the author of Big Little Lies was inspired by the real world.
The series (which you can already see on Amazon Prime ) tells the story of “Nine Perfect Strangers“, ordinary people who coincide when they all decide to spend 10 days in a luxury resort, where they plan to dedicate themselves to meditating, eating healthy and receiving therapies by the mysterious Masha (played Nicole Kidman), who, according to rumors, can solve all your problems with her unorthodox treatments.
The resort is named after Tranquillum House and it is amazing, it is surrounded by nature, the rooms have large windows to let in natural light and each element was carefully curated to convey peace and tranquility, although things do not always go well and they all seem be hiding something, mainly Masha, who used to be a powerful CEO before coming to this place.
The story is not real, but the series is inspired by a real resort (although strange or dangerous things do not happen there) and, according to Moriarty , he even thought about taking characteristics of an infamous cult leader to create Masha (and her dark secrets).
The Truth Behind Masha
Masha definitely doesn’t remember some Fitness influencers (don’t you see some Gwyneth Paltrow and Goop in her?), But Moriartty also thought of Jim Jones, the infamous founder of Jonestown, where the mass suicide of 900 of his followers (of that situation comes from the phrase “I’ll take the Kool-Aid”).
“It is true that I did a lot of research on cult leaders, but in the end, I decided not to go down that path. I was researching Jonestown and all those charismatic leaders. I found it so fascinating how quickly someone with charisma and them taking advantage of some of the wishes that people have, they can do anything, “said the author in an interview.
Jim Jones certainly marked the process, but in the end, Tranquillum House wasn’t supposed to look like a cult, so Moriarty changed the plan a bit later revealing that he met some people who own resorts and was even going to have a man named Gregory instead of Masha, but all that experience ended up giving life to Masha and her “treatments.”
The Truth Behind Tranquillum House
You definitely can’t book a stay at Tranquillum House, because it exists only in the series, but Nine Perfect Strangers was filmed in a real resort that you can find in Australia.
Tranquillum House is a combination of a private residence called Lune de Sang and a Byron Bay resort named after SOMA, but before that, Moriarty said he started looking for travel reviews and came across quite a few who spoke. of a resort in which they spoke of the owner as a “madman” and others in which the guests were delighted with the woman who ran it.
“They just wanted to sit on his lap. Nothing terrible happened in these places, but it implied that even though they had only been there for a short time, it had had a great impact, “Moriarty said in 2018, during the launch of the novel.
In addition, the first chapter talks about a ceremony in a Sedona, California resort, where several people died, and that is completely real, it happened in 2009 when, during a ceremony in a sauna, 18 people had to be hospitalized and 3 more died.
Moriarty also took inspiration from the Chenot Palace in Azerbaijan, which is famous for developing a detox diet, performing blood tests and doing treatments that have been banned in the United States.
