Episode 1 Review: Edhiri (Karuna) Directed by: Bejoy Nambiar,

Starring: Vijay Sethupathi, Revathi, Prakash Raj, Ashok Selvan

Ratings: 3/5 (Three Stars)

Edhiri Navarasa Review

It is about Karuna or Karuna Rasa. Bejoy Nambiar has directed this episode. This is the story of a middle-aged woman named Savitri, who has not spoken to her husband in the last 10 years. One day suddenly a man named Dhina comes and goes after killing her husband. Savitri sees her husband’s murderer leaving in front of her eyes. After some time Dhina comes back and apologizes to Savitri. But the question is, will she ever be able to forgive Dhina?

In this episode, Savitri’s role is played by Revathi and Dheena’s role is played by Vijay Sethupathi. Prakash Raj is seen in the double role of Savitri’s husband and Dhina’s father. In a scene in this episode, Dhina says that Savitri looks at her as if she has seen a ghost. This happens because the character of Savitri is very complex. By the way, the purpose of this story is to show that Savitri is a very compassionate woman. She also forgives her husband’s murderer. But in reality this does not happen. The focus of this story shifts from Compassion to Compassion and Guilt. This thing makes this story more relevant and relatable instead of messing up.

This episode gives a great start to this series. Bejoy Nambiar is known to be one such filmmaker who explores the complex nature of the characters. But while watching this episode, you constantly feel that the lack of time is coming in the way of implementing the director’s vision on screen. Therefore, despite being interesting, this film does not leave much impact.

Episode 2 Review: Summer of 92 (Hasya) Directed by: Priyadarshan

Starring: Yogi Babu, Nedumudi Venu, Remya Nambeesan , Manikuttan

Ratings: 3.5/5 (Three and Half Stars)

Summer of 92 Navarasa Review

This episode directed by Priyadarshan is all about comedy. The story of a bad student named Veluswamy, who has now become a famous comedian and actor. He is called one day to deliver a speech at his school. Here Veluswamy narrates the incident of his school time when his principal gave him the task of driving away his pet dog king. But this is such an unfunny and weird story, after seeing which it is not only laughable but disgusted.

Although luck and failure in class does not matter in this film, big things happen. But the climax of this story is about a dog wrapped in a potty. Also, this entire film is full of body shaming and castist jokes. The protagonist of the story comes from Veluswami, a so-called lower caste and is fat in body. That’s why during this entire episode, his teachers call him a pig. While watching this story of humorous juice, you do not feel that juice anywhere. Feels bad only for Veluswamy turned actor Yogi Babu. Who was recently seen in socially and politically relevant films like ‘Mandela’. This episode is the biggest let down of this series.

Episode 3 Review: Project Agni (Adbutha) Directed By: Karthick Naren

Starring: Arvind Swami, Prasanna, Sai Siddharth, Poorna

Ratings: 4/5 (Four Stars)

Project Agni Review Navarasa

It talks about wonderful juice, that is, something that is amazing. This episode is directed by Karthik Naren. This is the story of a scientist named Vishnu, who loses his family due to technical things like time travel and computer simulation. But during this time he comes to know some such things, which can ruin this world. To save the world, he takes the help of ISRO scientist and his special friend Krishna. But in the process it accidentally gets mistaken.

‘Project Agni’. This is a science fiction thriller episode, in which doubts are raised about the existence of something like God. It is said that we are all part of some simulation. And the world is a science fiction movie in itself. On the lines of movies like ‘Coherence’ and ‘The Matrix’, there are many such things in this episode that catch your attention. Gives a chance to get involved with the story. Existential question asks. Overall, it gives a great thrill to the audience. But the film which is doing so much scientific talk, it seems a bit strange to name its characters Vishnu, Krishna and Lakshmi. The makers may have done this intentionally. But this thing raises questions about the credibility of the story.

Episode 4 Review: Payasam (Bheebhatsa) Directed by: Vasanth Sai

Starring: Aditi Balan, Rohini, Delhi Ganesh

Ratings: 4/5 (Four Stars)

Payasam Review Navarasa

This is the story of Vibhatsa Rasa. This episode is named after a sweet dish made in Tamil Nadu. Inspired by the story of T. Janakiraman, this episode is directed by Vasant Sai. In this episode, Delhi Ganesh and Aditi Balan have played the main characters. In this episode you get to see the best story of this series. Because with the help of this story, the sentiment that the makers wanted to convey to the audience, they are able to reach by law. This story is entertaining, well performed and holds the value of this series. If things were told in a little more detail, then its fun increases manifold. But due to paucity of time, there seems to be a slight lack in detailing. Despite this, Payasam is a complete and compiling story.

Episode 5 Review: Peace (Shanthi) Directed by: Karthik Subbaraj

Starring: Bobby Simha, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Master Tharun, Sananth

Ratings: 3/5 (Three Stars)

Peace Review Navarasa

This is a story of calm juice. Karthik Subbaraj has directed this film. This story takes place in the backdrop of the Sri Lankan Civil War. Where LTTE people are fighting with Sri Lankan Army. Meanwhile, a child enters the LTTE camp. He tells that when he had to leave his village because of the army, he had locked his younger brother in a room and left it there. in order to save his life. In such a situation, the soldier of LTTE tries to help that child. This is the basic plot of this episode.

In this episode, Gautam Vasudev Menon and Bobby Simha have done the main roles. By the way, even though this story is rough, it looks very delicate. But some of its things seem too forced and stuffed up forcefully. You have an emotional connect with this story. But the way this film ends, it seems far from reality and stupid.

Episode 6 Review: Roudhram (Raudra) Directed By: Arvind Swami

Starring: Riythvika, Sree Raam, Abhinayashree, Ramesh Thilak, Geetha Kailasam

Ratings: 3.5/5 (Three and Haft Stars)

Roudhram Review Navarasa

Which is about Raudra Rasa. Arvind Swami has directed this episode. This is Arvind’s directorial debut. The story of this episode is about a boy named Arul, who kills a man by hitting him with a hammer. During the investigation, it is revealed that Arul did this because the man tried to take advantage of his mother’s compulsion. Parallel to Arul’s story, the story of a female IPS officer also goes on, who is very angry and violent. Later it is revealed that Arul and the lady officer are siblings. And the reason for the anger of both is the same.

This is a very cliched and conventional story. You don’t find anything in this episode which is new. Secondly, this is a very manly story. The tragedy in this story has happened to the women. But his point is nowhere in this story. Everything suddenly becomes about the men. There is a scene in this episode, where a policeman tries to put his hand in Arul’s pants during the investigation. But nothing is shown or told about this further. Everything goes downhill. But you can never get an idea of its seriousness.

Episode 7 Review: Inmai (Bhaya) Directed By: Rathindran R Prasad

Starring: Siddharth, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pavel Navageethan, Rajesh Balachandran, Ammu Abhirami

Ratings: 3/5 (Three Stars)

Inmai Review Navarasa

This is the story of fear. Rathindran R Prasad has directed this episode. This story takes place in present-day Puducherry, where a woman named Waheeda lives. One day a man named Farooq comes to his house. He has come to get Waheeda’s signature on some paper. But Waheeda learns after some time that Farooq is not the man he is telling. With the help of flashbacks, we get to know the backstories of both these characters.

In this episode, the role of Waheeda is seen as Parvati and Siddharth is seen in the role of Farooq. This is the most thrilling and unpredictable episode of this series. This episode revolves around human emotions like fear and guilt. To what extent these two expressions can take the human mind, it is tried to show you in this story. The music of this episode is beautiful. The music coming from the background in the midst of a frightening story lifts the mood of the episode. The music of this episode is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The second episode of this series after ‘Payasam’, which seems a bit ok.

Episode 8 Review: Thunintha Pin (Veera) Directed By: Sarjun KM

Starring: Atharvaa, Anjali, Kishore

Ratings: 2.5/5 (Two and Haft Stars)

Thunintha Pin Review Navarasa

This is the story of Veer Ras. This episode is written by Mani Ratnam and directed by Sarjun KM. This is the story of a new army soldier named Vetri, whose team has gone to the jungle to confront the Naxalites. Many soldiers are killed in encounters with Naxalites. But during this, the chief of Naxalites is badly injured by Vetri’s bullet. On the orders of the seniors, Vetri takes the injured Naxalite to the hospital. So that he can be kept alive and information about other attacks can be collected. But upon reaching the hospital, the game changes.

Atharva and Kishore have played lead roles in this episode. Seeing this story reminds us of Mani Ratnam’s film Raavan. Where we are left with the dilemma of who is Ram and who is Ravana. But even this dilemma could not make this story what it wanted to become. The biggest drawback of this episode is that we are told more by saying than shown. This seems like a mockery of the cinema medium. What is being said on this is also not such a thing that you can feel any emotion by listening to it. In the story of this Veer Ras, Veer should be considered as the one who can watch this episode in its entirety.

Episode 9 Review: Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru (Sringara) Directed By: Gautham Menon

Starring: Suriya, Prayaga Martin

Ratings: 2.5/5 (Two and Half Stars)

Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru Review Navarasa

This is the story of Shringar Ras. This episode is directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. This is the story of a musician named Kamal, who meets a singer named Netra. After the very first meeting, something like untold love starts happening between them. Time puts the untold into words. But nothing lasts forever. In between, things change. Isolation ensues. But this experience teaches him a lot about love and life. What makes Kamal a good musician and Netra gets lost somewhere in these stories.

In this episode, the role of Kamal is played by Suriya and Netra is played by Pragya Martin. This type of love story has been shown in many films. But the moments that Gautam has woven for his leading pair are lovely. But overall the film is very conservative. We hear in many places that boys find their mother in every girlfriend. Here that thing is kept right in front of our eyes. And the introductory scene of the film is the only meaning. Kamal has gone on stage to receive the Grammy, the biggest award in the music world. He is narrating his love story from the same stage in a flashback. Just because of this moment your trust gets lifted from this film. If there was anything at the Grammys to be disappointed with, every viewer deserved it after the series ended.
