Napoleon: Here Is the First Trailer of The New Film By Ridley Scott With Joaquin Phoenix
Sony Pictures has released the Italian trailer for Napoleon, the new film by Ridley Scott that will narrate the rise and fall of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix. The film traces Bonaparte’s unstoppable rise to power through his stormy relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showing the great leader’s visionary political and military strategies in some of the most realistic and spectacular battle scenes ever made. The film is written by David Scarpa, former author of All the Money in the World for Ridley Scott, released in 2018. Napoleon will offer an original and intimate look at Napoleon‘s origins, up to the ruthless rise to become emperor, all seen through history with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The intention of the film is to show Napoleon‘s most famous battles, relentless ambition, and the strategic mind of an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.

“Napoleon is a man I’ve always been fascinated by – said the director of Blade Runner. He came out of nowhere to rule everything, but all the while he waged a romantic war with his adulterous wife Josephine. He conquered the world to try to win her love for him, and when he couldn’t, he conquered it to destroy her and ended up destroying himself.” Jodie Comer will instead play the first consort of the French emperor, Marie-Josèphe-Rose Tascher de La Pagerie, better known as Josephine of Beauharnais. For Comer it will be the second collaboration with the American filmmaker: she appears in fact in the recent The Last Duel, a historical drama that also stars Adam Driver, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck. “I jumped at the opportunity to work again with Ridley and his team and the idea of working with Joaquin, who is someone I greatly admire”, the actress said in an interview with Variety. The cast is completed by Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Youssef Kerkour, John Hollingworth, Edouard Philipponnat, and Alfredo Tavares. It will hit theaters on November 23rd.
