Harry Styles is ready to take on his first queer role as an actor: he plays the policeman who stars in the film My Policeman, arriving in October 2022. Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts, My Policeman is already one of the most anticipated titles in autumn, thanks to its stellar cast and engaging story. The main curiosity, however, concerns Harry Styles, struggling with an important step in the career of an actor: the first openly queer role. My Policeman: The Plot
The film should faithfully follow the plot of the novel, set in two distinct moments in time. The story opens in the English town of Brighton in 1957, where Tom Burgess (Harry Styles) lives. As a policeman, Tom is a man aware of how dangerous it is to make explicit his homosexuality: at the time in England being homosexual was a crime.
He, therefore, begins to attend a school teacher named Marion (Emma Corrin, the Lady D of The Crown), with whom over time he builds a stable relationship, marrying her. In secret, however, he cultivates a forbidden relationship with the cultured and charming Patrick Hazelwood (David Dawson), who is in charge of curating a local museum. The initial tensions between Marion and Tom, however, intensify after the marriage, to the point of shattering the lives of both.
Halfway through the film, there should be a time jump and a change of actors: the second part of My Policeman is set 40 years later. The protagonist Tom (Linus Roache) will continue his increasingly complicated relationship with Marion (Gina McKee), strained by his request to welcome Patrick (Rupert Everett) under the same roof after he suffered a serious heart attack.

The cast of My Policeman is truly stellar. In addition to starring Harry Styles, it also sees Emma Corrin in her first major movie role after her success as the young Lady Diana in The Crown after the time jump we will also find Rupert Everett in the role of lover Patrick.
