My Hero Academia: Netflix Announces the Live-Action Film, From the Creators Of Obi-Wan Kenobi
Big news awaited My Hero Academia fans this morning: the hugely popular anime will be getting a live-action remake and Netflix will be its home! The heroes of My Hero Academia are ready to come to life, even if transferring anime and manga into the field of live-action is a very complicated (and often disastrous) experiment, but the streaming giant has decided to try his luck once again to see if this path is the right one. Will the success of Kōhei Horikoshi’s shōnen manga be able to reach Netflix subscribers too?
My Hero Academia: Netflix Announces the Live-Action Film
Legendary Entertainment will produce the film for Netflix, although there is still a lot of work to be done and no official release date has been provided. Shinsuke Sato (Alice in Borderland) will direct and produce the film – his first English-language project – while Joby Harold will handle the adaptation of Horikoshi’s manga. Harold has previously worked on the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the Netflix film Army of the Dead and is credited as a writer on The Flash, so he is no stranger to the world of superheroes.
Netflix has already had several failed attempts to bring the worlds of anime to live-action, just think of the recent attempts with Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, which suffered one of the most withering cancellations of the streaming platform. Next year will be the turn of the live-action remake of One Piece, one of the most awaited series by “otaku” from all over the world. Meanwhile, the My Hero Academia anime is already in its sixth season, while the manga is in its final arc and nearing its conclusion. The first two seasons are already available on Netflix (the others are on Crunchyroll) and the two films, Heroes Rising and Two Heroes.
