There is always time to watch a good thriller and Mute Series (El Silencio), the new Netflix miniseries, is one of those that no one will want to miss. The series stars the Spanish Arón Piper and was created by Aitor Gabilondo, who recently brought us the HBO series Patria, about the real conflicts with ETA in Spain and how it marked families and entire communities (through the story of two families that are connected), but this is a fictional story about death, secrets, and crime.

The story of Mute Series follows a lonely man who spends years in prison for the murder of his parents, but since he hasn’t said a word since that happened, no one knows what led him to commit that crime or if he currently he continues to represent a danger to himself and society, and that is only part of the problem. In an interview with Fotogramas, Gabilondo explained that the series is a psychological thriller full of mystery, doubts, mind games, and secrets, where we meet a deeply disturbed man marked by tragedy, who draws the attention of an expert who must try to get inside in his mind to discover who he is and what he is capable of. Gabilondo’s idea was to show the monsters that are created when we keep things.

The first trailer of the series shows Aron Piper, from Elite, as a silent criminal who refuses to say a word, but on the other side is a psychologist who is looking for answers and to understand what drives this man, to determine if he can do something worse now that he is free.

The series stars Piper but is also made up of  Manu Ríos (who also appeared in Elite), Almudena Amor (from Historias para no sleep), Aitor Luna (who appears in Los heirs of the earth on Netflix),  Cristina Kovani (from the series La caza),  Ramiro Blas (whom I vimeo in the series The Boarding School: Las Cumbres), Aria Bedmar (from Tell me who I am) and  Mikel Losada (who previously appeared in García y García).

When Does Mute Series Premiere?

For now, Netflix simply confirmed that the Spanish series will be available on the platform in May.

What is Mute Series About?

Do you know Sergio? Six years ago he became the murderer on the balcony, ”says the character of Almudena Amor in the trailer, which introduces us to what happens in this criminal story. Mute Series focuses on Sergio, who spends 6 years in prison for being accused of killing his parents but has just been released psychologist Ann Dussuel is determined to find out if he is “cured” or if he is a monster that he can do worse things, and for that, he needs to find someone who can get close to Sergio and make him talk.

Sergio hasn’t spoken to anyone, so they don’t know why he committed the murder or what happened that night, so Dussuel recruits a woman who, supposedly, is the only person Sergio could open up to. her story, though that probably endangers her as well. It is evident that Sergio’s story is more complicated than it seems and that he is hiding the truth for a compelling reason that could change everything when discovered, but this is a race against time, and it is necessary to get to the bottom of everything before for something to happen.
