Let’s take a closer look at everything we know about Khonshu and have learned from Marvel Comics.
Who is Khonshu?
Within the Marvel Universe, many ancient gods have turned out to be real forces, such as Hercules or Thor. Khonshu is a deity of the Celestial Heliopolis, home of the gods revered by the ancient Egyptians. Formerly mentor of Horus and rival of Seth, Khonshu’s motives have always appeared mysterious to the human eye, despite the being having chosen a human avatar in Moon Knight.
In the modern era, the mercenary Marc Spector finds himself for an assignment in an archaeological excavation where the statue of the Egyptian god is found. After being left dying by his former allies, Spector agrees to become Khonshu’s disciple on Earth, becoming the superhero Moon Knight. Although he operates more as an independent hero, Moon Knight appears to be guided by Khonshu’s designs. The hero even joined the Avengers at his urging so that Khonshu could more easily face Seth in a battle in Asgard.
Subsequently, Marc turned his back on the deity and for a short time even thought it was just a figment of his imagination. Khonshu has chosen other avatars over the years and alternates moments where he seems to really care about Marc with others where he only regards him as an expendable tool for his silent battles with other deities. But what threat would be so great for Khonshu that he feels the need to come into conflict with the rest of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe?
