Many people have been involved in the story of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, but the series doesn’t go into detail about what happened to them after the events shown on screen. Ryan Murphy‘s controversial Netflix series portrays the infamous cannibal and a variety of characters struck by his killing spree. Despite being met with criticism, Monster has quickly become one of Netflix’s most successful series and has been praised for giving a voice to those affected by Dahmer and for focusing on the systematic failures that have allowed his crimes to spread to continue.

American Horror Story regular Evan Peters plays the title character. In addition to detailing Jeffrey Dahmer‘s childhood, the limited series focuses on the crimes he committed between 1978 and 1991, in which he killed, dismembered and in some cases cannibalized 17 young men and boys, resulting in a conviction in 1992 and 15 consecutive life sentences in prison. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story sheds light on the often overlooked lives of the killer’s victims, as well as showing the mental states of traumatized neighbors and unsuspecting family members. The ending doesn’t elaborate on what happened to the people involved after the events of the series, but life continued for these survivors, neighbors and family in real life after Jeffrey Dahmer was murdered in prison in 1994.

Lionel and Shari Dahmer

In Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer, much attention is paid to Dahmer’s father, Lionel, and stepmother, Shari. The boy’s crimes came as a huge shock to the couple, although it was revealed in the final episode of the controversial true crime series that Lionel Dahmer (played by Richard Jenkin), had expressed the same fantasies as his son, thankfully without following. Since Jeffrey Dahmer’s arrest, Lionel has regularly discussed his child’s life, most notably in his 1994 memoir, A Father’s Story.

Lionel said the relationship with his son grew stronger after Dahmer’s incarceration. Although he has appeared in many interviews over the years, most recently in the 2020 series Jeffrey Dahmer: Mind of a Monster, Lionel Dahmer has mainly tried to stay out of the public eye. Both he and Shari (played by Molly Ringwald ) use every television appearance to raise awareness of other parents who may have concerns about their children. The two are now 80 and still married, reportedly residing peacefully together in Ohio.

Joyce Flint and David

Jeffrey Dahmer’s mother Joyce has led a troubled life after suffering from postpartum depression since her birth and that of her younger brother, David, as detailed at the beginning of Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer. After a tumultuous relationship with Lionel and a messy divorce, Joyce (played by Penelope Ann Miller ), took David and moved to California, nearly abandoning Jeffrey in their family home and creating the opportunity for her son to carry out his first murder. , by Steven Hicks, 18, in 1978. After Jeffrey’s arrest in 1991, Joyce expressed her sorrow for her son’s actions but kept calling him every Sunday.

After the murder of her son in 1994, Joyce made several attempts to take her own life. In 1995, she fought Lionel in court in an attempt to allow the study of Jeffrey’s brain, but after losing this battle, she returned to a semblance of normal life by working at an HIV community center, where her colleagues they described as “enthusiastic” and “compassionate”. Joyce died of breast cancer at the age of 64 in 2000. Not much is known about the life of Jeffrey’s younger brother, David Dahmer, although it has been reported that he changed his family name to distance himself from his brother. and is allegedly married with two children.

Catherine Dahmer

Jeffrey Dahmer’s paternal grandmother Catherine (played by Michael Learned ) played a huge and unwitting role in her grandson’s criminal insanity, as his home was the site of many of his first murders. After Jeffrey was discharged from the army in 1981, Lionel sent him to live with his grandmother, hoping she would have a positive influence on him. Unfortunately, this didn’t go as planned as, in the nine years Jeffrey has resided in his home, he has killed three victims and dismembered a fourth.

Despite the series suggesting that Catherine was suspicious of her nephew’s activities in the home, it was never confirmed if she had any idea what was going on, as she gave no testimony at her trial. However, she found the stolen mannequin of her granddaughter and potentially saved Ronald Flowers ‘ life after disrupting Dahmer’s usual routine. She reportedly Catherine passed away on Christmas Day 1992, with Monster suggesting she had been suffering from dementia from a few years earlier.

Glenda Cleveland

Scream Queens star Niecy Nash plays Glenda Cleveland in Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer, a fusion of the real Glenda, who lived in a nearby building, and Jeffrey Dahmer’s real neighbor, Pamela Bass. Glenda was a key figure in calling attention to law enforcement’s failures to stop the serial killer, especially after witnessing police officers Joseph Gabrish and John Balcerzak as one of Dahmer’s victims returned to his apartment after he they had been told that the young man was her drunk boyfriend.

Glenda became an activist for the victims’ families after her arrest, noting that if the police listened to her pleas, at least five of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims would be spared. In the years that followed, she tried to stay out of the media spotlight, wanting to return to normal instead. Even so, she was praised as a heroine, receiving awards from women’s groups and the Milwaukee Police Department. She lived in the area for the rest of her life, dying in 2010 at the age of 56.

Ronald Flowers

In addition to Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story centered on the victims who did not survive, there have been many who have managed to come face to face with Dahmer and make it out alive. Ronald Flowers was lured to Dahmer’s grandmother’s house in hopes of getting help restarting his car. Dahmer’s grandmother interrupted the couple after Flowers got drugged, forcing Dahmer to make sure Flowers got to the hospital. Although she spoke to the police, who questioned Dahmer, no action was taken against the killer.

Dyllón Burnside plays Flowers in Monster, although the real Flowers maintained a mostly private life after the accident. He made a rare appearance in Jeffrey Dahmer: Mind of a Monster, where he talked about his experience with the serial killer, explaining how he felt “pure terror”. Flowers testified against Dahmer in court, claiming that if it weren’t for the killer’s grandmother, he would have been killed. Although not much is known about Flowers’ life since Dahmer, he revealed that he worked as a mental health consultant.

Tracy Edwards

The first of Jeffrey Dahmer’s potential victims that viewers see in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was his last, Tracy Edwards (played by Shaun J. Brown). Edwards was the key to Dahmer’s capture, as she managed to escape from the killer’s apartment and led the police to the scene. There they found Polaroids of previous victims, which led to Dahmer’s immediate arrest. Unfortunately, Edwards’ story is one of the most tragic in the aftermath of Dahmer’s crimes, as the lucky survivor later got into trouble with law enforcement for various crimes, culminating in a murder in 2011.

After Jeffrey Dahmer’s arrest, Edwards was hailed as a hero for taking down the serial killer. Edwards testified against Dahmer in the 1992 trial where he detailed the tense and terrifying hours he spent in the killer’s apartment before finally making his escape. It appears that his experience with Dahmer has taken its toll, which is not shown in Netflix’s True Crime series, as he has ended up facing charges including drug possession, property damage, theft, and failure to pay child support. He was then arrested along with another man, accused of throwing Jonny Jordan off a bridge, spending a year and a half in prison and two years of prolonged supervision. It is unknown what has happened to Edwards since then.

Christopher Scarver

Played by Furly Mac in Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer, Christopher Scarver killed Jeffrey Dahmer and another prisoner, Jesse Anderson, at the Columbia Correctional Facility in 1994, just two years after Dahmer’s incarceration. Scarver had been in prison for the murder of Wisconsin Conservation Corps employee Steven Lohman in 1990. As shown in Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer, on the morning of November 28, 1994, Scarver, Dahmer and Anderson were doing their homework. in the bathrooms of the prison gym, where they were left unattended for about 20 minutes.

Scarver beat the two men with a dumbbell before returning to his cell and confessing, receiving two more life sentences. In 2012, rumors were circulating that Scarver could have written a revealing book on the murders, although this has not materialized yet.
