Does Salvo Ever Learn the Truth?
Yes. In episode seven, Salvo finally uncovers what happened to Francesco, including the abuse he suffered at the hands of fellow cadets and senior students.
Worried that Achille will bury the case again to protect his own son, Salvo decides to go directly to Teresa Bonaiuto and tell her everything. Alongside Laura, she brings the case to her superiors, hoping it will force real change within Minerva. That hope doesn’t fully pan out the way they expect.
At the school dance, Salvo finally comes face to face with Francesco. That’s when Francesco explains his choice—he decided to leave Minerva behind entirely and live quietly, away from everything tied to that world. He’s already made peace with his new life and whatever it cost him to leave his old one behind. For Salvo, this encounter closes out the search that’s driven most of the season: his friend was never dead. His disappearance had been a decision.
What Happens to the Other Cadets?
Diego, it turns out, hadn’t known Francesco was alive either. Once the full truth comes to light, he ultimately takes responsibility for what happened and is expelled from Minerva.
His sister, Paola, confronts him afterward, telling him plainly how manipulative their father has always been, and revealing information about their mother that reframes a lot of what Diego thought he understood about his family. Realizing just how many years he’s spent being manipulated by Achille, Diego finally decides to confront him directly.
That confrontation between father and son is one of the most tense moments in the entire finale. In the middle of an emotionally charged argument, Diego points a gun at Achille—and ultimately fires a blank round before walking away. He later returns Francesco’s old uniform to him personally. Everything in the finale suggests Diego doesn’t return to Minerva, though the show stops short of confirming exactly what comes next for him.
Max, who also took part in the attacks against Francesco, doesn’t face the same consequences. Rachele, meanwhile, stays at the school throughout, despite ongoing concerns about her health and repeated attempts to push her to leave. By the finale, she appears to be in a genuinely better place.
What Did Commander Achille Giordano Know About Francesco?
Achille Giordano, played by Massimiliano Gallo, represents from the beginning the absolute authority within the Minerva. For him, preserving the discipline and prestige of the institution seems to be above almost any other consideration. The outcome reveals that Achille knew that Francesco had survived. Therefore, throughout the time that Salvo was looking for answers and Diego was trying to keep what happened buried, the commander had an essential piece of the puzzle at his disposal.
That silence is one of the most important elements of the ending because it turns Francesco’s case into something bigger than a problem between students. The abuse could have occurred between students, but the institution had opportunities to face what happened and preferred to protect itself. Achille believes that hiding the truth prevents further damage to the Minerva and, in the process, protects his son. In reality, it achieves the opposite. When Diego understands that his father has lied to him and that part of his life at school was built on half-truths, all the admiration he felt for him begins to collapse. Diego always wanted Achille to look at him as the perfect student. In the end, he discovers that this approval had too high a price.
What Happens to Diego at the End of Minerva Academy?
Diego’s fall is probably the darkest outcome of the season. Once what happened with Francesco comes to light, Diego ends up paying the consequences of his participation and is left out of Minerva. For any other teenager, it would be a serious punishment, but for him it means practically losing his identity. Diego did not imagine a life outside of military school. His career, his future, and, above all, the chance to one day earn Achille’s respect depended on staying there.
That is why the confrontation with his father ends up being much more violent than a simple argument. All the accumulated rage ends up leading to one of the most shocking moments of the final episode: Diego points a gun at Achille and shoots. For a few moments, the scene suggests that the series may end with the son killing the commander. However, the shot does not cause Achille’s death because the cartridge is blank. Achille remains alive. But the relationship between the two has been destroyed.
Why Is Diego’s Shot Against His Father Important?
The shot works less as a criminal twist than as the symbolic end of the relationship between Diego and Achille.
