Meenakshi Sundareshwar Review: The Story

Sundareshwar’s (Abhimanyu Dassani) family moves to Meenakshi’s (Sanya Malhotra) house instead of the marriage bureau’s address. There too a possible groom is waiting for Meenakshi. By the time the misunderstandings of both the families are resolved, the strings are connected and the matter of marriage is confirmed. The twist comes when the very next day of marriage, Sundareswarar receives a job offer letter from an app developing company in Bangalore and has to leave. The owner of the company has a condition that he will only hire unmarried people. The contract is for one year. Sundareshwar lies and stays in Bangalore. What will be the relationship with Meenakshi now, how will this relationship be maintained. What will be the relationship between all the pressures and emotional ups and downs? The story opens these pages.

Actually, this is not the family that Meenakshi’s family is waiting for. Due to the mistake of marriage bureau, Sundareshwar’s family reaches Meenakshi’s house. However, even after this confusion, Meenakshi and Sundareshwar like each other. Sundareshwar is looking for job. He gets a job in an app developing company in Bangalore. His company does not give jobs to married people. In such a situation, Sundareshwar has to hide the matter of his marriage. Sundareshwar tells his problem to Meenakshi. She understands.

Both make every effort to handle the long distance relationship. Will their relationship deteriorate due to living in different cities, will they be able to handle their relationship. On this the story progresses. Meenakshi Sundareshwar is a simple film with no twists. In such a situation, the story becomes boring after a time. The duration of the film makes the story more cumbersome. While going through arranged marriage, long distance relationship, the film does reach the end, but that feeling is missing, which keeps the couple together.

The writers of the film Arsh Vora and Vivek Soni have not been able to explain the reason behind such understanding between two people in arranged marriage, even though they did not have the time constraints. He has definitely kept the feel of the film South Indian, but he did not tie the dialogues of the actors in that language, so the visuals look beautiful, but as soon as the characters speak their dialogues, it becomes difficult to adjust between them. The scenes of the newly wed couple spending leisure time for themselves in the joint family have turned out to be good.

In the absence of the husband, the wife feels bad for the in-laws for talking to a male friend or Meenakshi’s thinking of doing something big by working in a small company has been shown superficially. In such a situation, Vivek has raised many issues, but has left all of them incomplete in the middle. In arranged marriage, the scenes of the girl ticking the list made for her favorite partner have become fun. The scenes showing the love of Rajinikanth’s fans in the single screen theater on the release of his film look real.

Communication is like an oxygen to a relationship… Lack of communication leads to misunderstandings, it ends the relationship… Long distance relationships are difficult but special too… There are many such dialogues, which will keep the people living in long distance relationship. Sanya suits the character of a South Indian girl. While she depicts the pain of the new daughter-in-law waiting for her husband in the midst of a new family, she entertains as a fan of Rajinikanth.

The Review and Analysis

The feature of this film, which was released on Netflix for about two hours and 20 minutes, is the acting of the lead actors. Sanya and Abhimanyu have lived these characters. Sanya in particular impresses. On many occasions, it seems that she is taking the film forward by her own abilities. Sanya Malhotra has rapidly made her mark after debuting in Dangal under Aamir Khan’s shadow. His selection is wise. She has rapidly emerged as an offbeat actress. Apart from the wrong choice of firecrackers of Vishal Bhardwaj, she has films like Badhaai Ho, Photograph, Shakuntala Devi, Ludo and Pagglait in her account, in which she shines well in her characters.

On the other hand, this work of Abhimanyu, son of actress Bhagyashree, who received Filmfare’s Best Male Debut Award (2018) for the first film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, is better than the previous film. Here both the actors, being Hindi speaking, are in Tamil speaking characters and are fit. His hard work is visible. While Abhimanyu’s character is calm-serious, Sanya is bubbly and talkative. Both have good chemistry. Especially in the first half when things are going in the right direction in his life. But there is no doubt that Sanya proves to be twenty.

The Last Words

If superstar Rajinikanth also enters the story of South, then there is nothing left to say. The writer duo Arsh Vora and Vivek Soni have added a new angle to the story with Rajinikanth, which is interesting. Despite the presence of all the family members of Meenakshi and Sundareshwar in the story, the focus is on the lead pair. The song-music here is catchy and different from traditional Bollywood music. The lyrics are written by Rajasekhar. They also have sensibility along with rhythmicity and naughtiness. Music and background music is by Jatin Prabhakaran. Camera work is great. Meenakshi Sundareswarar will appeal to the young audience who love to watch romantic movies of our times, which show the nuances and complexities of new age relationships along with simple love.
