The Start Of A Franchise?
Since the highly publicized release of the first film, the possible development of a second film has been signaled by both audiences and critics. In previous interviews about the film, Wan had revealed that he was not averse to turning the film into a franchise within the horror genre but stated that it was not his original intention with the first film. Linking back to his infamous 2004 film Saw, Wan explained that he initially intended to make a single film before it did exceptionally well in theaters, eventually spawning a multi-layered franchise.
As already mentioned, fans of the first film were already hoping for a continuation of the story. With the confirmation of the official discussions between the director and the lead star, this possibility is closer than ever. Plus, with the positive reviews for the film firmly in its favor, a sequel would certainly make sense for executive producers. While audiences await further announcements about the potential Malignant sequel, the first film is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime and will soon be available on Blu-Ray as well.
