Lightyear: Disney Pixar Unveiled The Release Date of Upcoming Animated Film
Disney has revealed that Lightyear, the new film in the Toy Story saga that will feature the man who inspired the Toy Buzz, will hit theaters on June 17th, 2022. Lightyear will tell how the young test pilot became the space hero who generated the Buzz Lightyear action figure, made famous in the Toy Story saga films. Angus MacLane, the co-director of Finding Dory, will direct. “The world of Buzz has always thrilled me “said director Angus MacLane. “In Toy Story, there seemed to be an incredible story, which is only hinted at, about his being a Space Ranger and I always wanted to explore this world further. So my starting point for Lightyear – Buzz’s real story was: ‘What movie did Andy see that made him want Buzz Lightyear’s toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to be able to make it happen”.

In the original version of the film, along with the previously announced Chris Evans who lends his voice to Buzz, Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi play a group of ambitious recruits. Peter Sohn lends his voice to Buzz’s companion robot, Sox. The voice cast also includes Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. “The Cast of Lightyear – Buzz’s True Story is truly a dream team,” said MacLane. “Each of the performers immediately fell into their character, giving us the opportunity to play a little during the recording sessions. This led to a specificity that raised the bar and added depth to the relationships between the characters. It has been a privilege to work with such a generous and talented cast“.
