Who Kübra Really Is?

The ending of Kübra truly leaves you speechless and gives meaning to the entire series which is revealed right in its ending. At the end of the seventh episode of Kübra, Gökhan discovers that he is not a true messenger of God and that the fact that he survived the gunshot is not a miracle but a plan constructed by his girlfriend, now his wife, to make him return to believe in himself after Kubra stopped texting him on his phone making him believe he was the Lord’s chosen one. The blood on his shirt was nothing more than chicken blood and the bullet was fake. Once he discovered the truth, thanks to the investigator who revealed it to him, Gökhan went into a rage but there was another great truth that he had yet to discover: Kübra‘s true identity.

Suddenly, a boy appears before Gökhan who reveals to him that he knows who Kübra is who had sent him those messages on his phone at the beginning of the series. So Gökhan is asked to turn off the phone and the truth is revealed to him: “Kübra is our creation”, says the mysterious boy. What is it about? An artificial intelligence system designed by a group of kids for the management of company capital based on knowledge of people’s data. This AI system can understand the customer’s weak points and needs and signal the company the best strategies to create what people need and, consequently, have secure earnings. Kübra is nothing other than the acronym for “Knowledge Unite Based Reasoning Automaton. The system was created by three guys who returned from America and received a huge sum for selling Kübra to a Turkish communications company. Selim, Berk, and one of their colleagues. Instead, it is Berk’s assistant, Adem, who reveals the truth to Gökhan.

And if Kübra was created to be a data analysis system, Berk will give it more and more power, until the system comes to have access to the passwords, emails, and all the digital information of every person in the world. So, behind what Gökhan believes to be a message from God, there is simply an artificial intelligence system playing at being God. And the message Gökhan receives on his phone at the start of the series, “You are different” was sent to 86 other men aged between 25 and 30. A target was chosen because people of this age, male, all believe they are different, and those who believe it are already halfway there. Thus, Kübra exploits these human weaknesses to enter the minds of these people and make them believe in far-fetched but necessary things for them, such as the existence of a God who sends signals. “Men choose based on emotions” explains the operating system. Fear, confusion, enthusiasm, every action and decision come from these feelings and Gökhan was chosen to receive those messages precisely because he acts based on these emotions. The others, however, need to follow a leader, and that is precisely what happens with Gökhan’s followers.

Who is Behind Kübra?

The stranger reveals that Kubra is an artificial intelligence program, Knowledge Unit Based Reasoning Automaton, created by a group of developers who sold their product to a telecommunications company to optimize their customer database. One night, Berk, one of the AI’s creators, jokingly tells her to “take power,” but Kubra replies that she can do it. From that moment on, the program sends messages to several people, but only Gökhan passes the first tests. Of course, Berk is enthusiastic about the results and pays no attention to the consequences. When his assistant Adem warns him of the danger, he receives a threat.

Although he cannot do anything about it, Adem decides to share the truth at least with Gökhan, who after the shock of learning that it was not God who was speaking to him, must decide whether to abandon his followers or move on. Semavi believes that God used those programmers to create a way to communicate with him and proclaim his message. At the end of “Kübra,” Gökhan meets with the minister and makes a deal to free his family and friends. But when he goes on stage, he announces that he will return the donated money because it is a command from God. At that moment, the city’s ATMs expel several bills. When he raises his hands and warns that whoever does not heed the word of Allah will suffer, the lights go out. All with the help of Kubra.
