Knock at the Cabin: New Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Upcoming Film
Knock at the Cabin, by M. Night Shyamalan with Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Rupert Grint, Ben Aldridge and Nikki Amuka-Bird, explores an interesting moral issue: a loving family would be ready to sacrifice one of the members to avoid a threatening Armageddon the whole world? Shyamalan, who has garnered both acclaim and criticism for some of his previous projects, including Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and The Last Airbender, will release the project on February 3. While the previous trailer teased the apocalypse, the latest shows the devastation of it, thus helping to demonstrate the circumstances that could force the family to make their fateful choice. The video, released by Universal Pictures, anticipates disturbing apocalyptic events, establishing a higher stake for the film.
How Knock at the Cabin Might Change Shyamalan’s Formula
While Shyamalan is known for his twists and turns, Knock at the Cabin is the perfect opportunity to change the formula and deliver something new with this upcoming horror thriller. The trailer appears to reveal the film’s full storyline, mostly because it seems less important than the decision the family will be forced to make. The image of the invaders is haunting enough, but their polite responses to the family only add to the horrific atmosphere. The film doesn’t seem to need a Sixth Sense twist to keep viewers engaged.
As an adaptation of Paul G. Tremblay’s novel, The Cabin at the End of the World, Knock at the Cabin will also give Shyamalan more room to focus on characterization and aesthetics, rather than insert unnecessary twists or confusing plot directions. However, the story seems to diverge considerably from the novel. Where The Cabin at the End of the World left the existence of the apocalypse a mystery, the film completely stripped that question with its open-ended depiction of devastation, which could prove risky for Shyamalan as it removes the mystery of the story.
