Steven Soderbergh returns to the thriller on HBO Max with Kimi, his new tech-tinged, angst-ridden thriller. The director received an Oscar for his work on Traffic and is known for directing films like Contagion, Erin Brockovich and the Ocean’s trilogy. Heading up Kimi’s cast is Zoë Kravitz, who we’ve seen in movies like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and, very soon, The Batman, as the new iteration of Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Kimi Movie Review

In this movie, the heroine is Zoe Kravitz, who is currently working on the latest movie The Batman, where she plays Selina Kyle or Catwoman. With the film being a low-budget, streaming-only genre, it was focused on selling the name of director Steven Soderbergh with her as the protagonist of the story, single-player, with every scene stretching to the end. Her role is “Angela”, a young programmer who works in a room alone, refusing to leave. with the fear of going out of the room from past events She is responsible for resolving customer usability issues from the voice-activated device Kimi, similar to SIRI or Alexa, but different in that Kimi uses manual corrections to correct errors. It’s purely not AI. She’s the one in charge of that. Which had to listen to the voice sent to solve the case, but she met in one case was the voice of a woman crying for help shortly. So she sent the problems found to the company. But then found that the company did not respond to this problem much. That made her try to find out what happened on her own.

Kimi Movie Review: The Story

After the story has laid a lot for the audience to understand the background of the heroine’s life and then start investigating the case. Which the movie took her out of the room After this, the story begins to have fun. When she tries to find information to come up with the truth, everything she deals with turns out to be dangerous. Even the company she works for has a suspicious abnormality. The movie plays with the fun that the heroine has to come out in an unusual state of mind. Flicker is used Accelerate the speed until it looks haunted. Invites the audience to think in another way or was what she saw as a mental symptom? Before the end gives the opportunity to use Kimi to recover the crisis and took advantage of the early routines followed by a small action scene but satisfying enough which almost all of these are Zoe Kravitz almost ran every single scene from start to finish. Which she really took In addition, the beauty is strange from the appearance. Including the character of a young programmer with blue hair sent this character to stand out very well.

The movie is 1 hour 29 minutes long (including credits), but takes more than half an hour to pave the story of the heroine through her daily life. In the beginning, this was a problem that the audience might be confused. What is the point of this movie? Because despite using Kimi to order that of the heroine along with her audio editing routine. But the movie doesn’t convey much to the audience as to why Kimi is so important. Which her routine at home is exercising Look at the young man opposite the building. Invite them to have sex together because the time in the story is that the covid 19 has gone viral. There is also a detention. The movie therefore emphasizes that the heroine does not go out at all. Everything is done through the computer. Even a toothache did not go to the doctor. I consulted a psychiatrist about the symptoms that I didn’t dare to leave the house a bit. But overall, we’re just spectators watching her do her daily routine for so long that it’s secretly boring.

Kimi Review and Analysis

The story mainly tries to sell the issue of the dangers of technology. The motivation behind this is the evil of human beings that drives that bad thing to happen. Which may look interesting but the story in the movie is not as deep or detailed as this point. The clues in the story are briefly told at the beginning, with some scenes that the audience has to think and piece together. If you don’t understand, you may be confused with the ending as well, and to be honest, I’m too overblown Suitable for higher budget leather scales than this. When it’s in a low-capital scale, it doesn’t make much sense. It is considered a skeptical point of the story at the end.

As a thriller, Kimi incorporates many recurring elements in the corporate corruption thriller genre, as well as in crime thrillers. However, it is not a convoluted story, which is not a bad thing. Soderbergh shows that he doesn’t need to mess things up to make an interesting thriller. Angela’s tension is more than enough to capture the viewer’s interest throughout the film’s 89-minute running time.

Kimi HBO Max

Kimi is a film that speeds up as it progresses, just like the life of the protagonist herself. The end of it is totally frenetic, and a little crazy. We are not going to say more because we would crush it. On the other hand, the warning message about the technological world , how data is used, how “controlled” we are or can be by governments and/or private companies, is a recurring theme, but it is not unpleasant at all. To put a “but” like this, more consistent, we see that the viewer will have to take some things for granted , especially from the second half of the film. It is clear that it is part of the strategy of presenting a simple thriller, but sometimes there are explanations that, no matter how slight, must be given.

Kimi is a very interesting thriller if you like the genre. It is not excessively long and will not require you to rack your brains as if you were Colombo. A simple, diligent proposal and with a crazy and satisfying ending, although we understand that you have opted for a direct streaming premiere, with all our respect for Soderbergh.

Kimi Movie Review: The Last Words

It’s certainly a better way to spend 89 minutes than watching Sharkwater (The Requin). My brain still hurts after suffering it last Friday. A very interesting thriller that despite being quite simple, maintains the interest of the public through an intense and anguished protagonist. A cruel representation of a sadly realistic world.
