Killer Soup Series Review: The Story Plot

The title Killer Soup indicates that there will be an important part of the story or that there will be a solution because of it. It also begins with Swati Shetty (Konkona Sen Sharma) making paya soup (non-veg soup) for her businessman husband Prabhakar Shetty (Manoj Bajpayee) aka Prabhu. Prabhu calls him the killer. No one likes that soup. However, she is also learning to cook. Swati’s dream is to open her restaurant. At the same time, Prabhakar’s lookalike Umesh Mehta massages him in the gymnasium. Swati has an affair with Umesh. Prabhakar is spying on his wife. He wants to open his resort. His elder brother Arvind (Sayaji Shinde) refuses to invest money in it. The detective is killed in an accident. Meanwhile, in a dramatic incident, Prabhakar gets murdered at the hands of Umesh. Together they dispose of his dead body in the forest. Swati introduces Umesh as her husband Prabhakar.

The series starts with Swati Reddy (Konkona Sen Sharma). She serves paya soup to her husband Prabhakar Shetty (Manoj Bajpayee). While Swati is very curious about it, it is clear on Prabhakar’s face that he is not interested in drinking the soup. Seeing his reluctance, it becomes clear that something is wrong. From here the direction of this web series is decided. At the center of the story is Swati and her desire to open a restaurant. But as the story progresses, it gives a glimpse of a world of deception, lies, give-and-take relationships, and evil. The twist in the story comes when, due to certain incidents, Swati replaces her husband Prabhakar with her lover, Umesh Pillai (Manoj Bajpayee). Meanwhile, a crime has been committed and now both of them are saving themselves from an Inspector (Nassar) and Prabhakar’s criminal brother Arvind Shetty (Sayaji Shinde). The more both of them try to run away, the deeper they get stuck in the swamp.

Killer Soup Series Review and Analysis

Killer Soup‘ has all the ingredients for a great thriller. It’s the strange characters that make this beautiful, yet horrifying story thrilling in a fun way. There is also supernatural and poetry in the story. All these things together increase the excitement of this web series of Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sen Sharma. Interesting that ‘Killer Soup‘ is no suspense thriller, but the way of telling the story and its treatment is such that it keeps the entire series under a mysterious layer. Its effect is that you keep diving into it. It is the victory of director and writer Abhishek Chaubey that every scene of his series has some meaning. Whatever is seen on the screen, it is necessary somewhere. As a viewer, you should pay full attention while watching this web series, because everything ahead is connected somewhere. For example, mushrooms. Arvind tells a buyer in his drugs business – When taken by a pinch, the magic mushroom will take you to heaven and a handful will take you to hell, but taken more than that will mean, ‘pack up.’ ‘ Near the end of the web series, we see Swati’s cooking teacher Mehrunisa (Vaishali Bisht), mentioning a similar secret recipe in the form of black mushrooms for that tasteless soup.

While watching the series, sometimes you may feel that a lot is happening at once. But the good thing is that Abhishek Chaubey does not loosen his grip on the plot. He has mixed things in a very wonderful way. Konkona Sen Sharma and Manoj Bajpayee have done a great job as always. The biggest thing about his character is that they do all the immoral things, but still feel guilty for their wrongdoings. Swati is truly in love with her niece, Apeksha (Anula Navalekar) and the two capture the nuances of this relationship exceptionally well. Among the remaining characters of the series, Sayaji Shinde and Vaishali Bisht are praised. He looks so amazing on screen that you will become his fan. Nassar has also done a good job as an obsessive cop. Why watch- ‘Killer Soup‘ A dark comedy thriller full of nuances and layers that keep you engaged. Abhishek Chaubey has come up with a dish whose taste will stay with you for a long time.

Both Konkana Sen Sharma and Manoj Bajpayee have presented their characters well. Both are the center of attraction of the film. While Konkana Sen Sharma has presented her tremendous performance in Gray Shade, Manoj Bajpayee has entertained the audience by presenting a new style of acting in both the roles of lover and husband. Manoj Bajpayee is an actor who acts by getting into the character but in this film, Manoj Bajpayee has set a new example of acting. Nassar has also performed brilliantly in the role of a police inspector. He is a seasoned character actor in the South and Hindi film industry. Other sporting actors have also done a great job.

Director Abhishek Chaubey is an experienced storyteller as well as a brilliant director. He has made a name for himself through films like Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya, Udta Punjab, Sonchiriya, Ray, etc. He has beautifully presented the powerful story of this film on screen with the thrill element. The name of the film is also given very thoughtfully, which becomes apparent after watching the film. The actors have done complete justice to the characters and given their best performance. The editing of the film is also precise. The cinematography of Killer Soup is amazing. However, in this story of 45 minutes each episode, not much is shown about the characters, due to which there seems to be a lack of depth. All three languages Hindi, English, and Tamil have been used in this series. In the crime thriller series, there is nothing like a thriller, but a crime of crime will be seen. If you want to watch this web series for the beauty of South and Konkana, then definitely watch it.

This is Abhishek Chaubey’s first web series as a director. This time he has taken the story from North India to South India. The story is set in a small town near Madurai. In the first episode, blackmailing, a scam worth crores, Prabhu’s look-alike, the real Prabhu being killed, the spy taking photographs, and coming under the vicious eyes of Swati, lay the foundation of the thrill of the story. Then after the murder of the detective, bleary-eyed senior Inspector Hassan (Nassar) along with his colleague Constable Asha (Shilpa Mudbi) and the investigation Sub Inspector Thupalli (Anbuthasan), who is very excited about the case, starts working on it quickly, which adds to the excitement of the incident. However, after a while, Killer Soup falls into old patterns. The dark side undercurrent of the characters in Abhishek Chaubey’s films is visible here too.

The biggest reason to watch this series is the direction of Manoj Bajpayee, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Abhishek Chaubey. Manoj and Konkana are working together for the first time. However, Abhishek has been working with both of them on different projects. Manoj has showcased his talent in the double role of Umesh and Prabhakar. The methods that Manoj has adopted in keeping these two characters completely different from each other, reflect his experience. Konkana is no match for bringing Swati’s cunningness on screen. The weak point of the series remains the dialect of the characters. To give a touch of South, the characters of Manoj and Konkana speak Tamil in between, but then they return to their natural Hindi, due to which the taste of Killer Soup starts getting spoiled.

However, it also has some South Indian artists, who maintain the South Indian flavor. The problem is that in this black comedy show, you keep waiting for the comedy moment. Such moments rarely come in a series when they surprise the audience. The artists do their work individually, but together they are unable to create the impact that is expected from the presence of artists like Manoj and Konkana.
