Kantara Critics Review: If you look over the years, the content of Kannada movies seems to be changing here is another masterpiece Kantara released in Theaters. Rishabh Shetty, Rakshit Shetty, and Raj B Shetty from Dakshina Kannada, popularly known as RRR, are showing the great influence on Kannada cinema. It seems that the movie is being changed to some extent. Recently 777 Charlie, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana and the latest Kantara movies came from them. They are taking the desired content from people’s lives and making it universal. The recently released movie Kantara is also similar is this movie good? Kantara means mysterious forest. This is a Kannada film written and directed by Rishabh Shetty. He is also the lead actor in this film. The producer of ‘Kantara’ is Vijay Kiragandur, of Hombale Films. This is the same Hombale Films that made KGF.
Kantara Critics Review: By Taran Adarsh, Anupama Chopra, Komal Nahta
Apart from the story, direction and acting, all the small and big elements are excellent in the film. Therefore, Kantara is undoubtedly a masterpiece. Kantara can be described as a combination of the technically advanced ‘Hero’ and the artistically advanced ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana’. Arvind S Kashyap’s cinematography and B Ajneesh Loknath’s music are important elements of the film. The visuals that go deep into the audience and the background music will stay in the mind even after watching the movie. Later, when talking about the movie and recommending it to someone else, that’s what comes to mind.

Kantara is a Rishab Shetty show by all means but that doesn’t come without the support of all the key players. This is new-age storytelling in Kannada cinema that’s constantly peaking, mainly because the filmmakers are not shying away from showing their mainstream inclinations. Kantara is embedded firmly in the heartland and it utilises every bit of the local milieu to paint this vivid portrait of folklore and tradition but also the people associated with it. It’s a film intended for pure mass entertainment but made with all the heart.

Kantara’s cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap is exceptional. The framing and the lighting add value to the period film. So does Ajaneesh Loknath’s explosive music. Another major asset of Kantara is its sound design. Kantara is yet another gem of a film from Kannada cinema that will take one’s breath away in terms of storytelling and visuals.

This film has ample of highs and we are not complaining. There’s barely anything about the film that wouldn’t work for you if you get the crux of it. Though Kantara takes its time in the first few minutes to establish the setting, but once that is in place, there’s no stopping the beauty and impact that this film has. The way this movie has managed to picturise conflict when it comes to belief and ignorance, while eventually depicting how goodness is in embracing everything that exists is a definite thumbs up from me.

The wonderful frames of cinematographer Arvind S. Kashyap gel well with the highly imaginative music beats composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath. In the last 15 minutes of the movie, music plays an especially vital role as it complements Rishab’s electrifying performance. Rishab, who has also written and directed this film, narrates this conflict of ignorance and misunderstanding in a colourful and visually engrossing manner. He bases this film on the folklore of Karnataka’s Tulu Nadu region. He infuses every frame with pure visceral energy by introducing us to the wild, vibrant and youthful vigour of the lifestyle of the people of that region. The culture of Bhootaradhane adds a powerful dose of mystery and thrill and enhances the way we experience the story of Kantara.
