Kaala Paani Series Review and Analysis
The web series Kaala Paani is a survival drama. A film like ‘Mission Raniganj’ made on such subjects has recently been released on the big screen. Such stories are made extensively in foreign cinema. Sometimes someone is seen trapped in a ditch in the snowy valleys, sometimes there is a challenge to escape from the fire in a tall building and sometimes an entire city is about to lose its existence. The first challenge of a survival drama is to connect the audience with the essence of the story and then make them feel as desperate as the characters in the story are feeling to survive. Vishwapati Sarkar, Sameer Saxena, and Amit Golani are masters of comedy. TVF people are still making money by making new seasons of web series based on the characters created by them, whereas since the three of them left TVF and opened a new company, they are trying to do something different from their basic identity. A lot has been said in the story that takes place about three years ahead, just after Corona.
With good writing and tight direction, Vishwapati Sarkar, along with his colleagues from TVF days, Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani, created a story in the web series Kaala Paani, which the audience has experienced a lot just two years ago. The audience gets attached to this story also because the makers of this series have only gambled on the story. The scope of the story is vast and there are many interpolations along with it. Its writing team has very cleverly woven together all the stories from the time the virus was detected, to its infectious form, to the obstacles faced in efforts to quarantine people, to the status of people being exposed during rescue operations, to mass cremation… Seeing these scenes, the audience becomes curious about the story and also realizes that whatever we are doing, nature also keeps thinking about some consequences for us. The direction of the series is good. The cinematography is excellent. The editing is perhaps a bit lazy as some scenes like the trolley psychology are longer than necessary. On average, the seven hour-long episodes can be watched one by one over a week with some patience.
Mona, Ashu, and Amey’s amazing performances, the only famous actors in the web series Kaala Paani, and the rest of the actors are seen making a name for themselves only through their work. The return of Ashutosh Gowarikar as Lieutenant Governor serves as the foundation of the series. He is an administrator who has faith in doctors but is also surrounded by the corporate lobby. The Chief Secretary is one such officer who wants to keep himself safe in every situation. Amey Wagh’s performance as a police officer desperate to go back to Delhi is worth noting. He is a theater artiste, and his expressions show that he has the expertise to change his body language and facial expressions as per the situation. Mona Singh’s character is the catalyst of the story. And the responsibility of maintaining human sensibilities in the series has fallen on Vikas Kumar. As a father trying to convince his son, when he says, ‘Papa, people are a little untrained’, it hurts my heart. Aarushi Sharma, Chinmay Mandlekar, and Sukant Goyal have also lived up to the expectations although their characters are quite fixed.
The role of Mona Singh (Dr. Saudamini) is very small but very important to the story. Mona Singh understands this. That’s why he has played this small role very well. The interesting thing is that famous director Ashutosh Gowarikar has also acted in this web series. He has become the governor in this series. Perhaps very few people know that Ashutosh Gowarikar, who directed films like ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Swadesh’, is also a wonderful actor. Well, those who do not know will start knowing after this web series. Do you remember Amey Wagh who played the character of Rasool Shaikh in the ‘Asur’ web series? He has also done wonders in this web series. Amey Wagh has done a great job by becoming a police officer. The best acting was by Vikas Kumar.
This series has been directed by Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani. To connect the audience with the web series, they have tried to include everything in it, which will not allow you to leave it midway. Every effort has been made to make every scene exciting. The current situation has been related well to the background music. The editing is also tremendous but the time limit for the episodes of the series is very high. It could have been reduced a bit. If you are fond of watching thrill and suspense content, then you can watch Kaala Paani. The story of the series is powerful and will take you to an island where people fight a dangerous disease to save their lives. It is difficult for people to survive in this battle of survival. You will get goosebumps after seeing people crying in this horrifying scene.
However, there is also a message hidden in the story which points towards environmental protection. Overall, this is a great offering from Netflix that will remind you of Hollywood survival drama films while watching. The combination of thrill and suspense in the story will not let you get up from your seat. The series has been directed by Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani and both of them proved successful in their experiments, their direction is excellent. Talking about the background, the background music fits the circumstances, although the length of the episode is very long which is also its minus point. It would have been better if the episodes were finished in less time. If you are fond of thrill and suspense, then you should watch this series.
Kaala Paani Series Review: The Last Words
Amazingly done in direction, this web series is a complete package of thrill and suspense. Its direction and editing are also amazing. Background music has also been used very meticulously. Yes, it is a different matter that even after the end of the web series, answers to many questions are not found. But this thing is not missed while watching web series. If you like watching suspense thriller web series, then this web series is for you. Because it has a full dose of suspense, drama and thriller. However, if you do not want to see a tragedy like Corona again, then you should avoid watching this web series.
