Jeffrey Dahmer Season 2 and 3: The Series Renewed For Another Two Seasons

Netflix has renewed Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story for two more seasons. The series takes a controversial look at the life, crimes and effects of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who was played in the series by American Horror Story actor Evan Peters, with the series created by AHS creator Ryan Murphy. Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer broke all kinds of new records for Netflix and was a major fixation in pop culture, both for better and for worse.

Netflix refers to Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as a “record-breaking” TV series and the numbers seem to confirm this. According to the same streamer, the first season of the series is expected to reach the record figure of one billion hours of viewing in the coming weeks. So far, the series has amassed over 900 million viewing hours, making it one of the most-viewed English-language series ever on the streaming service.

The arrival of two more seasons of Monster was accompanied by the announcement that The Watcher Season 2, Ryan Murphy’s TV series, has also been renewed. We’re talking about another disturbing thriller series that premiered on Netflix in mid-October. In an official statement, Netflix Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria celebrated the success of both series and praised the creators’ work:

Jeffrey Dahmer Season 2 and 3: Netflix Official Statement

The audience can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher ‘. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for Monster and Eric Newman for The Watcher are masterful storytellers who have captivated audiences around the world. The strength of these two series is due to Ryan’s original and distinct voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue to tell stories in the universes of Monster and Watcher”.

As pointed out by Bajaria, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, both authors of other shows for Netflix, including Hollywood, The Politician and Ratched. The announcement of the renewal is not surprising: already in October, the streamer had announced that both Monster and The Watcher were reaching very high audience numbers. This announcement will undoubtedly rekindle all sorts of controversies. Dahmer has suffered a severe backlash for reopening the horrors of Dahmer’s crimes for the families of the victims and entire communities. Intentionally or not, it made Jeffrey Dahmer a pop culture celebrity again, inspiring everything from memorabilia sales to Halloween costumes. With the additional seasons now in order, it’s harder to argue that it was more art and catharsis than morbid profit. Hearing that multiple killers will receive the same fame boost is sure to upset many.
