Jeanne du Barry: New Photos of Johnny Depp in The Netflix Movie

Johnny Depp stars in the new images of Jeanne du Barry, the sixth feature film by French director Maïwenn. With the shooting of the film finished in a few weeks, the film is officially in post-production but the official release date is not yet known. The film should be released on Netflix during 2023, given that the streaming giant acquired the rights to the work months ago. Jeanne du Barry is loosely based on the life of Marie-Jeanne Bécu, later Countess du Barry, Louis XV’s last mistress at the court of Versailles after Madame de Pompadour.

Born into poverty, the young working-class woman will take advantage of her ease and charm to quickly climb the rungs of the social ladder, soon becoming the favorite of King Louis XV. Unaware of her courtesan status, the sovereign will fall madly in love with her, regaining the will to live. Regardless of court etiquette, Jeanne will go to live with the King in Versailles, scandalizing the other nobles and starting a series of intrigues that will influence the politics of the time.

In addition to directing the film, Maïwenn also co-wrote the screenplay with Teddy Lussi-Modeste and is also the lead character. The cast also includes Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory and India Hair. The director of photography Laurent Dailland, the set designer Angelo Zamparutti, the costume designer Yurgen Doering, the hair designer John Nollet, and the make-up artist Tom Pécheux were involved in the production. Visual artist and director Nicolas Provost will provide the sound, while the score will be composed by Stephen Warbeck. The film is produced by Why Not Production in collaboration with IN2 and France Télévisions.
