The Secret of the Greco Family: Story Plot

Mexico, in the early 1980s, The Mexican Greek family, under the facade of a traditional family nucleus, hides the soul and ambitions of the criminal clans who kidnap, torture and kill their victims if the former does not obtain the required ransom. A bloody and ruthless family that is forced to act in the shadow of the underworld when a sudden economic crisis hits their company; to regain their social status, the Greco will stop at nothing, not even the kidnapping of the best friend of Andres, the fourth son of the pater familias Aquiles Greco.

From these premises was born the television series The Secret of the Greco Family, an adaptation for the small screen of the Argentine series “Historia De Un Clan” which in turn was inspired by the misdeeds of the family that terrorized the public life of the South American nation in the 1980s. The showrunner and producer of the Netflix series, however, change the name and surname of the protagonists: Aquiles Greco, the criminal head of the family, is inspired by the truly existent figure of Arquìmedes Rafael Puccio, one of the most ruthless serial killers in the history of Argentina.

Is The Secret of the Greco Family Based On A True Story?

At first, the story of the series is based on a true story. The plot told in the series that follows the Greco family is a Netflix adaptation of the crimes committed by the Puccio family. Taking place in Mexico in the current series, the Puccio family acted, however, in Argentina. Therefore, the country produced a series called Historia de un Clan, in 2015, about the family’s cases. For O Segredo da Família Greco, however, Mexico teamed up with Argentine producers to develop the plot.

The main differences between the Netflix series and the real case, however, are few. In real history, the Puccio family consisted of seven members, the father, the mother and their five children (three men and two women). In the series, however, the family has eight members with the addition of one more child. Also, the family name and some characters have been changed. Another detail is also the difference between the professions of one of the children of the family who in real life acted as a rugby player and in the series, however, became a polo player.

Finally, the cases happen, but unlike what was shown in the series, the crimes were not committed in Mexico, but in Argentina. The family lived in a large house in San Isidro, which is a wealthy suburb of Buenos Aires. The crimes took place in the 1980s, however.
