Thus, thousands of fans around the world were able to enjoy the epic battle between Mark and Angstrom Levy, the old enemy that threatened to destroy everything our protagonist considered valuable. However, after watching the episode, perhaps you were left with some doubts about the outcome. Therefore, in this note, I present to you its ending explained. Pay attention! It is worth pointing out that, throughout season 2 of the production, we saw Mark try to rebuild his life after his father’s devastating betrayal. In that sense, in the presence of apocalyptic threats, the boy found new allies and faced his greatest fear: the possibility of becoming his father. After being presented as the best superhero comic, will Invincible manage to establish itself as the best-animated superhero series?
Bet that is played on Prime Video, where the superhero created by Robert Kirkman presents himself to a new audience in an animated version, taking inspiration from the comics saga to offer subscribers to the e-commerce giant’s streaming service another vision of the myth of the super guys, less sarcastic and allegorical than The Boys but equally fascinating. At the request of the queen of the planet, Mark returns home with his young half-brother, shocking his mother. There’s no time to settle down and meet up with friends at university before there’s already a new case: a spaceship from Mars is arriving, and the Guardians of the Globe have to figure out how to avert a possible invasion. Elsewhere, Martian Allen is about to discover new details about the mission entrusted to him some time ago…
A narrative that resumes about two months after the dramatic ending of part 1 and sees Mark still on Thraxa, busy helping out in the reconstruction after the attack of the Viltrumites. Soon, however, the time will come for our hero to return to Earth and face once again not only the consequences of his father’s decisions, not only the aftermath of his absence and how it affected the people dear to him but also a new and fearsome space threat coming from none other than Mars. It is an episode that immediately and prominently reminds us of the extraordinary strengths of this second season of Invincible: first of all, despite the general chaos that characterizes the narrative, a much more marked attention towards the psychological in-depth analysis of the protagonists, It matters little whether it’s the terrifying repercussions of Nolan’s lies or the complex sense of guilt Eve feels with every mistake she makes.

Invincible 2 Episode 8, titled ‘I Thought You Were Stronger’, we saw Mark facing off against Angstrom Levy, who is out for revenge. The truth is that, in addition to blaming Nolan’s son for his terrifying appearance, the villain has visions of alternative dimensions, where he witnesses the cruelty of the other versions of Mark, who do not hesitate to harm his loved ones. Angstrom. Thus, he sends the boy along an interdimensional journey to torture him. Debbie then confronts her son’s enemy, claiming that she raised the boy who defied his father and saved the planet: “You imply that this is the only world where Mark is good and you are the bad guy. Clear! That’s why you’re so angry. Because you turned out to be evil here and Mark is finally the hero!” she tells him confidently.
Faced with this, Angstrom Levy attacks the woman, hitting her face and breaking her arm, to the terror of little Oliver. Upon his return, Mark finds his mother attacked and bloodied, so he goes against Angstrom, traveling through various dimensions and finally beating him to death … taking a bloodbath along the way. Completely distraught by what just happened, our protagonist believes that he could be becoming a tyrant like his father. Furthermore, he realizes that he is marooned in an unknown dimension. Fortunately, it doesn’t take long for the future version of the Earth Guardians from his dimension to save him and send him home.
They warn him that it took them 20 years to find him – during which time he was missing – and, if that were not enough, they reveal that their planet could not recover in his absence… but they did not want to say more to avoid altering the time flow.
However, before Mark leaves, future Eve stops him and confesses her feelings: “I love you, Mark. For a long time now. I was devastated when you disappeared. I should… I should have told you (…) Tell her you love her (referring to the past version of her). Or tell her you don’t love her. But tell him something. Tell her something, so she can continue with her life,” he says with emotion.
The ending of Invincible 2 sees the entry of General Kreg, a Viltrumvite commander who intervenes after the Graysons clash with Thraxa. His arrival coincides with an ultimatum to Mark, namely, to convince the Earthlings to accept the law of the Viltrum Empire or succumb to extermination. Making this threat even more odious is Nolan’s capture as a traitor to the empire. Back on Earth, Mark remembers that before being captured by Kregg his father begged him to read his books, written as a cover during his life as an infiltrator among the Earthlings. For readers of the comic, this is an essential step, while viewers of the series will soon discover how much these literary adventures can help Mark in the future. Equally important in the future of Invincible will be the plans of the crazy Angstrom Levy, a character who appeared in the first episode and who, in this narrative arc of the animated series, seems to be the figure most faithful to the paper original in terms of development within the continuity.
The Fight with Angstrom Levy?
After a mission in space, Mark returns home to find Angstrom Levy holding his mother, Debbie, and newborn brother, Oliver, hostage. Levy’s past experiences with Invincible, combined with those of his alternate versions of the Multiverse, convince him that there is no reality in which Invincible is not a danger. To stop him, Angstrom attempted to create a network between all his versions of the multiverse, with an experiment that failed, causing these hundreds of minds to merge into a single body, giving life to Angstrom Alpha. What motivates Angstrom’s ideas are the experiences lived by his variants, who come from universes in which Mark inherited control of the Earth from Omni-Man, following Viltrumvite’s dictates. In all these realities, Angstrom attempts to stop Invincible but fails in his attempt.
Despite having enhanced his body and with the powers obtained through the integration of the dozens of minds of his other variants, Mark is still very strong. During the battle, Invincible bitterly fights Angstrom, convinced that he is stronger and also moved by concern for his loved ones, killing his opponent and remaining traumatized. Mark is in disbelief that he lost control like this and killed his enemy, but a version of the Guardians of the Globe appears and helps Mark return to his reality after the murder. There, Mark’s depression kicks in after seeing how Angstrom broke Debbie’s arm and inflicted tremendous physical and mental damage when he wasn’t there.
The Search for a New Balance?
The Viltrumvite threat to Earth and the difficulty of reconciling his role as a superhero and his private life lead Mark to reevaluate his priorities, leading him to develop the conviction of leaving college to better prepare for the imminent war. In this, Mark is forced to collaborate more closely with Cecil, also to improve himself as a fighter, despite the reticence of her mother, who does not understand how seeing her helplessness in the hands of Angstrom has profoundly upset her son. The real obstacle for Mark is accepting that sometimes it is necessary to commit extreme actions to stop enemies, a difficulty that the hero inherits from the first season.
Cecil arrives to support him, trying to explain how being a superhero also means making difficult decisions. However, Mark thinks that if he crosses these ethical lines, he could become like Omni-Man, although Cecil rejects that idea. Yet Invincible is torn by that lingering darkness within himself and whether he can control his anger. This vision of Cecil gives the Machiavellian character a human side. Usually, it’s all about exploiting Mark and using tokens in his battles. Even though he is responsible for planetary security, Cecil seems like a father figure. He knows that Mark’s body can heal, but he can see that the teenager’s mind is fragile as he tries to thwart his Viltrumite destiny.
The Relationship with Atom Eve?
As Mark tries to find a breather by isolating himself in flight, he is joined by Atom Eve, who hugs him and lets him know that he is not alone. The other Guardians are also at his side ready to support him, because they consider Mark more than a colleague. During their meeting, they rest on a bridge and at this moment their hands almost touch each other. A romance develops, although Mark rejects it, which has to do with the fact that the Guardians sent him back. While that group of heroes from the other universe remained silent about many things to preserve the integrity of the time stream, the older Eve let Mark know that she loved him, and in their reality, they were in love. A revelation puts the boy in crisis, who wonders whether Eve could be more than a friend in her life too, especially after her breakup with Amber. They share so much in common and are trying to shape their destiny, yet Mark doesn’t kiss her. Contrary to the comics, it is a good choice, as Mark’s emotional aspect is enhanced more, not rushing their love but letting it consolidate.
What Happened to the Other Characters?
It turns out that Immortal discovers that the original Kate is alive and hidden, so he reunites with her, and they seem happy to be together. On the other hand, Amanda and Rudy talk about their relationship, setting up a new date between them. And, as if there weren’t enough problems, a pair of archaeologists find the tomb of Ka-Hor, who had appeared briefly in the first season of “Invincible“. Allen, for his part, is sent to the Viltrumite prison where Nolan Grayson is and proposes to Omni-Man to join his fight since he believes that they are now on the same side since he rebelled against the Viltrumite empire.
Mark‘s father then reveals his guilt for his actions and admits that he misses his wife.
“I am no longer a Viltrumite. It’s the truth. I am ashamed and regret my actions. I see the suffering of the defenseless. It bothers me. Very much (…) What I did on Earth… The pain and destruction I caused was incalculable. What I did to people… What I did to my son (…) I deserve to die. Still… I think I miss my wife”, she points out in the last lines of dialogue of the episode.
